What do you do with your Meat Loaf collections?!

As the title says really..!

Over the years I'm sure we've all built up pretty good Meat Loaf collections, some bits are quite common, some very rare, some personal with memories attached to them...so what does everyone do with their ML merchandise?!

I adore my Meat Loaf collection and I daren't even consider how much money has gone into it, but I look around and it's all stored away :? I've got stunning artwork posters that live in the tubes they arrived in, rare vinyls that live in a box, concert t-shirts are in a zip-up bag under the bed. I'd love to have it all on show to appreciate what I have but I'd be running the risk of turning the house into a Meat Loaf exhibition which I think is a little much :p

So how do people keep their collections? Any interesting ways of displaying your favourite items?!

daveake 27 Oct 2008 14:26

One bedroom, used as an office, is my "display area", with a few photos, posters and picture discs all framed.

Other than that, anything flat is in a big folder and the rest is in the loft in a box.

I was hoping to insulate the outside of the house with beermats but I lost out on that auction ;-)

Dave

LucyK! 27 Oct 2008 14:29

:lmao: Dave promise me you'll never leave here!

Andy and I have decided we need to win the lottery so we can have a Meat Loaf room to actually enjoy all the stuff we spend money on, such a shame to have things in boxes

I wanna see some pics too people!

Be warned ... this is a family forum, so photos of how your Meat Loaf condom is used could result in a ban! :lmao:

All I have at the mo is one of this little item that's waiting for a space on the wall to present itself:

Well from photos I've posted in my blog area etc.... are sited in my bedroom. Nothing is allowed downstairs!

I have an office cupboard which stores away all my ML CD's and DVD's/VHS, a cd starge case too with some in and posters and other realated items are on the walls. I only have framed photos up - looks neater and more eye catching (apart from the huge posters I have which cant fit in frames )

Oh and yes, you've prob been waiting to hear it, the beer mats are on the bedroom wall :-P, with many left over in a box in the cupboard...

Then I have my ML Car (which I got some time ago from a complete bargin!!) and Truck which lives ontop of my PA Speakers.

Mind you though, I must get that signed photo you got in the meet n greet out of the envolope (which by the way the envolopeI had signed for my mum by Paul) and into a frame - next ebay purchase ;-)

Everyone thinks I'm mad, but I see it as; "If ya got it, show it" :smartass:

evil nickname 27 Oct 2008 16:34

I'm not really into the whole merchandise thing. So my collection mostly consists of vinyl (those Expedit cases from Ikea are great for storing LPs) and CDs (a year and a half after I moved to my new apartment, most are still in the box I moved them in).

Apart from that, I got one Bat II poster, some shirts (in the closet with even more shirts), two tour scarfs (from the Bat & Dead Ringer tours, and I think I know where they probably are) and a Bat III litho which is acting as a place holder until I find the right thing for that spot.

MeatGrl1 27 Oct 2008 16:54

My books and vinals etc are put away in a book case, posters are in the cylinders they arrived in under the bed and the t-shirts are in the draw. I have my DVD and CD's out on display for easy access;

.

mszee 27 Oct 2008 17:26

I've solved the problem of space quite nicely...I gave away every little collectible thing I've owned except for a few items are still packed away somewhere and it's a question whether they still exist.

However...while all multiple CD's are stored neatly in the cabinet...or not so neatly on the living room thingie...ML CD's together with a few others are all in the kitchen piled up high on the counter...that's where I listen to music...and what's the use of putting this stuff away...as soon as I put it neatly away I pull it out again...

duke knooby 27 Oct 2008 18:57

i've nothing collectable or unusual... just a few albums and dvds, videos and books randomly scattered depending on when they were last played/looked at.. and a 60x40 poster in a tube somewhere lol

RadioMaster 27 Oct 2008 19:02

All the walls of my flat are full of Meat/Jim promo posters, exept for one wall that holds all the vinyls. CD's/DVD's and other stuff is stored in a prominently placed cupboard. At the moment I'm waiting for a huge load of stuff that's gonna go onto the wall as well.
I'll see if I can take some pics.

All the several pieces of clothing are stored away though.

Do you nail vinyls to the wall or use screws?

I use poster strips (dont know if theyre called the same over there) they work perfectly, as you can remove them easily and they dont leave any remains on the disc.

After reading wario's post...I don't have any strength to reply to this...I am completely wiped out with a terrible migraine...

