I have to agree with Andy's post, Meat's damned if he is and damned if he isn't, either way the papers would find some reason to make or get a negative story but I do feel it's unfair that all the media seem to focus on is his health and not the accomplishment that Bat has acheived in getting this recognition.
I wish Meat a speedy recovery.

Yeah I agree with both you and Andy, whatever Meat does, he doesn't win. If he cancelled, they would have had a go at him for not showing, when he shows up even though he isn't well, they imply he's drunk. That's true, they should be focusing on the accomplishment of Bat, after all that's what it was all about. Get well Meat, we all love you.

Im not an expert on this, but I think if he wouldnt attend a ceremony like this twice in a row, it might have some effect. For example that he wouldnt get awarded anymore at all, as people wouldnt expect him to show up, etc

Some effect maybe, but i very much doubt it would have been all over the place about what happened with him at the Q awards, thats my own opinion anyway.
As for he didn't attend a previous award and then if he hadn't attended this, i really don't think that they stop giving people awards just if they can't attend, afterall a lot of acts are out on the road etc, again thats just my opinion.

He wakes up on the morning of the awards and he feels unwell ... if he cancels his appearance there's the risk of the negative headlines and stories regarding him pulling out of attending. So, he turns up and what doe she get? Negative headlines and stories regarding him attending.

I disagree. The win in this situation would be Meats health. If you're damned if you do and damned if you don't, then you might as well be damned but be healthy with it.

Disagree all you want, but you're disagreeing with a point I wasn't making :)) I was talking about a lose/lose in terms of potential negative publicity not with regard to his health.

It's pretty obvious in hindsight, that Meat's best course of action would have been to stay tucked up in his hotel room (or even LA if he was ill before he travelled).

I think I must've been living under a rock the last 24 hours, no idea how I missed all this going on! Wish I hadn't watched the video clips but ah well.

Hope Meat makes a full recovery very soon.

have not been online for a couple of days, just read this thread and seen some clips ((not all, wished i had not seen one or two,bit upsetting)).
Godd on meat for getting the award and making it to the awards, and lets hope he makes a speedy recovery and feels loads better a.s.a.p.
A friend of mine suffers with vertigo and she has had some terrible times with it..

If you're not there to collect an award for health reasons I fail to see how you'd get the same negative publicity as accepting an award and making a tw@t of yourself.

At the end of the day Meat did what he thought was best or the people he's surrounded with made that decision for him. I think he needs to surround himself with better people in all honesty as he clearly wasn't in a coherent mental state.

well, there WAS one option to win for him:

He could have showed up sober ;)

*sits back, relaxes, sips his tea and waits for the stones to be thrown*

AndrewG 09 Oct 2008 09:47

Just don't hold that tea too close to your face when they throw a stone at you!

I'll throw the first one then!!!!!! Meat WAS sober, he already explained he had vertifo, that's why he was unsteady. It's bad enough the press saying stuff like that about him, he doesn't need it from his fans as well.

Pudding 09 Oct 2008 10:16

I don't believe Meat was drunk either, but I find it puzzling how he was coherent to say he had Vertigo several times but incoherent for everything else he said.

I hope he gets better soon.

Monstro 09 Oct 2008 10:35

Meat drunk? Nah

I'm more concerned as to why RJ wants to get stoned!!!!!

AndyK 09 Oct 2008 10:50

A couple of things.

It's getting a little tiresome to come on here and see RJ trying to start an argument when there isn't one to start in the first place.

Pud, I still think you've missed my point, not that it matters :p

grrr, met such a horrible woman today! we were discussing music on the bus, and i said how i was a big fan of meatloaf, she said, and i quote "oh that arrogant b*****d, i cant stand that man, did you see how much of a tw*t he made of himself the other night, it was all over the papers, blaming vertigo, he was bloody drunk!" when asked whether she had ever listened to any of his work, "why would i listen to someone who behaves like that in public, i've seen clips of him on T.V he's so arrogant and agressive on stage!" unfortunatly even after three stops of explanation theratre and acting on stage seemed beyond her grasp! i have no problem with other people liking different things, but sometimes people are awful, and the mwdia doesn't help!!! :@

If someone said that to me on the bus I'd say:
"Why? Well maybe cuz it's brilliant music sung by a fantastic singer/performer. But if you want to stick with shit music that will probably never touch your soul be my guest. Good luck to you. Oh there's your stop, mind you don't trip on the way out the door."

I take it it was a woman you knew or was it just a random conversation with a stranger? I wonder how that conversation would start?

"Nice weather we're having"
"It's not bad is it"
"I'm a big fan of Meat Loaf by the way, he's the best"

You probably took her by surprise.

Hahahahahaha! Nice one.

I do think she said they were talking about music in general though before the whole Meat thing popped up.

That's very articulate. It's always easy to think of what to say afterwards. When I'm put on the spot or taken by surprise I usually can't think of anything clever to say, and later think, I wish I'd said that!!!! I've had so many arguments with people over Meat and been given weird looks over the years, it's not funny. Other people just don't get it. If those people knew i went to England to see him this year, they'd really shake their head.
