That sounds like it could be one movie :bleh:

I thought both of those were a bit over-rated to be honest. Reasonably amusing, quite interesting, some very good special effects, but really not much to them.

watched Little Shop of Horrors last night

Sue K 06 Oct 2010 01:16

Last night I woke in the middle of it and found myself channel surfing onto Play Misty For Me. It looked very dated, like an old American tv show... lol ... but, to my knowledge, it's the film that gave the world First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack and when the song began to play, all sorts of memories came flooding back to me. Afterward, though, I STILL had to put on my Law & Order:Criminal Intent dvd to have Det Bobby G's gentle voice send me off to snoozeville... lol ... Restless night ...

Interesting Eastwood film, have seen it several times.

I just watched Burning Life, a road movie with some amusing Thelma & Louise references.

Was a good movie from what I remember.

RadioMaster 06 Oct 2010 22:44

the reviews say the original is supposed to be a lot better. mediocre action movie I'd say, but enjoyable to watch. I liked John Travolta as the bad guy.

Sue K 09 Oct 2010 14:57

Happy Saturday meatie peeps ...

I woke in the middle of the night, channel surfed and found a movie title that sounded very familiar to me - The Narrows. It's a film featuring "be still my heart" Vincent D'Onofrio of Law&Order:Criminal Intent fame and I watched the whole thing ! I enjoyed it okay. It's about the mob in NYC, a bit, more of a kid and his dad's relation with and in it and life in general. Vincent was cast as the dad. It was from 2008 and it was just, for me, the most surreal feeling to see "Det Bobby Goren" being a dad to a grown kid and cursing and being rash ... lol ... I've seen films from when Vincent was younger, but to see him, you know ... oh never mind... lol ...

It was no The Godfather, but if you like mob movies or Vincent, it's not time wasted, imo.

RadioMaster 10 Oct 2010 00:02

this is one weird movie :wtf:

Steve6 10 Oct 2010 03:56

I went to the cinema tonight to watch "Buried".

When the film was over a few people got up and said "That was the worst film ever". I actually quiet liked it, despite every minute of the film taking place inside a coffin. The last few minutes had my heart racing, and the ending had me saying WTF!!!! You just can't have an ending like that!!!

It's worth a look folks.

Hypnobabe 10 Oct 2010 11:38

Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, (plus all of the bonus disk) followed ny Finding Neverland and In The Electric Mist...

Sue K 12 Oct 2010 00:16

We watched Planet 51 today. It's an animated film. I thought it cute. I think it bored my husband. It was about an astronaut landing on a planet of these funny little alien-looking people and he was considered a scary alien as opposed to the way films usually play, that aliens land on Earth and scare the hell out of all... lol ...

RadioMaster 12 Oct 2010 00:21

Wild Things 2

Reminded me of Cruel Intentions 2, in that sense as it's basically the same as part one, with different (worse) actors. Same plot, some scenes were recreated shot by shot. Enjoyable to watch though.

Me and my husband were some of the people who left the cinema saying What a load of old fuc, king shite, 2 hrs of my life wasted and i paid for that ! I am sorry but after 15 mins the film is boring, at first you did feel a bit uncomfortable this bloke trapped in a coffin. But after that it was WTF ! Is this it ? i reckon it cost £2.50 to make, £2.50 too much i think !
I kept thinking something will happen, there will be a twist, the twist was that you paid to watch this drivel ! I think i would rather have had neat bleach poured in my eyes !
IMO it ranks as on of the worst films ever ! I was disappointed that Ryan Reynolds, an actor i like signed up for this shit !
Next time i will research my films, before i decide to spend money and time !
The ending sucked as well imo, this film should have gone straight to dvd and then the bin !
Most of the people leaving the pictures felt the same, like they had been robbed, at least Dick Turpin wore a mask !

Thanks for your review, Michelle. I only go to a movie house to see Johnny Depp films due to funding AND On Demand on tv system AND patience... lol ... Ryan Reynolds is a favorite actor of mine, too and when I heard on radio review the concept of the film, my first thought was, "Well, at least Ryan Reynolds is in it as a saving grace", but he managed not to save it, hunh ? I don't want to know how it ends, but the other thought was "and if he doesn't die, it's crap" ... lol ... Call me, WHATEVER, but I'm tired of all these last second impossible recues in films. Thanks again for your review. And I think "cynical" is the word I was floundering for there... hehe...

