long live the loaf!!
|
and long shall live the steinman as well!
|
I'm in agreement with those who thought Meat was great, but not so enthusiastic about the female singer. However, I did think it was a very clever (and different) arrangement. If the woman's microphone had been turned down a little, I think it would have sounded better.

Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman great on their own. But as a pair, is how they got my attention. They are two men who will stand the test of time. That's right, they are prime and will always have a place on top of the world shining behind them the light of heaven, or hell

I really loved the operatic spin on the song ... it was different and exciting at the same time. Meat, you looked and sounded amazing. Bravo !! |

Meat sounded absolutely fantastic, I mean he killed it, he killed it, he killed it!! Loved the unique arrangement of the song as well, just when you thought you had heard every version of Bat Out of Hell, Meat gives us this. |

just watched it again!! and meat knows he nailed it:D
there was a sparkle in hes eyes, hard to put a finger on it? but it was like a big come back for him? something? anyway it was great thanks for the link |

But don't worry, someone also posted it on YouTube. Thanks again to wizardofodd for posting this link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dW73lYgM3uo Vicki |

I loved how he hugged the woman who sang with him and then stood there with that sparkle in his eye and beautiful big grin on his face. It was great to see ! |
Ok thanks to everyone who posted their reviews prior to those of us being able to upload it in a timely manner (namely me). I couldn't wait until I was able to see it. And thank you for everyones links. Eventually I got one to come through. And I've watched it twice....and I don't know where to start.
I loved the slowed down version because I was able to appreciate every single sound Meat made. He nailed it, he knows he nailed it, and I soaked that up like a sponge. He looks fantastic and polished. Wardrobe: pretty dope with the rock applique accents and "bling bling" (jewlery). I would love to get a close up shot of the back of his stage coat. Looks awesome. And Meat's voice....OMG the voice: My heart jumped, it really did. To para-quote if you will: EFFING' YES!!!!! As far as the leading lady Juliet, I only found one part where I was like "what" but I sure can't do what she does or did so I have 0 to say about her. For certain, Meat was super pleased at the end of it, high fives all the way around. Alan was even funny at the end of it saying something about people trying to go to sleep. Yeah, Meat celebrate after that one and while your at it, I think you just told those "rags" a big ole' "I told you so"! Stupendous job, Suzieq |

I liked seeing his generosity and graciousness, always a Meat hallmark, as he made a point of thanking and seeking the audience's recognition for each group of musicians who backed the performance. Yes, a special performance, a special night :) Caryl |

Well all i gotta say is thank God he doesn't have to sing with her every night...lol...but other than that...i have to admit Meat your sounding not to shabby...WTG....
|
Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic. If that is his form I can't wait for the new album. It's gonna be awesome.
|
Just saw the performance.....Best live performance of Meat's in a long time. Exciting times ahead! The voice was there :-)
|
You sure DID rock!!!!!
Meat, tonight was a triumph!!! and Juliette was wonderful! She understood the song, and she sang with you; I can't help but flash back to a few years ago when a young woman on AI sang, not with you, but to a mirror in her own mind... Please tell Juliette how much we enjoyed her performance! ...and you, Meat, you rule.. You absolutely RULE.
All my love, Kathy |

I don't normally watch shows like Popstar to Operastar but when I heard that Meat Loaf would be performing Bat Out Of Hell I decided that it was definately something I'd have to watch.
It was well worth watching, the performance was fabulous and Meat sounded great. |
After just having seen the clip, while keeping in mind that I don't like opera at all, Bat just isn't a duet and I think all the bling has to go: that was not bad at all. I'd love to see do Meat a full show with this, ehm, orchestra and similar arrangements.
|
Well done Meat, The performance was great and your voice was on top form. I loved the way it came together in a different style. Meat are you planning to appear on anymore TV shows after Popstar to Operastar?

That was very very good!! Loved it :)

Just watched it again and though I can see/hear it not being to everyone's taste I must say I really, really, REALLY like it. And here was me thinking they would just be using a tape or so, god that was a surprise arrangement/idea. Think Meat did really well and it looked like it went down a storm in the studio with everyone standing and even the judges showing huge approval. Awesome vocals. Fab!
Good time to still be a fan. |
good performance, the voice is getting there.. stilll not going to see him live. but well done
|
It was a really good performance i cant wait to see him live again i dont know if it was just me but i could here the opera singers voice over meats.

