31 (2006)

A few things I learned.

Rob Zombie has not evolved as a director. He isn't able to do anything else but the same thing. I am not familiar with his music but as a director he is terrible.

Create a scary enviroment for a terrifying cat and mouse game, then have a terrible director film it and you get the most boring gore movie of all time.

Zombie manages to create a movie with not a single interesting character. You don't care if the next person you see is a victim or a killer, if they get killed or escape, if the killing is bloody gore scene or happens off screen. This movie is so terribly directed you don't care at all.

In the end this was a complete waste of 100 minutes.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)

Very well made movie.

7,5/10

Blair Witch (2016)

Bleh. Never liked the original movie from 1999. Terrible movie that got it's hype from the (very clever) marketing.

This is basically the same crap. Never scary, never intense, never interesting. The cast is so bad you forget about them the minute they are out of frame. I am pretty sure this franchise is dead (either way, it is for me).

Didn't really feel like watching the movie but, well I am married. It doesn't matter what I feel like

I have to admit that I enjoyed the movie. Hanks is performing as well as we know he can.

7/10

I'm tossing up whether to watch this... I feel my knowledge of Airbus will get in the way. It's a good story but it's no where near as impressive as the RAF Nimrod ditching.

This movie is not really about the emergency landing.:-)

Singing In The Rain

Absolutely superb film. Full of energy, full of humour, an interesting story about when talkies came in, superbly played by the 3 main leads. I was surprised how much I liked it.

No reason not to give it a very positive 5/5

Fun fact: Production took longer because the producers wanted Debbie Reynolds. Unfortunately she couldn't dance. So Gene Kelly had to teach her.

Sherlock Holmes ; The lying detective (2016)

I know, I'm behind but my wife demands to watch those with me and, well she prefers soap series over Sherlock :roll:

Anyway, it's almost as if they are trying to hard with this season. Some of the stuff seem very far fetched and it all feels a bit forced. Don't know but for me the least favorite season. This episode, slightly better than the Tatcher one. I hope the ending is good. This show deserves a great ending...

Sherlock - The Final problem

Best of the set. Good ending of the series (assuming Benedict will be too busy to do more Sherlock episodes)

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016)

Standard action thriller. The first one was better. Not bad, not good.

I watched it on my KODI-tv box

Don't know why Tom Cruise bothers making action movies beyond the Mission Impossible series. He's been great in the last several MI movies. They're great fun, just like James Bond mostly.

Arrival (2016)

Good movie but not the movie I hoped for. So I think my rating isn't as objective as I want it to be. Too much drama for me when I didn't feel like watching a drama.

Max Steel (2016)

Utter crap

The Mechanic 2 (2016)

I used to like Jason Statham movies but this, as most of his recent movies, was just meh.

The Hobbit trilogy

I did start the first one just after it came out and coudn't bare to sit through it. Thanks to the fast forward option I have now seen all three of them. Peter Jackson managed to make this even more boring than the last two LotR movies. And the sfx, especially the blue screen ones, are as terrible as the LotR ones (which had actually a lot of very poor blue screen effects).

After two towers, return of the King, Kong and this poor trilogy, Peter Jackson is no longer a director of interest to me. (I bet that keeps him awake at night  )

Anyway the entire Hobbit stuff 2,5/10

Adje 23 Jan 2017 04:20

Batman (1989)

Just like Richard Donner's Superman from 1978, I don't think anyone wil ever come close to Tim Burton's Batman movie(s). Jack Nicholson and Michael Keaton were perfectly cast as well. So was Danny DeVito for the sequel.

I think that only Heath Ledger deserves to be in that list (although I prefer Jack's Joker).

Anyway 8,5/10

In a Valley of Violence (2016)

It offers a smartly conceived homage to classic Westerns that transcends pastiche with absurdist humor and a good cast. Solid performances from Ethan Hawke and John Travolta.

I really fancy watching this. I'm a big fan of John Travolta. When he is good he is outstanding.

I just found out that she was only 19 years old at the time. One of my very favorite movies. :D

It sounds similar to Dirty Dancing; I read that they went with Jennifer Grey as opposed to a professional dancer, because they thought her inexperience would be more believable (I think they were right). So, Patrick Swayze literally was teaching her to dance during filming.

Another fun fact: the movie depicts Kathy (Debbie Reynolds) supplying the voice for Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen) on the song "I Would", but it's actually Hagen's own voice that you hear.

Dead Rising: Watchtower (2015)
Dead Rising: Endgame (2016)

2 follow-up zombie movies. Nothing special. Both are equally good/bad

4,5/10

Doctor Strange. Apart from a rather clunky American accent from the lead (as far as I'm concerned he'll always be Sherlock lol) I must say I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Really entertaining 👍🏻
