Everything was said. It's my CHSIB favorite song equal to another one...

10/10 on the album
9/10 among others Meat's songs
11/10 live!

This is really bugging me, but there's a line in the DIST backing vocals where I can't understand the words.

Meat sings "did I say that" and the backing vocals sing "this time I ......blah blah blah".

Does anyone know what they're actually singing?

Bart 21 Jan 2004 15:44

read the lyric sheet! :D

Did I say that?
This time I'm not letting go
Did I say that?
This time I'll have and I'll hold
Did I tell you that I loved you cause it
Would have been a matter of fact?
Did I say that?
This time I'm walking through fire
Did I say that?
This time I'll feed your desire
Did I say that?
This time I'll stand by your side
Did I say that?
This time I will be your pride
Did I say that?
This time I'm not letting go
Did I say that?
This time I'll have and I'll hold
Did I say that?
This time I'm walking through fire
Did I say that?
And I wish that I could take it all back

Ooh thanks Bart. I didn't think the backing vocals would be included in the lyric sheet so I didn't look.

I'll be able to sing along now on 30th Jan. :D

This is one my favourite Meat Loaf songs. It sums up his style perfectly. The live version is unbelievable.

AndrewG 21 Jan 2004 20:32

It would have been nice to see Michael Bay direct some kind of amazing video for the song. This could have been the last part of the triogy:
"Anything for Love" - "I'd Lie for You" - "Did I Say That". I think the exisiting one is good but I believe the song has so much more potential and power that more time and effort could have been spent on the video. It would have been nice to see Meat riding into sunset with Dana Patrick again.

It's a great song! I love the lyrics!

My score: 9

I prefer slow, tender ballads to fast, hard rocking tracks, so this is my favorite song from the album. Absolutely terrific. 999999/10

Iīve noticed something:
IMO this is the only Meat song, where the single edit is nearly as good as the album version.
If you look at booh or afl some very(!) important parts are missing on the single edits, but here itīs well done.

Great song...people with quick temper surely do appreciate the lyrics and the changes in tempo...haha

9/10

I think this is a great song - Meat's best non-Steinman song. Although I heard people refer to James Michael as a Steinman imitator I think that's unfair. Naturally all of Meat's non-Steinman songs are compared to his Steinman stuff, but I think this is a brilliant song on its own merits.

Great lyrics, great production; love the up-tempo section of the song.

"The truth is hard to swallow when you're choking on your pride" is one of my favourite ever lyrics.

I dont think that the way the song is written is a try to compare with Jim, he just tried to write something in the typical Meat Loaf style, and naturally, that IS Jim Steinman.

Btw, when I heard this the first times, I always heard:
"The truth is hard to swallow when you're choking on your bride"
:lmao:

Caelan 21 Jun 2006 18:20

love the lyrics 9-10

Hhahahaha...please don't do that...

10/10 - love the emotion at the beginning of the song

RadioMaster 09 Jul 2006 11:09

I like the part:

"I wanna take you in the backseat now and slowly drive you home"

Ross 13 Jul 2006 14:19

My favorite non Jim song of Meat's.

I love the piano/cello in the bit before all the DIST's.

9.5/10

Evil One 23 Jan 2007 23:16

7. I really like this song. It's a shame that the production sounds 'cheap'

JanT 23 Jan 2007 23:17

I like this one too :)