Let me chime in here...
First off, I am very thankful for the wonderful people who have uploaded this performance to YouTube and even more thankful for Meat Loaf's management team for not having it yanked from it. I believe this is the perfect launch for Meat Loaf's upcoming project - Hang Cool, Teddy Bear 4. I am so excited to see the new direction Meat Loaf is taking. Comments have been made about Meat Loaf being "crazy" lately...hell yeah he has been crazy lately. It is nice to see the off the chain and over the top Meat Loaf back in good form. It seems like we have not seen him this charasmatic since things started going back with the distribution of the album Couldn't Have Said It Better. I really do think that CHSIB was an exceptional album and Meat seemed to take it very personally when things were not going well with the record company and the ticket scams and rackets associated with it. Watching Meat Loaf during the promo of Bat Out Of Hell 3 was extremely painful to me. To me, it felt that Meat Loaf was being lead through the promo and decisions were being made by the record company - not himself. I know and love the character Meat Loaf, could see Mr. Aday putting on the act in public, but the heart and passion simply was not there. After all of the Bat 3 hype was over and now there is a project that Meat Loaf is working on that is "his" I can see the passion is back in his form. I believe that once again Marvin has completely transformed back into Meat Loaf and I love it! The performance of the song was exceptional! I loved the new arrangement. Yes, the Bat out Of Hell purists would find fault with it, but for what it is...the performance was brilliant. This worked far better than the version that was on the MSO DVD/CD. It was nice to see a totally re-worked version of the song that actualy placed the song into the format of the project it was part of. Yes, the chicka singing along with Meat was a bit much, but that is part of the format of the show - it is what it is. Bravo Meat! You did good! Dave |
I loved it I thought Meat sounded really good as ever but the thing that really struck me was he seems to have found the raw power in his voice again that he lost for a while.
I did think he struggled slightly but only with keeping the tempo down as well as reigning in the rock god that resides within. It really warmed my heart on the few albeit brief occasions when the Meat I love so much sneaked out and reassured us he was still there. As if I needed any reasurrance after seeing Meat so happy in his tweets that HCTB will showcase Meat at his very best his performance and the few seconds of Losangeloser we hear on the updated version of Behind the music have done that and so much more. |

honestly speaking, that was the first time in quite a few years that I was actually astonished by the power of his voice, especially towards the end of the performance. That is the Meat Loaf I became fan of!!
|
Absolutely fantastic performancs. I really enjoyed it, I've always wanted to hear BOOH opera style anyway and I wasn't disappointed and so thank you Meat and Juliet. Luv cx

It was a very good performance, although I'm usually not very fond of shortened versions of the song. I was a little confused by the lady at first but that wasn't her fault. When listening to it for the first time, that duet appeared rather funny to me and I felt as if her style of singing did not match the song - but maybe it's just that strange mix that made me like it after listening to it several times. I think it's one of the most interesting versions of that song. Meat's voice was amazing, it sounded growling at times and changed to Pavarotti style the very next moment. |

Any link (besides the "Hollywood" street sign in the video)? |
considering the partial tracklist and the lyrics in that clip it's more likely a snippet of "if it rains"
|
You can hear a few seconds of Los Angeloser in that clip, too, but it's just music, you don't hear him sing.

More relevantly to me, Meat has three broad styles; smart-but-comfortable-casual with colour, scrubs-up-well DJ black with a touch of sparkle, and performance-make-an-impact (but can be left with the wardrobe mistress) stage clothes, whether it's in concert or TV appearance .. and always he looks good because he chooses the appropriate style for the situation, and knows what styles work for him. His can wear those double-breasted, forties style suits and fedoras and look stunning, and the promo shots for CHSIB were superb! No-one understands stagecraft and performance better than Meat, and I think the look, and the bling, was spot on .. he's also got a perfect sense of what will work for him and make a performance stand out. But you can't leave acquired piercings behind when you leave the stage and slip back into your real life, and I'd put the smart money on Meat being happy to stay with the ones God gave him ;).. He also doesn't show a lot of skin on stage ;).. so even temporary tattoos would have limited impact! Caryl |
popstar to operastar peaked at 4.4m on friday night!! up from 3.76m last week!! did a certain performance, by a certain performer lift the viewing figures? me thinks so:D

I also dug the bling & jacket. I like that Meat's current attire suits the way he looks now (i.e. shorter hair, slimmer, older gent) but still has hints of classic Loaf about it.
I thought that the velvet black jacket with the Bat's from the B3 promotion really was the sh*t. I want one! |
The green jacket is in my next life with plaid pants.
