Yeah as in 9th of November, not 11th of September when Jay-Z is planning to release a tribute to the 9/11 deaths.

Product Description
Meat Loaf s Bat Out Of Hell is one of the most iconic albums of the seventies. Released in October 1977 it has sold in excess of 40 million copies worldwide. In the UK it is certified 10 x Platinum for more than 3 million sales. This concert from the Stadthalle Offenbach in Germany was filmed in June 1978 for the German Rockpalast TV series and perfectly captures the raw excitement of the original Bat Out Of Hell tour with Meat Loaf dominating the stage and the album s songwriter Jim Steinman contributing heavily. Most of the tracks from the album are featured alongside covers of Johnny B Goode and River Deep, Mountain High . This is a superb film of the original Bat Out Of Hell tour.

Synopsis
Recorded in 1978 for the German TV series Rockpalast, BAT OUT OF HELL sees rock legend Meat Loaf performing tracks off his mega-selling album of the same name. Meat Loaf--real name Marvin Lee Aday--brings all his usual theatrics to belt out such classics as 'Bat Out Of Hell', 'Paradise By The Dashboard Light', 'You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night)', and 'Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad', and treats fans to energetic covers of 'Johnny B Goode' and 'River Deep, Mountain High'.
Tracklisting: 'Great Boleros Of Fire', 'Bat Out Of Hell', 'You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night)', 'All Revved up With No Place To Go', 'Paradise By The Dashboard Light', 'Introducing The Band', 'Johnny B Goode', 'River Deep, Mountain High', 'Johnny B Goode (reprise)', 'Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad', 'All Revved Up With No Place To Go (reprise)'.

I probably would have thought the same thing if I had grown up with that date system, hence I pointed it out for all the American people around here. ;-)
Still at least we can listen to Jay-Z's album for two months....not! ;-)

RSG 25 Aug 2009 19:25

this is awesome! Hope it makes it to Maritimes, Canada!

RadioMaster 25 Aug 2009 20:30

It'll be interesting to see if they did any re editing or remastering on sound/video or if they just release the original tape.

AndrewG 25 Aug 2009 20:35

What like the one with the timer shit on screen? Nah, they will have a better source for this. I'd like a Blu Ray actually, the sound is more intense. But this is still pretty damn cool. :))

AndyK 25 Aug 2009 20:52

Don't forget to click on the amazon link on the forums home page and pre-order it through there you get the dvd, this site gets your support, everyone's a winner

Great!! Now we need a dvd of the Bat 2 tour too.

Dont think the timer would be a problem, I'd rather talking about the bad lighting, there should definitely something be done about that. (if possible)

Wario 25 Aug 2009 21:27

what im praying for is that this is not edited from the timer master. if river deep and johnny b. goode are omitted for copyright reasons so help me god.

But Meat's little sentiment about phil spector before river deep could be getting the axe, as he is now a convicted murderer.

Whats also ironic is the cover potrays meat with a black vest when in fact he wears no such one during the actual show.

he didnt spawn the vest till the DR Tour

I dont think anything specter related will be changed, this footage is over 30 years old and no one tries to make it look like it's something recent.
Also, this is a small release from a small company, nothing that moves the world, so not many people wont care about potention political incorrectness anyway.

AndrewG 25 Aug 2009 21:33

Interesting observations Penguin Loaf.

You might want to do something about your height while you are at it too; that ceiling fan may come in handy after all to chop a few inches off you? ;-)

I found the original to be pretty poorly lighted, I hope they can make it better on dvd.

Wario 26 Aug 2009 21:46

Soundtrack CD ahoy?

RadioMaster 26 Aug 2009 21:57

makes more sense to me than the 3 bats live cd

we have to keep in mind though, that this is far from a major release with lots of marketing and public interest. The main market for this product are we as the hardcore fans.

I can't wait, I hope they release it here in Australia. He must have done that just before coming here, as I saw him on 28 June 78, two days after my 17th birthday, it was a birthday present from my friend.

