Goodness, how heated has this become!!

I imagine it probably will go to number 1 purely because it's Westlife, they could sing nursery rhymes and they'd go to number 1, which is a great shame.

But hey, they're a band who are at the minute doing a range of cover versions, they've been given a song, it's going to get them a hellof a lot of publicity and even more cash - can't blame the boys really

As I say, not brilliant, but under the circumstances, not bad for a first ever shot at singing it.

From the viscousness of some comments, you'd imagine someone said something bad about a Meat Loaf song (the horror!)

In fact, I'm appalled by the utter ridiculousness of some of the comments. If you don't like a cover of song, fine. You don't have to listen to it anymore, and just move on!
Repeatedly calling the performers of said cover various names (f*cking assholes, for example) is just plain silly and wrong. Especially by a moderator.

Could we get another mod in here to give some people a chill pill?

AndyK 26 Jan 2007 21:09

It's already been done ... consider the thread brought back on topic. :))

Sapphire Lady 26 Jan 2007 21:19

Goodness what a great thread I've started here :))

I didn't think the Westlife version was too horrific (although I did cringe at the end part). There's obviously a market for this type of stuff - people will like it and people will buy it.

I'm just away to e-mail Gary Barlow and suggest Take That do You Took The Words

WTF? :wtf:

Jesus tapdancing Christ, Jim Steinman working with shitelife.

Someone tell me i'd had my drink spiked and this is just a real bad trip.

Thank God the Tanz intro was spared.

I'd NEVER have forgiven him for putting that on a westknobjockeys record.

Talk about a sell out

Well, he was involved with Boyzone 10 years back.

Still, at least he chose not to be involved with Bat III - that would have really tarnished his legacy.

Did I say that?

djfierce 26 Jan 2007 22:00

hmm so we cant have an opinion on any songs but meat's? interesting

i think the fact Steinman was/wasnt/could've been involved in this has clouded some peoples objective judgment skills

and it is more than just this song..they have done it quite alot which implies money making gimmick, can we not have an opinion on that either?

AndyK 26 Jan 2007 22:05

Don't think anyones said you can't have an opinion ... it's more a question of how that opinion is voiced that was the issue!

djfierce 26 Jan 2007 22:08

maybe i misread a certain post then..if so i apologise ;) disregard the first part of my post

but i stand by the rest :))

A bit like IACBTMN then on Bat3 ;)

Although Westlife's version isn't the best by far, it certainly isn't the worse. I can't get my head around this song being sung just by the lads and no lasses, one could argue that it is though :lmao:

What were you doing with Westlife in your mouth?

Pud

wizardofodd 26 Jan 2007 23:31

not as criminal as re-doing "i have a dream" but still not good. never mind some boy band would have to remake it at some point.
Bonnie performed total eclipse on This Morning yesturday live. maybe this is to remind the public audience she did it origionaly.

Pudding 26 Jan 2007 23:40

Yep, I Have A Dream was painful.

Isn't it coming out re-mixed or something? I hear it a lot on the radio now...not such a great version...but still Bonnie...

AndyK 27 Jan 2007 00:37

Bonnie re-re-re-release of TEOTH is a collaboration with Baby Pink Star.

christa 29 Jan 2007 23:51

Well I've seen Westlife 5 times in concert and do you know what? they are actually quite entertaining and fun. Each to their own eh? And I wouldn't mind 10 minutes alone with that Shane! Corrrrrrrrrrr

I quite agree Christa! The concert we saw was very well done - they had a 'glass' stage that come down over the front half of the audience so that those at the back got a better view for part of the concert.

djfierce 30 Jan 2007 14:17

i'm sorry but they're full of gimmicks and other peoples music

Betty 30 Jan 2007 14:34

Iīve just heard the song performed by them for the first time...
And I have to admit that I donīt like it.
That has nothing to do with the band itself, because I like some songs of them.

Itīs just, you canīt cover THAT song... It just wonīt work in my opinion.
I love the song performed by Bonnie Tyler, itīs so unbelievably great!!!

I wouldnīt say theyīve destroyed the song, but it just doesnīt touch me at all!!!

Monstro 30 Jan 2007 15:02

Guess I really should make the effort to listen to this
