Thanks, R.!!

I don't mind the correction at all! As you know, I'm not a person who's been able to travel much!

I'll make the change to the original post. This is what I had printed on my recording of it!!

In german it's Köln. There's your 'K'. 8)

And now ... back on topic, please

Sapphire Lady 22 Oct 2003 22:36

I think it's a very sad state of affairs that Meat felt the need to start this "Half Hearted" thread.

We all have a choice - to buy tickets for his shows or not to buy tickets for his shows. Those who aren't happy with whatever aspect of the show quite simply shouldn't buy any tickets. Surely the fact that most of the tour is sold out speaks for itself.

And at the end of the day, why do we all go to Meat's shows? Surely it's not to look for perfection in every note and different songs every night?

I am going to 3 of the shows and I am going because I want to have a good night out and be able to sing and dance along to the music I love. And there is no doubt in my mind that I'm going to have a great time. :D

i bet the conversation will be running wild at your M+G winston?

Winston 22 Oct 2003 23:32

Well from threatning to get me thrown out at the concert to saying he would like to meet me, then yes the conversation would be very interesting. I would have far more interesting things to talk to Meat about than set lists etc. Bottom line is I am a fan of his and his music, my opinion of the set list got me into trouble. That's my problem no one elses. I will not apolgise for making the statement I did.

ChrisBelfast 23 Oct 2003 00:06

im sure it was a joking tone he used when he threatened to get you thrown out. Everyone's entitled to their opinion i guess

Winston 23 Oct 2003 00:11

Except me of course. My opinion on a repetitive set list is aparently all lies, when it's there in black in white for all to read, except the changing of 1 or 2 songs. Joking? He has a way with words Meat does, every second word was an expletive, so obviously it's the only way he canexpress himself when he's angry. I did not take it as a joke or any of the stuff he said to me. As unpopular as I am on this board, I would never speak to ANYONE the way he went on at me.

BostonCPA 23 Oct 2003 01:48

Your Great Meat!!

Meat your great at what you do and don't ever let them get you down.
I moved to the US from Denmark when I was 10. My very first concert here in the states was you. I was 11 and I am now 30 and I still love to see you up there giving it your heart and soul. I saw you in Boston on Sept 24th next to the woman that showed you her boobs. I thought the show was great and I loved the small intimate setting.
If I ever got the chance to see you again, I couldn't be happier.

P.S If you ever need a tax girl, just call.

badger 23 Oct 2003 03:04

Oh dear.

Unfortunately I have not been around on the boards as much as i would have liked recently, some of you will know why, but one thing I didn't expect to see when I came back were 'fans' actually having a pop at Meat's performance.

I am trying to undertstand exactly why you are calling Meat half-hearted in his performances. Meat has so many fans acros the world, that may only get to see him once, so he is obviously going todo the most popular songs he has recorded, plus his own favourites. If you do not like these songs, and you feel you know what is going to be played, why go to the concert?

It reminds me of a time (back in the day :P ) when I went to see Gary Moore in concert. I watched one of the most amazin guitarists ever pull out a truly memorable performance and left with my jaw on the ground. But just as I walked through the hall of the teatre I heard some moron moaning "why didn't he do parisianne walkways? How could he not do it, it ruined everything..."

Surely if you are a true fan of an artist and go and see them live, you want to see them give the best performance possible, which means doing the songs they want to do.

I am sure Meat spends a lot of time producing a setlist that he feels is fun and enjoyable for him to do, whilst also giving the fans what they want, and I for one thing he gets it on the button every time.

If Meat decided he wanted to try something different one day, and he would get enjoyment out of doing a concert of b-sides, I would love to hear him doing what he wanted to do. If he chose to do the most popular songs, all the singles etc, then again, I would want to hear him give his best performance which would be doing what he wanted.

At the end of the day we go to see Meat. Personally, I would want to see him perform the songs that he feels are his best, the most appropriate, and what he thinks the fans want. After all , he has been in the music business longer than I have been alive, so I would think he has the most experience out of all of us.

Fireball:
I look forward to seeing the greatest live performer in action in December. We all know you will gie it everything you have got, like you have done your whole life. I dont care if people call me an ass kisser or a vrown noser or anything else, I know what I think and what I feel, and I think I feel the same as pretty much every Meat Loaf fan around.

Lets all 'Keep on Rockin!'

Winston 23 Oct 2003 13:42

Again, I shall repeat myself for the people who are coming on here and mouthing off without reading my original post, that included the words 'half hearted'. What I sad was that 'Why should I except a half hearted performance from any artist'. Exact words. Now people, please read the original post I put up and please tell me where I said that I thought Meat was giving a half hearted performance vocally, physically etc.

The half hearted remark was in relation to a repetitive set list. NOTHING ELSE.

Kitty Kat 23 Oct 2003 20:05

I think that the set lists are bound to be repetetive to a certain extent. We all have our favourite songs that we hope to hear at the concerts we visit. However it certainly doesn't mean that we don't like the show just because our favourite doesn't happen to be on the list.