Woah. you actually saw the 78 tour? Woah! thats awesome!

Do you recall anything he performed besides the usual?

IE: Hot Patootie or Hammerdown :D

loaferman61 27 Aug 2009 20:56

I pre-ordered from the UK through the link to help the site. I don't think my player is region free but I found a code people say works. I am guessing that will do no harm, anyone know for sure? Otherwise I have the dvd shrink program but sometimes it seems to reduce the quality very slightly on full length movies, hopefully this is a short enough show to fit at 100% quality. Might be a better option than messing with my player, but I have months to think about it. I just hope they can boost the lighting somehow from the original.

No, you'll need a Mulit-regional DVD player to get it to work here in the USA.
And just for the record, I was 16 in 1978 ... and didn't even know who Meat was

Jayd 29 Aug 2009 14:49

Not that I expect it with footage so old, but I don't see any Blu-Ray release of this, also would love a Blu-ray release of MSO, since it was done with HD cameras.

Yes they can, as long as you can find the right code :-)
A few years ago I got a small Cyber Home DVD player from Best Buy for $39. I was able to set it to Region 0 and it works like a charm.

Pudding 30 Aug 2009 04:53

Some websites like dvdhacks.co.uk will help on how to convert DVD players to multi-region.

Still looks like it was filmed by candle light to me. I had really hoped they'd have a way to digitally sharpen and brighten the picture some. I know the source was not that great to begin with, but I had hopes.

stuff from play.com usually takes about two weeks until it's over here. Prefer them over amazon though, as most of the cds/dvds/etc are way cheaper and shipping is free (worldwide)

I'm not buying it until someone can confirm the quality of the audio. If it's not improved from the promo clips posted on You Tube then I won't be bothering.

Got my DVD today at german MEDIA MARKT - I'm very satisfied with it. IMO the 2-channel-audio is ok, the picture is much better then the well known b**tleg-DVD.

Complete setlist is included, little interview as bonus. Well, we can be happy with it ... .

Bye from KAI

Got mine from Media Markt too. The audio is very good, I dont hear any wrong "things" (I have just skipped the DVD, yet).
But the video is not that good (compared with other ML concert dvds). I don't know if it is the source material, but in bright sequences, I have horizontal lines/waves. You dont see them good in screenshots;)
http://media.mlxxfc.net/rockpalast.png
Okay I think it is the source, because watching "best of"s from 70 music tv shows, they have the same quality (the source is a tv show "Rockpalast"). So it could be the best possible quality.

All in all, if my memory is not wrong the hits out of hell dvd has the bit better video quality.
But as you might know, I can find always something to critize in quality matters =)

But it is more having an authenic record of a concert! Authenic as: You don't have too much fancy cuts from the director.

samurai7 07 Nov 2009 16:21

concert films from years ago used to get lines on them because of the loud sounds affecting the cameras. Check out the Bad Attitude video. There's nothing can be done about this. I'm assuming that's what you mean, as I don't have the DVD yet.

Sarge 07 Nov 2009 16:46

I've seen those stripes on other concert footage from the 1970s, too. It doesn't bother me, since the the quality of the performance is more important to me than the quality of the picture.

What I really hate are the ugly large age rating logos you now find on DVDs and computer games in Germany.

Compare this

http://www.amazon.de/Meat-Loaf-Live-...7604444&sr=8-2

to the cover of the U.K. version

http://www.amazon.de/Meat-Loaf-Hell-.../ref=pd_cp_d_2

(By the way, I just noticed that the title of the German release differs from the U.K. DVD.)

Ma.Ra 07 Nov 2009 17:11

I'm guessing (without causing offence to German fans) that they changed the title for the uk because unless you know alot about Meat's earlier tours, then Rockpalast doesnt mean very much to you.

