Star Trek

enjoyable to watch, though for my taste, they tried too hard to establish all the old characters and their relationships, instead of concentrating on a good story. Also Leonard Nimoy's part seemed a bit forced to satisfy the old ST fans... I would have much more preferred to see this as a good film in is own right. Still...one of the better ST movies.

sexyeyes_jo 08 Jun 2009 00:14

twins

Betty 08 Jun 2009 15:18

Then She Found Me
touching little movie with an outstanding cast!! Well worth watching

17 again
Good teen movie.
Reminded me a lot of "Big". I enjoyed it

Gran Torino. not bad, but very very different from what I was expecting.

RadioMaster 08 Jun 2009 18:45

what were you expecting then?

samurai7 08 Jun 2009 19:11

dunno. for some reason I was expecting more action. must have got my wires crossed somewhere along the way!

SamCat 08 Jun 2009 19:22

You were probably expecting a classic Clint Eastwood film which is what i was expecting and its not at the end which makes it better i think!!

samurai7 08 Jun 2009 19:51

yeah, I think you're right.

RadioMaster 08 Jun 2009 22:09

Terminator Salvation

In one word....unnecessary

MeatGrl1 09 Jun 2009 02:27

Just finished watching Disney's Mulan, it is OK but not as good as some of the others in my collection.

Pudding 09 Jun 2009 05:01

My 4 year old daughter isn't a big Mulan fan either, but she is 4 and doesn't understand the historical facts to which the film was based upon.

RadioMaster 09 Jun 2009 09:35

are you sure others do? :sneaky:

RockingBat 09 Jun 2009 11:28

Remember the Titans... excellent stuff from Denzel Washington and also watched "Taken".. brilliant one as well..

Hypnobabe 09 Jun 2009 12:24

Gran Torino was definitely the best film I've seen so far this year. Along with Slumdog I'd say.

samurai7 09 Jun 2009 17:08

The Strangers. not bad at all.

"Drag Me To Hell"
Very entertaining I thought. Perhaps not as scary as could have been but felt like a good rollercoaster/Ghost house ride. Very satisfying. Good stuff. The way scary movies should be done, instead of all the gore etc.

Sarge 10 Jun 2009 23:42

Serpico

sexyeyes_jo 11 Jun 2009 01:44

the crow thats a bloody good film i could watch that over and over again and not get bored with it was the last film brandon lee done as he died during making that film

Boa vs Python

pretty lame actually, but if you enjoy creature features and cheesy b movies with former playmates starring....then you'd like it

AndrewG 13 Jun 2009 12:53

"The Hangover"

Funny film and worth seeing but an 8.5 on IMDB??, I'm not so sure about that.

Why didn't you just rent a porn film?

RadioMaster 13 Jun 2009 13:04

cause that one wouldnt have giant fake cgi monsters :))
for the record, that former playmate girl did not have a single nude shot! Although another actress had a bathing scene that lasted about five minutes lol

I was almost forced to watch that by my friend's 4 year old daughter!

"Duel"
Still a classic but never knew there were so many bits where you see slight mistakes (crew/equipment visible), usually Spielberg is good at avoiding this I thought. In the bit where Weaver tries to call the police you can even see a reflection of a very young Steven Spielberg in the phone booth glass!!

RadioMaster 19 Jun 2009 23:37

The Omen (2006 remake)

was enjoyable to watch, though it had a hell of a lot of plotholes. I liked the subliminal images throughout the movie, like in the Damien flashbacks.

BUT:
why the hell did father brennan (who was the only one really knowing why Damien had to die) have the birthmark as well?
AND
why would the vatican doctors kill a baby and put the devils son there instead??
OR
if he knew where to go to find out how to kill Damien, why the hell did he travel across europe first??? In the time he needed, he couldve saved his wife's live.
OR
How the hell does it stay unnoticed when a patient get's killed in a hospital, with police officers right outside the door????
OR
Why would a family hire a creepy nanny who's turned up at the last minute, without ever inviting her, without further investigation who she actually is?????

I could go on...

mszee 20 Jun 2009 18:59

Finally, an adult movie...

Run, Fatboy, Run...loved this movie!

allrevvedup 21 Jun 2009 02:37

Transformers: revenge of the fallen

well, the plot synopsis sounds quite crap i have to say:
A teacher opens a time capsule that has been dug up at his son's elementary school; in it are some chilling predictions -- some that have already occurred and others that are about to -- that lead him to believe his family plays a role in the events that are about to unfold.

I thought the plot would be quite interesting, but the aliens at the end in a UFO reminded me of the final episode of The Colbys years ago. :shit:

AndrewG 22 Jun 2009 01:26

Yup I thought Knowing was a real let down too. The trailer made it look like one of the most interesting films since a while but the climax was just ridiculous and they let that mother of one of the kids die for absolutely no reason.

Pudding 22 Jun 2009 01:30

Well they were all going to die anyway, just a handful of kids were going to be saved on alien spaceships.

 I don't know you know.

Last two JB movies i've seen didn't turn out to be anywhere near as good as I expected

RadioMaster 23 Jun 2009 17:29

last one I've seen was be kind, rewind and I thought it was pretty decent...

The Flying Mouse 23 Jun 2009 17:41

 It was ok but the laughs were too few and far in between.

As I believe i've mentioned before, i like my comedys to be FUNNY.

I just felt the film could have had the laughs coming at a steadier rate

RadioMaster 23 Jun 2009 17:45

it was different from what he usually does, but I enjoyed that too. It was nice to see that he can play a little bit more deep roles as well.