24K 13 Oct 2010 14:42

Yea even Ryan Reynolds couldn't save the film, the ending i won't give away but i didn't like it, just not my type of ending.

I was hoping for a last minute rescue, it arrived in the form of the end credits. If i had watched it on the telly, i would have turned it off, but seens how it costs you a small fortune to go to the pictures, we were determined to see it through. I kinda wish we hadn't ;) LOL..
I won't be back at the pictures for awhile, cos we will have a puppy to look after, i had wished we went and saw The Town instead, i heard that its canny good !
Still you live and learn, i should have looked in more detail into the premise of the film, rather than just going on the adverts, which as always show the 20 seconds of a movie that makes it look good.

Steve6 13 Oct 2010 14:58

But to be fair 24K it did get a few good reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. 74% approval rating the last time I checked. I can see why people really hated it. Comparing it to an Alfred Hitchcock type film was very accurate in my opinion. I didn't mind the ending to be honest. Nearly all films end with a happy ending these days, this was different, and I liked it.

Well I call you WHATEVER. I also don't see the relevance to what you posted in relation to "Buried". The whole movie is about the rescue.

No way can you compare this film to Hitchock's work either. It's very different and much more disturbing than anything he did.

As I said this film is simply not for everyone. In fact I would say the vast majority of movie goers probably won't like it. I'm really surprised it ramped up to number 3 in the UK box office.

A movie you shouldn't miss which is great as I've said is "The Town", and Johnny Depp is not in that one either. If he was it would have sucked probably as it would all be about him instead of a clever story and extremely good directing.

Last movie I saw was Back To The Future again in the cinema last night.

just watched Shock Treatment, the sequel to Rocky Horror.

I actually knew for ages there was a sequel, but somehow never felt the urge to check it out. I rented it today, and I'm glad I did. It's actually quite good. Of course you cant compare it to RHPS, but I dont think you should anyway. Very campy setup, a unique story, and some catchy tunes - what more do you want from a Richard O'Brien movie?

Andrew, all I know about this film is Ryan Reynolds stars and it's about a man buried in a box with only a cellphone, a book of matches and 30 minutes of oxygen and that Michelle (24K) hated it... lol ... I don't understand what you're saying to me about "relevance". I don't know why you're so angry sounding toward me... or ... Johnny Depp for that matter ... ;) ... I'm glad you enjoyed the film. To Catch A Yeti

The annoying fat kid has a certain entertainment factor and that beard suits Meat very well  but the yeti (???) looks like a cheap toy. Poor kids who had to watch that - and poor Meat Loaf fans who endure such flicks just because their hero decided to take part in them. At least it was was a leading part and not another "blink and you'll miss me" appearance.

Capitalism: A Love Story
Probably Michael Moore's best. Surprisingly good really. Almost a sequel to his Roger & Me in many ways. Enjoyed watching it (though that sounds rather strange considering the subject matter and some of the depressing things you see). It does have a kind of a happy end focusing on the Obama presidential win, though I get the impression that actually has made very little difference to communities throughout the USA so far or the country's foreign policies. There is a whole new movie Moore could make about that but doubt he will.
If you enjoyed his previous documentaries such as Fahrenheit 9/11 you will probably like this one too. Well put together and keeps you entertained or engrossed I should say.

Husband and I watched the end of Dirty Dancing... we cried ... I watched the end of Hair while husband busied himself in the kitchen ... I cried ... HOWEVER... lol ... I was not aware Ellen Foley was in the film Hair !!! That was a bit of a meatie connect. And when will husband learn not to channel surf with me in room ? Maybe he learned his lesson yesterday, although he WAS the one to point out Staten Island, starring... omg be still my heart... agaaain... Vincent D'Onofrio and it was coming on in two minutes and WE WATCHED IT ... lol ... It's a mob film AGAIN... lol ...Ethan Hawke was in it, too and it was a quirky , indie sort of film that I enjoyed. I watched Lovely Bones last night. I don't quite know what to say. It left me a bit emotionally drained for a bit after. Although I'd never want her as a mom, thank Loaf for a bit of comic relief in the form of Susan Sarandon's performance. The character of the murderer just had to be about the most horrid creature ever to come on screen. Nearing film's end, I had to turn away from him and those eyes of his... looking... watching... watching... creeped me out badly ... I'm not sure I'll ever watch this film again. It was excellently done, imo, but I can't say I enjoyed it due to subject matter.

