While I'm not a fan of Zombie's the-gorier-the-better approach at halloween, and the fact that he tries to give Mike Myers a backstory, you gotta appreciate that he tries to make the movie his own. Too many of the recent horror remakes have been 1:1 copies of the originals with updated effects and less appeal. The Zombie Halloween isnt my taste, but I appreciate the effort.

and semi-on topic

Just rewatched the original Nightmare on Elm Street.

While you gotta admit it is a low budget movie with dogdy acting (better effects and acting in the remake), this one leaves you scared, not sickened or disturbed.

Interesting horror thriller by David Cronenberg, with James Woods and Debbie "Blondie" Harry.

Yes, is an awesome film. The original Manhunter comes close, but the latest Lector films are just pants. Especially young Lector. Yuk.

Yeah, thought it probably was all about the 3D. Think it's being re-released later this year (trying to get to $3billion I expect!) so will have to catch it then.

I can't do 3D movies, i only see 3D films in muted colours with no 3D effect, also gives me a migraine. Odd i know, but whats new, i have Avatar and have yet to see it, cos it disappeared to me dads, me bros, to another bro. I finally have it back in my possession ! Gonna watch it tomorrow, i hope that it lives up to the hype.
Last film i watched was Gran Torino, a superb film, Clint Eastwood in a great role, and outstanding as the director of this film.

Evil One 22 May 2010 01:07

I saw Avatar in 2D and it was an ok film dressed up in fancy effects.

Last film would be Iron Man 1. Ok, but I think 2 was probably better.

i can't stomach Alec Baldwin ... but i've recently (since Doubt and Julie and Julia ) become a Meryl Streep fan and now i HAVE to see it... hehe ...

welp ... husband and i got one film under the belt for our Let's Watch Movies weekend ... hehe ... Up... LOVED it ... okay ... wept near to the beginning... laughed out loud through much of middle ... it dragged a bit at one point... but lesson learned at the end... so ... wtf am i doing sitting indoor at a computer ?? ... ... lol ... then on my own i watched The Hunchback of Notre Dame ... starring Charles Laughton... had never seen it... didn't realize Quasi was deaf !!! ... stayed with stayed with ... and kick my butt ... nodded at the last five minutes... I DIDN'T WANT TO... I WAS ENTIRELY ENTHRALLED ... but exhausted... lol ...

watched Die Hard 4, wasnt bad, still prefer 3 though. I think the dialogue between Bruce Willis and Sam Jackson is what makes this my fav of the series.

and (I'm kinda embarrased to admit) I just watched "Death Race".
Incredibly stupid, incredibly bad. That's the kind of movies my parents used to warn me about.

BUT I thoroughly enjoyed it...

4 was a good generic actioner, but it was no Die Hard film. I love 1 and 3 for the dialogue and general intelligence behind them, and 2 and 4 for the big dumb special effects

Gotta say though, it became a little far fetched when Bruce Willis jumped off the destroyed truck, onto the exploding jet, off again onto the destroyed motorway just to find himself in the middle of an explosion lol

Sue K 31 May 2010 19:55

awww RIIIGHT !! ... we (as in my husband and i and not in speaking as the Queen... hehe) finally watched not one but TWO films actually made within the past year and half... YAY FOR US ... okay ... last night ... A Special Relationship ... that being between the loverly and very much missed former PM Tony Blair ... and "i know he's a bastid but i can't help it ... he's so likable ... i like him !" ... former President Bill Clinton ... Tony B was once again played by Michael Sheen (he was loverlying in The Queen) ... and Dennis Quaid (such an interesting choice !) portrayed Bill Clinton... very well ... husband and i both enjoyed it immensely ... even if you've only had a fingertip on the pulse of that time period you sit and wait for the events to happen and look forward to hearing discussions behind closed doors ... ie... Monica L ... omgoodness ... anyroad... it was a story of friendship... in particular how Mr Blair stood by Mr Clinton even through the Monica L issue ... not just stood by him but pulled his arse out the fire !! ... i think too it was a bit of a telling of the love stories of the two world wide power couples... the Blairs... and Billary ... the actresses portraying Mrs Blair and Hillary (i'm sorry but i need to check their names) ... were just out of this world as well !!!

then this morning... Public Enemy... Johnny Depp as John Dillinger... after the initial excitement of my "omgawd it's the deppie one!!"... i got lost in the character because ... as always... JD just vanishes and is who he is portraying... okay ... a couple times i saw George from Blow and Sweeney Todd peek out... hehehe... but otherwise... two thumbs up to JD... it got a bit slow in the middle... but picked up to the sky with the chase ... FBI after Dillinger... he evaded them so many times... it was heart gripping ... a bit of a love story there as well ... you know... a love interest for Dillinger... all in all... we enjoyed that as well... and it's taped... (half price on On Demand... fine job !!!) so i can watch it as many times as i like !!!...

whew... and ta.. if you've gotten this far... lol ... i'm just excited i had more to say than... hehe... "From Hell... again" ... ...

thanks for the recommendation Michelle... i saw the film advertised on On Demand yesterday and will check it out ... have loved a good "monster" movie since a kid... in fact... hehe... i've loved bad ones as well ... hehe... thanks again ! ... oh... the last film for us was the remake of The Stepfather ... did i say that yet ? ... hehe ... okay welp ... off to deliver the newspapers i am ...

Sue K 02 Jun 2010 12:07

Happy Wednesday meatie peeps ...

... as i said in yesterday's post ... the last film viewed was a remake of The Stepfather ... what i found interesting about it this time around is the use of modern technology ... i don't know the year the original was filmed but it was prior to the computer/ cellphone age i'm sure ... that's what struck me ... i enjoyed it for what it was ... the eldest son was likeable finally ... i don't think the stepfather in this one was near as creepy as in the original... the actor Terry ... last name along the lines of Quinn something ? ... the actor on Lost he is ...was way creepier ... when i'd hear him whistling Camptown Ladies ... i'd get goosebumps... in a bad way ... lol ...

RadioMaster 02 Jun 2010 22:26

Charlie Wilson's War

very clever. Didnt think it was possible to make a comedy about the political background of the russian-afghanistan war of the 80s, that's touching, intelligent and funny.

Citizen Jane

didnt expect a lot from this one. I was pleasantly surprised. Once again the Loaf played a part that couldve drifted off into a cliché quickly, yet he handled it very good. The second half of the movie was kind of a let down though, too predictable IMO.

Monstro 02 Jun 2010 22:34

Sherlock Holmes - was pleasantly surprised by this one, wasn't my choice but find myself looking forward to a sequel