AndrewG 23 Jun 2009 20:20

Be Kind Rewind is probably one of the worst movies I have ever rented on DVD. Such clumsy film making in my opinion; People walking out of shot whilst still talking (watch it again and you will know what I mean), a plot that doesn't know where it is going and such missuse of a good idea. I constantly hoped for it to get better but instead the plot headed towards such a lame conclusion I just had to switch off.
Tropic Thunder was another rubbish movie where I was more cringing than laughing (Tom Cruise in make up dancing is funny...wtf???) and indeed King Kong (Jack Black version) sucked ass big time too imo.

I usually appreciate moviemaker's efforts, even if it doesn't quite work out to a certain extent. But those three Jack Black ones are really not worth recommending imo and I find it incredible they were made. Even on paper someone should have realised they would suck no matter who is in them or what kind of visual effects you can produce.

mszee 23 Jun 2009 20:25

We didn't make it past first half an hour of Be Kind Rewind...if that...

RadioMaster 23 Jun 2009 20:25

Evil One 24 Jun 2009 00:52

I agree. He's a one-trick pony. The only film I've liked him in was School Of Rock and I'd hardly discribe it as brilliant.

samurai7 24 Jun 2009 03:57

Have you not seen High Fidelity then? Awesome movie, as far as I'm concerned.

Sarge 24 Jun 2009 07:37

Another very old movie with Errol Flynn: Captain Blood.

Pudding 24 Jun 2009 09:06

Rumour had it that Errol Flynn could bang out "Star Spangled Banner" on a xylophone with his large penis.

Sarge 24 Jun 2009 10:28

yeah, I quite liked it..... After that I went for The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and followed that up with Sleepers last night....

As for the Jack Black debate, I have to say I don't find him particularly funny either... I was very disappointed with Be Kind Rewind, High Fidelity was okay but only because of John Cusack, and JB's King Kong struck me as the scriptwriter saying 'okay, this is going to be really bad, lets see what else we can stuff in it... We've got a giant gorilla, fainting blonde, big stars..... hmmm.... I know!!!! Giant insects!!! Dinosaurs!!!!! That'll make it better!!!!!!!!!'

(Please note, the number of exclamation marks is directly proportional to the stupidity of the idea.....)

Pudding 24 Jun 2009 23:35

The Doors with Val Kilmer because there was nothing else on TV. Christ what a shit film on every front. I'm not a particular Doors fan anyway :shit:

AndrewG 25 Jun 2009 00:56

"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen"

Oh my god. Words fail to describe this awful, awful, awful mess of what cannot really be called a "movie" in my opinion.
And me actually having an appreciation of the MTV - popcorn style movies which Michael Bay is famous for doing (the awesome Bat 2 Meat Loaf videos, I also loved "The Rock", "Bad Boys I" and especially "Armageddon") I can ONLY conlcude this one sucks ass big time. Possibly one of the worst cinema experiences I have ever had (no joke). I just wanted it to end after about 45 minutes in... I definitely would have walked out of the cinema if I had been there alone or if I was with someone else who didn't like it.

The first Transformers movie would never be in my top 100 films or let alone top 1000 probably but at least it had originality, some interesting ideas and funny bits. I actually remember seeing the Transformers car chase mid way through and thinking it was excellent. The 2nd installment is just ridiculous. 150 minutes of explosions, CGI, empty and uninteresting characters who all pretty much do nothing, plot lines which move far too fast, no single shot that lasts longer than 1 second, Megan Fox (hugely overrated imo) running around for no reason in a slinky top, absolutely NO character development, etc. etc. And believe me I actually wanted to like this film and would have forgiven some of these cliches to an extent but 150 minutes of constant CGI really does not make a movie I think. There is NO heart in this, NO passion for making a movie which harnass human values to any extent, instead it spits in the face of decency and it makes a Britney Spears musicvideo look like an opus. The "script" must have been 1 single A4 sheet????

Definitely the worst thing I have EVER seen that has had the names "Michael Bay" and "Steven Spielberg" associated with it. I have forgiven them both for "Bad Boys II", "Pearl Harbour", "1941" and "Amistad". How in God's name do they get away with making something like this???? :-( :-( :-(

Extremely disappointed.... I cannot believe Paramount and Dreamworks have commissioned Transformers 3. I can only conclude they have NO dignity whatsoever and I have lost a LOT of respect for Spielberg on this one too. :-(

Sarge 25 Jun 2009 05:33

Mine was Titanic. A far-fetched cheesy love story, Leonardo Di Caprio, Celine Dion singing... :panic:

Just watched The Transporter. The "plot" has more holes than Swiss cheese but the action is amusing.

Evil One 25 Jun 2009 05:33

Bangkok Dangerous was the worst film I've ever seen at the cinema. Utter, utter shit. Not how the trailers made it look at all.

Devil's Son 25 Jun 2009 11:24

sorry to say this but the worst movie i have seen was pleasure drivers :oops:

Sarge 25 Jun 2009 11:34

Fortunately, it never made it to the cinema (at least not in Europe, as far as I know). I paid €1 for the DVD and I think I paid too much. There is no "pleasure" in that flick, it is annoying from the beginning to the end. Even Meat Loaf is annoying in that movie (that should give you an idea how bad it is, I usually enjoy his performances, even in crappy movies).

Yeah definitely one of M Night Shymalan's weaker efforts. I didn't think it was total crap (as in Transformers 2, nothing can ever get that bad imo) but it didn't have a strong twist and the subject matter was far too morbid to be entertaining rather than captivating I thought. His films "Signs" and "The Sixth Sense" are well beyond brilliant I think though.

Pudding 03 Jul 2009 12:00

Signs was shit, Sixth Sense was his best to date. Is The Happening on the same shit scale as Knowing?