Sarge 27 Oct 2008 19:32

I'm not really a collector. I'm more interestered in what Meat Loaf does (e.g. music, movies) than in merchandise stuff. The only items I collect are rare records. When it comes to souvenirs, I predominantly own a few things I have a personal attachment to. I'm not interested in buying tons of stuff via eBay to turn my home into a Meat Loaf shrine. ;)

Monstro 27 Oct 2008 23:25

We've just redecorated the front room so all the Meat Loaf stuff (with the exception of the funny car and WTTN signed baseball) is in the bedroom. Unfortunately there's not enough wall space so we're currently awaiting stuff to be framed just as soon as we decide which of the stuff it'll be. Bat 1, 2 & 3 lithographs are gonna have to wait til we get a bigger place as are most of the original full size magazine adverts from the 70's and 80's. As with Smoggy I've got stuff that's never left the tubes it arrived in and there's probably stuff that'll surprise me as I've forgotten what's in most of them. Got way too many cd's and dvd's for the front room so they're probably just gonna stay boxed.

LOL I have that too only because of the paper they have printed it on I am terrified off rippage so it stays in the containter it arrived in, only posters that I have up are the Roadie and the one from 1979 of Meat & Karla LOL.

Here they are;

Roadie one is actually hiding a hole .

Sarge 28 Oct 2008 03:08

I like the one with Karla. I discovered that pic in an old magazine some time ago and thought it would make a great poster.
I have no Meat Loaf poster on display at all (I'm a bad fan ;)), maybe it's about time to put one up. Maybe the poster advertising the Hamburg concert this year since that was the best show I've seen of him in recent years. Or a funny one with Meat in front of custom Harleys, posing with sexy chicks. :D

Wario 28 Oct 2008 03:39

wow never knew Roadie spawned all this merchandise.

Guess people really love that movie. i find it random and hilarious especial Meat's pop in the movie :D

Never saw that picture in color with Meat and karla. great find.

djfierce 28 Oct 2008 08:25

i donated mine to my ex :p

carole 28 Oct 2008 10:14

Wow, what great collections some of you have. I've only had a computer for just over a year, so have only been buying stuff off ebay for that long, I'd hate to add up how much money I've spent. I can imagine how much stuff I'd have if I'd been buying things for years. I have fridge magnets on my fridge and freezer, some things are on my wall unit and cabinet, I have various pictures on my walls and kitchen cupboards. I just bought the other week a beautiful plaque that was issued by the record company when Bat 2 sold 3 million copies, it's currently sitting on the floor in front of my wall unit, I have to put a hook on my wall to hang it on. I got up at 3 in the morning to make sure I didn't get outbid on it. I have a long way to go to catch up with some of you guys though, but I'm trying!!!!!!

Carole

Hypnobabe 28 Oct 2008 12:09

I also don't have any merchandise, apart from cds and dvds, although I have a few t-shirts (in the drawer) and some tourbooks (on top of my enormous bookshelves) and a signed vinyl...

Also no posters up....

evil nickname 28 Oct 2008 12:42

Forgot all about the books. I got several tourbooks (Europe 82, Bad Attitude '84, Lost Boys & Golden Girls '88, Bat II, Born to Rock, TVBOML), To Hell and Back and The Phenomology of Excess in the bookcase.

Also, I keep track of my collection on my website (which I just gave an update). See the link below.

snowy 29 Oct 2008 23:49

You all have waaaaaaaaaaay too much time on your hands! Alphabetised, computerised etc - OMG.

1 piece of my collection is my signed RAH tshirt, which I eventually got around to framing about 6 months ago, is hainging at the top of my stairs, just outside my bedroom. A nice view to be greated with in the morning.

Apart from that, I have a BOOH3 promo card poster on the wall in my workroom, along with a signed Yankees Pennant on the shelf. This years TOGS calendar mysteriously stuck on April (Can't think why!), and t-shirts on a rota between the washing and ironing bsket. The rest of the bits - and it's not much is in a box on the shelf

Oh - I do have one of those cheap knock-off posters from outside Wembley on my wall in my classroom at school. (I am currently having to explain to my year 7 classes who Meat is - they just look at me blankly or say 'oh my dad likes them!)

rockfenris2005 30 Oct 2008 11:23

Getting it started took a lot of time (as did the recent revamp), but keeping it up to date is a matter of minutes (and sometimes even less).

I think my collection is still fairly compact. I don't have to have every version of every release out there. I mean, if there's no difference in the content of the US and European release of an album, I'll just take the one that's cheaper. I'm Dutch like that.

Here's a Bat 1, a Bat II family portrait (which seems to prove the opposite of what I just said), a close up of Bat II and Bat III.

Kev 04 Nov 2008 11:06

This is the best topic ever! I'll try and get my list up soon :)

AndyK 04 Nov 2008 11:11

I don't think the intention was that everyone just posted their "lists", it's more about how the collection is stored or displayed ... how ingenious have you been with storing it? Or is it just kept in a box under the bed?

Kev 04 Nov 2008 11:16

Thats what I meant, a pic of stuff rather than listing! too lazy and busy to type lol!

Most of my stuff is in boxes now :( Me and my missus sorted the house not too long ago and anything that wasn't 'classy' went in a box! bytch lol!