No, I agree. First 2 are awesome, Goldfinger is very good, Thunderball is boring, You Only Live Twice is kinda fun but Connery phones it in. Diamonds Are Forever is the worst film of them all. So cheap and connery looks so uncomfortable with the humour, and very old in places too.

Evil One 07 Nov 2010 00:42

I've also noticed that the proportion of time Connery is on screen throughout the whole film seems less than that of his successors, if that makes sense.

The only James Bond film I've ever seen is Goldfinger and that was at the theater when it first came out and probably only because I filled with the madness of everything British thanks to the four loverly lads from Liverpool ... lol ... I'm not fond of spy films, though I was quite fond of the tv show The Man From U.N.C.L.E., I know ... lol ... a silly bit of fluff in retrospect. Maybe it's because spy films make me think too much and I get a bit lost following who's who and doing what to whom ... lol ...

Anyroad, I saw a half minute of Avatar this morning. I quick turned it off thinking I may want to see it from beginning to end. Now, do I want to do that ? Anyone ? Speaking of time on screen, I read or heard somewhere that, oh awful, I can't think this morning, the actor who played Hannibal the Cannibal, he was only on screen for either 11 or 14 minutes during Silence of the Lambs ... HOPKINS... lol ... ANTHONY... there we go. I think I'll check that out. Doesn't it seem he was present forever ? I guess it was just the overwhelming creepiness of his persona that never left, plus the character became so famous particularly in that creepy mask... lol ... similar to Jason in his hockey mask ... lol ...

Most of them don't have a difficult plot to follow! Make the effort to watch From Russia With Love as that is really good. Also Dr No, Live And Let Die, The Man With The Golden Gun, For Your Eyes Only, Licensed To Kill, Golden Eye and Tomorrow Never Dies. A lot of the Bond films have aged badly though, and some weren't too hot to begin with.

The special effects range from excellent to very good throughout, although I'm not sure how the cinema experience will translate to home viewing. Take those effects out of the equation though and you're not left with much. The storyline is pretty basic and Sam Worthington isn't the best actor in the world.

Thanks for your feedback. Sometimes on the On Demand application of our cable system Bond films are available sans ads for a month. Perhaps next time I'll pick out a few you suggested and give them a go. As for Avatar, I think I'll view that sans family. I'm not big on special effects and I seldom go to the theater so I think I'll be okay with tv viewing. Thanks again !

Predators

there's one thing you know about a movie when Robert Rodriguez is involved: It might not be a cinematical masterpiece, but you'll have an awesome time watching it

Is he the person who directed Once Upon A Time In Mexico ? I think that film's great and not just for the fact the deppie one is in it. The violence is so over the top crazy to the point you laugh out loud. The gun battle scene in, I don't know if it's the President of Mexico's home or a State building, was just out of this world ! Sliding down bannisters and shooting bad guys so they fly backward through air on impact ! Too wild ! And of course, JD's character's showdown with the two bad guys ! Laughed like hell !

I'll take your word for it ... ;) ... I watched a film years back called Freaks. It's an old black and white film. I think it was made back in the 30s. Howard Stern, the radio talk jock here in the States, was always talking about it. I saw it was going to be on tv and gave it a view and YIKES... lol ... Creeped me out for days... maybe even to THIS day... lol ... I know I'll never watch it again. Once in the blue I'll see it listed on the tv guide and my stomach kicks in... ... lol ...

