Super 8 (2011)

JJ Abrahams knows how to bring my 'Spielberg' childhood back with this movie. It's basically one big hommage to many of the films that Spielberg was involved with from the mid 70's to the mid 80's. From Close Encounters to E.T. From Jaws to the Goonies.

8.5/10

Yeah I loved this film. Definitely has that magic touch. Will have to watch it again now:)

I actually prefer Alien3 over Aliens. Where Alien3 is under rated I think Aliens is over rated ;)

Friday the 13th part 7 The New Blood. Oh. Some actually quite good acting and done characters you nearly care about. And then telekinesis. Inspired by (ripped off from) Carrie? Jason turns up in all sorts of random places with bizarre selections of tools. Scrapes a 2/5.

Could be. Funny enough, Nightmare on Elmstreet 4, which got released in the same year as Friday 7 (1988 ) got a, more or less, similair storyline. With the telekinese stuff.

So... next up: Friday 8!:twisted::twisted:

Yeah can't wait lol. That might be the final straw.

Haven't seen 3.

4 is an inferior remake of 1.

5 was surprisingly good I really enjoyed it.

6 is patchy and the whole cult thing gets out of hand.

H20 is awesome love that film. One of the best 80s horror follow ups ever.

Resurrection is a shambles. Well the bit with Jamie Lee Curtis is fine. But the rest sucks.

Haven't seen the Rob Zombie ones but would love to at some point.

Saw them.

They are typical RZ movies and basically have nothing to do with Halloween. The reboots are a complete different genre.

That said, I didn't like them at all. From the rape scene in 1 to the dream sequences in 2 it was all so unnecessary.

I am very happy John Carpenter is involved in the new upcoming reboot because the RZ films almost destroyd the Halloween franchise.

Well they wanted 2 to continue where the original ended. But Jamie Lee Curtis had her hair cut for another movie she did and had to use this cheap wig. It is one of the reasons she wasn't too much inolved in the movie.

3 is a complete different movie. Nothing to do with Michael Myers. But a great 80's horror story. I urge you to give it a chance.

As a canon I think either 1,2 and 4 work great. Or 1, 2 and H20.

I actually enjoyed 4 and found 5 okay for most parts.

6 is chaotic. Even the producer's cut is. And I dislike that one.

H20 was okay. Great opening maybe a bit too Scream-ish for me.

Ressurection was, as you say, shameless. The opening for that movie was actually shot during H20. Producers didn't want the franchise to end and demanded this sequence for a possible follow-up.

By the way I think the unsung hero is Donald Pleasance, who is an excellent presence and almost as mad as Michael Myers.

Phantoms (1998 )

Ben Affleck in a Dean Koontz story. Very decent first 45 minutes. Then it goes a bit downhill. Liv Schreiber is superb as the deputy.

6.5/10

Friday the 13th part 8. Jason takes Manhattan.

Dreadful.

Not sure I'm going to make it to the end of this one. Pointless New York intro. Semi intriguing set up on a boat. All characters deeply irritating so that you hope they die more quickly than they actually do. Pointless rock chick. Jason able to get to places in 1/3 time of everyone else despite travelling at 1/2 the speed. Haven't even made it to Manhattan yet.

Well out of sheer bloody mindedness I kept going right until the end. Still dreadful.

1/5.

Not sure whether to carry on to part 9 or not. Does it get any better?

Personally I like Jason goes to hell. Complete different movie from the rest. It got quite some heat but I had fun watching it.

In your rating I probbably give it 3/5

My rating 5.5/10

Don't Breathe (2016)

Decent enough thriller. Good acting. My only problem was that I had no sympaty for any of the characters.

6.5/10

Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)

Actually an underrated movie that got a lot of heat because there is no Michael Myers in it. Still a superb 80's horror flick with a certain John Carpenter feel to it (Carpenter wrote the score and was also an uncredited co-writer)

6.5/10

Adje 28 Oct 2016 02:07

Deep Rising (1998 )

One of my biggest Guilty Pleasures. Monsters on a cruise ship. I wish they made the Island sequel :(

8.5/10

Friday the 13th 1 to 10

Except for 8 (Jason in Manhattan) a movie that is in a league of it's own when it comes to horrible movies I found 3, 5, 6 and 7 laughable bad. The first one was okay, I still found the last 20 minutes of 2 the best of the entire series. 9 was different and I would rate it the same as part 1 (some Jason fans will curse me now). Jason X (Jason in space) was as laughable as the others but I have a weak spot for bad SciFi movies.

In the end (It had been ages since I watched them) I was surprised how bad this series actually is. No story line, no character development, no scares. Basically it is what 'Final Destination' is. The same story every time only the kills will change. Overall the series get a rating of 3/10

To put them in a list of bad to worse:

1: part 2
2: part 4
3: part 1
4: part 9
5: part 10
6: part 7
7: part 6
8: part 3
9: part 5
and the absolute worst... drumroll... 8

Adje 29 Oct 2016 02:17

To put the above post in perspective. I also watched the Halloween movies entirely. If I ranked the two franchises into one list it would look like this:

(F = Friday 13th, H = Halloween)

1: H 1
2: H 2
3: H 4
4: H20 (H 7)

5: F 2
6: F 4
7: F 1
8: H 5
9: F 9
10: H 8
11: F 10
12: H 6
13: F 7
14: F 6
15: F 3
16: F 5
17: F 8

I didn't put Halloween 3 in the list as it's a complete different movie (would have ended in place 7, just above Friday 1) and I need to watch the Nightmare on Elmstreet movies again to see where they end in this franchise list :-)
