The first one...New Orleans

Not a matter of an accent...proper name of the city...

MeatGrl1 23 Aug 2008 21:17

Hopefully I'll get this application right on the third attempt   !!

Looking forward to the play tonight, got some good people in it, hopefully I can add some more signatures to my collection .

Sadly Gran isn't feeling too good again :(, hope she feels better soon.

But now I need to go and start getting ready and I'm listening to the soundtrack to Mamma Mia, it's fab !! And confirmation it is Benny in the movie , he's credited as keyboards so I'm really thrilled and happy :cheer:.
Morrison's is great in the music stakes, also got another Meat album... Songs I already have but that's beside the point  !!

thought so too, but watched some movie (cant remember which one) where they referred to it as New Orleans all the time.......actually it sounded more like New Orlins...
but Zina you should be right.....Jeanne D'arc after all is still known as the Maid of Orleans, not the Maid of Orlins.

The french pronounciation sounds much more poetic anyway.

SamCat 23 Aug 2008 21:55

It sometimes sounds probably different...but I believe French is proper...

Bought the clock :cheer: gave in, so another new thing for the house i haven't even completed on yet. but the clock was calling to me and I love it. it's a new clock, but designed to look old, so it looks like the enamel is cracked / chipped and the edges rusty. well i adore it anyway.

And to make up for that, i went in a cheapy homewear store and bought £18.50 worth of citronella-ey candels in cute tin buckets, and some tealights (all for the 'garden'/back yard), for £2.76 thanks to a superduper sale. Didn't realise the discount was quite so big though, so I might be drawn back tomorrow!! Haha!

 My brother used to work for a firm that kit pubs out with furniture.

Some pubs (theme pubs in particular) liked to go with the "distressed" look, which involved John and his workmates kicking hell out of it, hitting it with hammers and whipping it with heavy chain.

And that kind of treatment made the tables and stools go UP in value :wtf:

It's okay if you stick to tins, packets, cleaning products, etc... I don't tend to buy meat or fresh fruit and veg on the internet - I've seen them picking the orders when I go to the supermarket, and I know how they treat them! At least the other stuff can't get too badly damaged, and it saves me ages doing it that way, since I'm feeding (usually) four adults and two children every day, and my shopping takes about an hour and a half every week, and costs around £160 a week.... This way as well I know what it's costing me, and there isn't the temptation to impulse buy 'cos nothing looks terribly appetising when it's written down!

RadioMaster 25 Aug 2008 19:00

how about the price? is online shopping more expensive than the old fashioned way?
and how long does it take them to deliver?

The prices are the same as going to the supermarket, but there's a delivery charge, about £5, you arrange the day and time when you place the order. The later you leave it to the day you want it delivered, the more the charge is. It's usually delivered within a 2 hour window, anywhere up until about 10pm, so handy if you're working. It comes in a refridgerated van, so all your chilled stuff is still chilled when it gets to you, your frozen stuff is still frozen, and best of all, you don't have to carry it! Since we normally have to buy at least ten x two litre bottles of soft drink, that's a distinct advantage for me!