I'm not fond of spy films, though I was quite fond of the tv show The Man From U.N.C.L.E., I know ... lol ... a silly bit of fluff in retrospect. Anyroad, I saw a half minute of Avatar this morning. I quick turned it off thinking I may want to see it from beginning to end. Now, do I want to do that ? Anyone ? I don't think my family will like it. The half minute I saw was a bit... lol ... WORDY.. for a couple people who watch all Die Hards, Lethal Weapons and that one with Charles Bronson there was a series of that I can't think the title of right now. So... lol ... I'm no brainiac, but will I enjoy it, ya think ?

As Evil One says, I wouldn't worry about being confused by most James Bond films. Just sit back and enjoy.

I recommend the following:
Sean Connery: dr no, from russia with love.
George Lazenby: ohmss.
Roger Moore: live and let die, the spy who loved me, for your eyes only, octopussy.
Timothy Dalton: living daylights.
Pierce Brosnan: tomorrow never dies, the world is not enough.
Daniel Craig: casino royale.

Quite a long list I know but for me these are the best of the bunch. Most of the others are very good too although to varying degrees. The ones I think are the worst for each actor are

sean: Diamonds Are Forever (cringeworthy)
Roger: View To A Kill (Rog is OLD, budget is nil, inspiration is gone)
Pierce: Die Another Day (omg. Pierce is awesome. Script seems to have been written by 2 teams of people that never met or combined their stories until the last minute. An excellent base story ruined by too many in jokes, Halle Berry, and absolutely appalling cgi tidal wave surfing. No really.)

In terms of Avatar, I watched it at home on 2d blu ray. To be honest I can't really see what the fuss was all about. Don't get me wrong, it is very well crafted, but the story is thin and unoriginal, the effects vary between admittedly stunning to computer gamey, and it all gets a bit soppy before proper war starts. Like they had a ticklist to try to appeal to the broadest consumer base... Soppy disney romance bit for the girls - tick! Guns, explosions, and big things being blown up for the boys - tick! Passable entertainment but nothing more.

I imagine however that this could be the film that imax and 3d were made for due to the amount of layered detail in various scenes.

Lordie ! Thanks much for taking time out to elaborate on the viewing of Bonds and Avatar. I will be giving the Bonds a try and I think my husband will like those. There is one he watches every time it is on, the one with alligators and Bond and a woman hung over them and it seems an impossible escape ? THAT one... lol ...

Avatar I may be watching on my own. My husband surfed onto it the other night and stayed a few minutes and is iffy on it. Maybe if we do it bit by bit, like reading a book or watching a mini-series on tv.

Thanks again !

The Ruins

very nasty little independent horror movie... but well worth watching! Leaves you very uneasy though, last time I was that sickened by a movie was Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. - While you'd expect tons of blood and gore from a movie called "TCM", you wouldnt necessarily with a movie called "The Ruins".

Story goes like your typical teenage horror flick: Four american kids to to mexico to check out ancient ruins... but are never come back.

This one is indeed very gory. And I dont mean the type of holy-crap-it's-so-over-the-top,-it's-funny gore, but the type of holy-crap-I-can-actually-believe-that-woman-just-cut-open-her-whole-body gore...

In a strange way I enjoyed it, but I dont have the desire to see it again...

 Looking over what we watch, I wonder what the body count is for this forums viewing every week :lmao:

Not watched any movies of late, Jo and I are on a Supernatural marathon.
Started at series 1 and are now on series 4.

That's us doing our (considerable) bit for the forum body count

btw check out the trailer for The Ruins http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzdto154_to

RadioMaster 14 Nov 2010 00:09

btw Neil, I actually rewatched the Dawn of the Dead remake the other night. Picked it up for 9,99. It's actually a lot more entertaining than I remembered. Only thing that was a bit hard to take was the woman on the bus "accidently" being chainsawed to death (lol... I guess).

Gonna take your advice and watch the original ASAP!

PanicLord 14 Nov 2010 01:35

Quantum of Solace on blu ray. Much better than I remembered it being. Yes it needs an occasional pause for breath, a touch more humour, and a little less shaky cam, but other than that I that it was an excellent combination of old and new bond, with terrific performances from craig and dench especially.

Drumbum 14 Nov 2010 03:22

Just watched "Up". What a funny movie!