No-one can please everbody all the time, but to please 95% of fans 95% of the time is, I think, something that Meat can be really proud of. After all 400,000 bums on seats speaks for itself.

Jayd 23 Oct 2003 21:22

You know, when I sit here at my computer and read some of this stuff, it really makes me laugh, childish argument's, people do have their right to an opinion to say what they want, but it doesn't mean we have to agree and get drawn in to pettish arguing. If you don't like the same songs each time you go to a concert, only buy for one night then. Let someone else have the privelage of listening to Meat and enjoy themselves on a different night. Remeber were not the only one's going to see him, there are many thousands more in that venue too. So less of the arguing the arguing please, and let's all enjoy what's coming up in the next couple of weeks. :D

Geembobble 23 Oct 2003 21:25

My first ever concert I went to was Meat Loaf when I was about 10 and this will be the 3rd time I've seen him and I'd just like to say that his performances and subsequent ones on tv could hardly be seen as half-hearted. Since then I've seen other bands and none have been as good as Meat. Cant wait for the Glasgow show.

R. 23 Oct 2003 23:15

I 've split some messages from this topic because I do think they simply don't belong here. You know were to look.

i assume you are not refering to me, as to say i am 'mouthing off' would be very rude.

I have aread your post, and stated that your half hearted comment must be about the set list, however would you rather see a set list made by a man who has many many years of experience in music, chooses what he thinks his fans want, and what he enjoys doing, or something that is different for the sake of being different?

Winston 24 Oct 2003 15:58

I would like him to be different. Try different things/songs. Thats what I would like, obviously the majority people are happy with the current situation. Fair enough.

Apologies Badger for being rude to you. I'm getting pissed of with people not reading my full post and taking bits and pieces out of Meat's post and making up their own assumptions as to what I was supposed to have said. Not everything that comes out of his mouth is Gospel.

Jayd 24 Oct 2003 16:03

Can everyone not just forget this now, as it is getting a bit boring now, everyone's had there say, so let's look forward to watching Meat perform.
Pleeeeeeeaaaaassseee, no more arguing, and more getting on, were all Meat fans, not rival football hooligans. Thankyou :D

Shellyb01 24 Oct 2003 18:27

Meat,

for me you could stand there and sing the same song for an hour and a half, and do the same song every night of your tour .... I would still come and see you, i would still adore you, I would always be a fan, and will always be a fan.

I don't believe you have ever been half-hearted .... you are the only singer I have seen in concert that I have been desperate to see again as soon as the show has finished ....

I saw you last year at the Summer Pops in Liverpool and I have never seen you perform better than you did that show. I am going to see you again next month at Manchester Arena on the 13th November, and no doubt you will be even more fantastic than you were in Liverpool.

Keep rockin' Meat - it's what you do best!

I'll always be a fan .....

Lots of love'n'stuff

MY SET LIST DOES NOT CHANGE ENOUGH and "that sucks" which means I "don't care about my fans" oh God here I am writting this post when I should be out learning new songs and working on my show... so just shoot me in the head ,I should be out working on my show.
I came from the Theater this is how I think, did not come from the bar world, but the bottom line is that.... all I care about is the show... it's all I think about 24 hours a day most days. I study my craft and how to improve it... changing songs does not improve it for me( it moves If it can help the play) there thats I how I look at my show, as a play!!! in fact this last summer I came off the stage in tears about 7 times because I thought I let the fans down. not because I didn't change the set. For it to be said that mY performance is half hearted and I don't care about my fans because my set list doesn't changeis BS.

Love you all
Meat

(I shorteded this quote to what I'm responding to.)

Meat,

Please stop thinking you need to justify yourself to us. We all know that you can't please all the people all the time. (And I hate it that you feel you need to.) For every person that critisizes you there are at least 3 or 4 of us here to defend you to the death. (Or something close to it.) And of course there's a big difference between constructive and destructive.

I can't comment on Winston's post he refers to because I'm not sure where it is to read and it's 1:15 am and I'm too tired to go hunt it down at the moment. Suffice to say when I have the time to do it I'll look for it. Till then I'll just sit back with the sweet memories of the 2 awesome concerts I've been fortunate to go to and wish I was going with the others over there on the rest of the tour. (HUGE sigh.)

Love & Hugs!

Lady B ~ thinking that we really need to do something for that Shane character to get him to one. Maybe take up a collection or something.

mariella 26 Oct 2003 10:48

Very good idea, LadyB. We should do something for that Shane-character!
Still no idea IF Meat will be coming to NZ, right!?

Vickip 26 Oct 2003 18:32

Very well said Lady B :)

And you're absolutely right ..... we've got to do something to help out poor Shane !!

:( I would like to put my two pennies worth inhere and say that anyone who says that meat's performances are half-hearted can not or has not been a FAN, because we all know he gives his all every time he steps out on to that stage, no matter how he is feeling ok i've finished ranting