She did get me together a fantastic signed bat 3 listening party set framed though! It looks amazing!

The Flying Mouse 05 Nov 2008 23:31

 We don't have that much displayed in our house.

On one wall in the living room there is a a framed ad for IGLHFBOU, the limited edition gold Bat record, and a trade ad from 78 thanking everyone for coming to shows and buying records.

On the landing, just outside our bedroom, there is a desk with a couple of cupboards, and that is where most of the collection is.
Above the desk is a six foot wall rug of Meat

In the bedroom, there is a corner by the door where i've framed and hung a few fav things.
Signed copy of Bat, signed pics, a pic of me in the crowd at RAH, and the first Meat cassette I owned (Rock & Roll Hero).

BTW, little note on framing things like cassettes that can't go into pic frames.........

Poundland and the 99p shop have been known to sell little 3d display pieces for tennis or golf fans.

Something like this one I just found on e bay

http://media.mlxxfc.net/3dgolf.jpg

They're pretty cheap and cheerful, and it's easy to prise the back off, take off the mini golf clubs, balls, tennis rackets, etc, put new backing on the backboard, and use it to frame something that won't go in a conventional frame (such as my cassette).

They do look quite good when they are finished, and it's a great way to display some of your fav items (badges etc) without breaking the bank on specially made frames

I got told they were given out during concerts in 78-79. I got it signed by the man himself in Oxford street HMV (or was it virgin?) at the couldn't have said it better signing. He commented and said "wow thats old!"

Just thought i would share and see what people thought..

Wow that's fantastic, and even better that Meat signed it.

I believe they were given out only at the New York shows in 78.

Fraid mine isn't signed though

Ok I hope this works, it's the first time I've uploaded pictures on here. This is the concert programme from the first time I saw Meat back in 78 in Sydney. I was still in school back then so couldn't afford to buy a programme, but luckily managed to get it on ebay last year. I was going to get Meat to sign it at the concerts this year, but unofrtunately he wasn't signing stuff this time, so hope to get him to sing it sometime in the future. The other is the original newspaper add for the concert, which I've kept all these years.

Links to pics fixed.

Thanks so much for that Andy, I didn't like seeing the red cross in the box instead of Meat.

Finally got the Bat 2 picture disc on vinyl, been trying to get this for ages, but kept getting outbid on it. Also got a great promo CD with 6 tracks, 2 from each of the Bat albums.

I feel quite inferior now...
My inferior collection of Meat stuff, stored in a non-interesting way as follows:-

CDs = copied onto laptop (backed up on extenal hard drive), CDs packed away somewhere (mostly in a drawer)

DVDs/Videos = in a drawer/on a shelf/ex has custody (though to be fair, I think I have a video of his somewhere)

Piano/guitar books = on top of my keyboard (awaiting safe return home of my piano from ex's sister's house)

Guitar Picks = also on top of keyboard, with non-meat loaf picks (usually play guitar sitting by keyboard therefore makes sense to keep them here - and yes, I use them)

Book = on book case (though, not technically mine - was sort of given to me in a 'I don't need it back I have other copies' kind of way)

Pin Badges = in box with other, non-meat loaf pin badges - as I can't think what else to do with them! keep forgetting i own them to be truthful

2/3 of a program from 3 bats tour = ex owns 1/3 of it and has custody of said program. I'm not really a great hoarder of memorabilia (as you can see), so sad as it is not to be likely to see it again, he would probably miss it more than I would

3 bats tour poster = last i saw, ex had it. no idea what he's done with it.

tickets & little bits from gigs/tours = in a general keepsakes box (along with other tickets, flyers, meaningful cards/letters etc)

I can't think of anything else that I have...though typing it out it appears I have more than I thought. Photos would be boring because frankly, not only is my collection a little boring but so too would be pictures of where they are stored!

Your ex gets a lot of post coverage...

Sat last night and collated all my ML press cuttings (task avoidence rather than having that much time on my hands lol) and got them all stuck in a big book, gotta love TK Maxx :p They look pretty fab actually, nice to have all the ML history recorded in there

meatloaf-unofficial 12 Nov 2008 21:23

Oh and it suddenly came to me!!!

I have it and so does everyone else and is a main part in our collection - get ready for it - MEMORIES!

Good or bad, great or small... Memories are the most precious thing to have, photos being second are a source of memory, I guess

LucyK! 12 Nov 2008 21:24

And how do you display those...

I prefer then partial lobotomy and display THAT part of the brain...however, it gets tricky after a while

carole 13 Nov 2008 04:08

My pins, badges and necklasses I don't have on display as I wear them, and my To Hell And Back book is on my book case as well. I have some clippings which I have to get around to putting into folders and my tour books are in a pile in the spare room. I am running out of room to put things only living in a 2 bedroom unit.
