AndyK 21 Sep 2007 12:52

I know I brought my works pass with me when I left, but I must have left my morning on the table as I'm running out of it at the moment too.

it's the best way to split the time depending on earth rotation/revolution. 1 day is 1/365,25 of one revolution cycle, 1 hour is 1/24 of the rotation cycle, and so on

but why 1/24 and so on

RadioMaster 21 Sep 2007 14:56

cause its the best (or the only?) way to split it up in a way that the minutes/seconds make sense. Otherwise an hour would have 85,934 minutes, etc. and a minute had 52,94654 seconds. Of course, they could have gone with 12 hours (each lasting 120 minutes), and so on, but I guess this is the least complicated and easiest calculatable way.

YOU can't stand it? I don't even get it...although truth be told I haven't tried very hard...thought it's weird and changed the channel...

And who said that hours and minutes and seconds even exist? Anybody ever met a live minute???

They show it here and, in fact, it goes years back...but I've tried a few times and I am just not getting it...

RadioMaster 21 Sep 2007 16:15

it is strange, we dont have anything like it over here.
All (well most) of the German tv series are.....crap. The interesting stuff is always coming from the US. And now I discovered that theres this huge hype in the UK about it. We dont have anything comparable. Something completely different.