And to answer some others about the quality, i think you have to bear in mind when it was recorded and what technology was available. There are some great techniques around now to restore old videos, but they can only do so much. As long as the quality is representative of other videos of that time then i'll be happy with it :-)

Kev 09 Nov 2009 12:00

Is my main concern. I already have this on my hard drive and I think it is pretty good. I'd expect something that I'm paying for to be very good.

In that case, don't bother and instead write an angry letter to Eagle Rock to tell them that the DVD you didn't buy and haven't seen doesn't meet your high standards.

djfierce 09 Nov 2009 20:19

If the aforementioned is the downloadable rockpalast that i cant remember where i got it before (getting old lol) then i thought the quality was pretty shite, in fact it didnt stay on my hard drive longer than it took to watch it, (i will admit it may very well be a different worse version )

Havent ordered the dvd yet, i'm sure i'll get round to it at some point but while this is a nice thing to have and remember the good old days with, i'm not in a mad rush to see it.

Slow, slow, brothers & sisters !

We are talking about TV-recordings from 1978. IMO we can be very happy and satisfied to get such rare concert in best possible quality. If some members of our community don't need it ... so what ?! Everyone may be lucky in his / her own opinion.

I got my copy in the mail today and I'm watching it right now :))
I had never seen it before, and I'm really enjoying it. It's hard to believe that the concert took place over 30 years ago !!

I love it .. and I'm so thankful they decided to officially release it on DVD !

Got my copy today. One word - AMAZING.

I wish I was around then to see that tour. Awesome:-)

Yeah I just got mine too and am watching it right now. I was around then and saw him just after the video was made, so it's nostalgic for me.

USA Version is Missing River Deep and Johnny b. Goode

I pre-ordered the DVD in Sept from Amazon USA. The list of songs advertised included "River Deep, Mountain High" and "Johnny B. Goode" plus reprises of these songs. But the songs are not on the DVD I received. Amazon USA no longer includes a song listing in their advertising. Song listing wasn't included at several other sites offering the DVD. Sears and Barnes and Noble sites included a song listing; River Deep and Johnny B. Goode and the reprises were missing.

I checked Amazon UK. They advertise a UK version which lists all the songs from the Rockpalast performance and a US import with no song listing. The US import is about 40% cheaper.

Only 5 songs on the US version? that's a bit :shit:.

Yep.

Here's the description from Amazon.com.uk :

Like bruiserra already mentioned, they took down the description from Amazon.com. Both DVDs (Amazon.com and Amazon.com.uk) are listed as 105 minutes long, in NTSC format, and produced by the same company ... so now I'm wondering if the set list is the same on both of them :? Maybe they deleted Johhny B Goode and River Deep, Mountain High to make room for the interview :??:

I already got the UK DVD from Amazon. My DVD player is multireigonal.

I think for you poor non multiregional peeps they took out JBG because mabey Chuck Berry wanted it pulled

River Deep was probably axed cause Spector's a convicted Murder in this country.

America sucks sometimes :(

Vickip 15 Nov 2009 19:23

Who knows .. you may be right Warioloaf

Thanks for clarifying that about the UK setlist :-)
I have a multi-regional DVD player, so I ordered a copy from the UK too. Now I'll be able to compare the two to see if anything else is different :-)

Listing of USA Version

Great Boleros of Fire
Bat out of Hell
You Took the Words Right out of my Mouth (Hot Summer Night)
All Revved up with No Place to Go
Paradise by the Dashboard Light
Featuring Karla DeVito
Introducing the Band
Two out of Three Ain't Bad
All Revved up with No Place to Go (Reprise)

Bonus Feature: Interview with Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman

I've watched the entire Rockpalast show over the past two years on Youtube in various segments submitted by Aputey. The best part of the show is the Karla Devito/ Meat Loaf River Deep Duet followed by the Johnny B. Goode Reprise.

Yesterday I ordered the UK version Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell - The Original Tour [DVD] [1978] [NTSC] from Amazon.Co.UK. If you order from Amazon UK, make sure you don't get the US import version.
