Indeed ... Bob Geldof was all ready to organise a concert to help us if I remember correctly.

Hypnobabe 12 Jun 2007 12:38

I get away with eating a whole one 'cos I take Charlie (my four year old) and share it with him... he gets half a sausage, half a slice of toast, a few chips, a few beans and half a bit of bacon, and I get the rest!!!

LucyK! 12 Jun 2007 12:39

And would you stop talking about time and money, otherwise we're gonna end up in Amsterdam!

AndyK 12 Jun 2007 12:41

Passports honey, passports!

dont need passport for inter-EU flights :whistle:

LucyK! 12 Jun 2007 12:58

What? Andy?!!

AndyK 12 Jun 2007 13:02

There are no longer any frontier controls at the borders between 13 EU countries. This is thanks to the Schengen agreement which is part of EU law. The Schengen rules remove all internal border controls but put in place effective controls at the external borders of the EU and introduce a common visa policy. The full Schengen members are Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden (but not Ireland and the United Kingdom) plus Iceland and Norway (which are not EU members).

The 12 countries that have joined the EU since 2004 do not yet fully participate in Schengen. You will therefore need a valid passport or ID card to travel to those countries and to Ireland and the United Kingdom.
So, us Uk'ers need passports. :(

LucyK! 12 Jun 2007 13:03

So is a full UK driver's license a Valid ID?

RadioMaster 12 Jun 2007 13:05

slightly different thing.
Schengen is about controls at all. If youre going from Germany to Austria, you dont have to stop at the border for controls.
But for flights between ALL EU states, you just need a simple ID card that'll be controlled. No passport at all.

AndyK 12 Jun 2007 13:05

No 'friad not. But it's irrelevant as you can't leave the UK without a valid passport, regardless of destination as the UK hasn't signed up to Schengen, unless you're hiding in the back of a lorry going through the tunnel

RadioMaster 12 Jun 2007 13:07

so, you say, without passport, everybody gets to the UK, but nobody away from the UK? cool :))

LucyK! 12 Jun 2007 13:07

So it's no? Don't make me read all that again because I don't get it!

I'm only small, I reckon I could fit in a lorry...or we could swim from where I live!

Yes it's a no, UK Citizens require a passport to travel anywhere except with the UK, Isle Of Man, Ireland and Channel Islands, for travel to those destinations a valid photo driving license is an acceptable form of ID for boardnig a flight.

... and what's this "we" could swim? :?

LucyK! 12 Jun 2007 13:10

Yeah - that's the kind of crap I do and it's fun!

RadioMaster 12 Jun 2007 13:21

LucyK! 12 Jun 2007 13:37
