Guitar Hero/Rock Band

Been on this site for years, but I think this is the first thread I've actually started! Here goes...

After the recent release (and apparent success) of the video game Rock Band Beatles, I was wondering if anyone (else) thinks Meat Loaf should consider contributing some songs to the Guitar Hero or Rock Band games? And what songs should people sing/drum or play plastic guitar to?

I think there's a chance that it could get meat's music to a potentially new audience and also prove to people who are just familiar with the (especially recent) singles that the man can rock!

I'd like to see Bat (of course), Frying Pan, Bad For Good, Amnesty Is Granted and maybe Life Is A Lemon - maybe live versions since they tend to be heavier.

Am I on my own with this one?

Sarge 14 Sep 2009 20:14

I always thought Meat should be featured in such a game, it would be fun to play. But I think it's not gonna happen, at least not in the near future.

I'd like to add Everything Louder, Monster, Pigs* and If It Ain't Broke for now as well as some 1980s stuff like Bad Attitude and Piece Of The Action.

*There is that excellent guitar solo by Steve Vai, imagine how you cold pose. :D

RSG 15 Sep 2009 01:17

I would buy it. I think a smarter investment is to making it half Meat Loaf music and half another artist's.

AndrewG 15 Sep 2009 02:39

Can't see why they can't at least make a downloadable Meat Loaf trackpack on RB and GH. Bat (full version) and Dead Ringer would work well together and in both of these excellent games. I think a full game is very unlikely. I reckon Bruce Springsteen would have a better chance at that and even he only did a 2 song trackpack for GH to coincide with his album release in January.

For crying out loud 15 Sep 2009 10:21

i always have wondered why, with so many versions released that they've never had a single meat loaf track on any of them. is it a copyright issue?

dukesofhazard 15 Sep 2009 14:06

Apparently Queen is releasing a 'track pack' on Rock band soon - I would love it if Meat could get something like that on there - just 5 or 6 tracks would be fine by me!

I have no idea why there's been no Meat tracks on any of the music games so far though. Wouldn't have thought the rights holders would make much difference. Could just be that Meat is one of the artists that are opposed to those types of games (though I am of the opinion that X factor etc are worse for the music industry than music video games).

Just out of curiousity .. if they wanted to use BOOH, would they contact Jim Steinman since he wrote the song :??:

*originaldancechick 15 Sep 2009 16:40

I think Jim could throw a wobbly if he wasn't asked. I think Dead Ringer for Love could also br included. Luv cx

duke knooby 15 Sep 2009 17:31

i think they're saving booh for the 2010 release of piano hero... they plan to use the extra interest in meats new album to help with promotion ;)

 was only joking

*originaldancechick 15 Sep 2009 17:57

That's interesting news. thanks for the info. Luv cx

suzieq 15 Sep 2009 18:14

I am totally in favor of having a Meat track on either Rock Band or Guitar Hero. I've read the gaming communities blogs (Guitar Hero official and Rock Band official sites). Originally they said there was too much piano to make it work. I don't know if they've revisited it at all since. It's been a while since I emailed my opinions there. But the latest releases of the games did not have any Meat on there. Not even a downloadable type.

I would gladly pay for the downloaded track(s). I don't have a preference of song, but more of a preference of Meat on the games.

Suzieq

The Flying Mouse 15 Sep 2009 19:36

 Think it's odd there isn't any ML in any of these games.
They're hugely popular right now, and although i'm not under any illusion that having a ML track on guitar hero is going to guarentee No 1 singles and albums  it can't do any harm can it?

howlerformeatloaf 15 Sep 2009 21:42

I was just thinking some songs like dead ringer could be used but other songs like BOOH and Paradise, do you think they may be too long for the game? I dont think Meat would want them cut down any but I was just thinking about it and came up with that. But my thinking causes problems alot of time too so what do I know.

Wario 15 Sep 2009 22:15

With stairway to heaven, BOOH and Paradise shouldn't be problematic if length is concerned.

For rock band Took the words is a very drum heavy song :D

suzieq 12 Oct 2009 03:55

Probably a beating a dead horse, but I had a random thought about this topic. With length of song, duet incompatibility, possible popularity (chart influencing) issues and piano formatted song issues...Meat's probability of having one of his past songs applied to GH/RB seems unlikely.

However, does anyone remember an interview with Meat promoting Bat III and he said that with Desmond; Bat III was going to have more guitars than previous Bat II? Then when they were producing they added even more guitars. Ok my point is, this new album/CD, with Meat's horses out of the stables, what are the chances of a guitar heavy song that would warrant a hit on the charts and popular enough to have a downloadable version put on Rock Band/Guitar Hero????

The thoughts that are racing through my head right now is we know (as players of the game) what GH/RB is looking for to make for great fun to play. What if Meat has the formula and he designed a song to be a hit and RB/GH friendly? Everyone wins!

I'm reaching here, but I'm thinking optimistically outside of the box.

RSG 12 Oct 2009 04:11

In one of the most recent tweets, a crazy thrash sounding drum beat was in the background. It is very intense I might add. Something good to play on those plastic electronic FUN instruments. Land Of The Pig would have been great on guitar hero. There's a beat behind the GREAT vocal and guitar nu metal that just makes it all the more rocking!

Good points though SQ, when we hear the new record for the first time. I'm sure it's going to go in all the right places. In our hearts. The charts, it may even have some people runaway with fear. I know some people who still get frightened over TMIL and some of its content.

suzieq 12 Oct 2009 05:01

Yes, I agree with the recent thrash of the drums and the ability to play that on the poor plastic instruments. I also agree with Pigs being a great song to have played. In my eyes, I can see many of Meat's songs on there...problem is, GH/RB may not even know about those songs due to lack of exposure. GH/RB is not an avenue to make a new song popular, it's made to play songs that have been detailed as classics to relive and revive if you will. I just find it unlikely that they will put some of Meat's previous guitar heavy stuff on the games due to the other various criteria that are attractive to the game makers.

On content I've revisited this tweet: http://yttwt.com/52wjz with Randy jammin'. And with a sound like this (although a little Zepplin/Kashmir like at 4-11 sec mark) I can totally see it on GH. If a new song is an instant hit, GH/RB will capitalize on the hit and add it as a downloadable and not miss the boat on a popular song.

TMIL and it's content can be frightening to the love ballad enthusiast. EX: If you are coming out of a random selection on your IPod and you just heard Heaven Can Wait then TMIL comes on, it sorta' catches you off guard. LOL.

1st time I hear the new album/CD I won't be thinking of GH/RB compatibility, that's for sure.

Thanks for listening to my ramblings and random thoughts about this though.

PanicLord 28 Oct 2009 17:02

Would be awesome - although damn hard to sing!

Blackkat13 30 Oct 2009 04:52

I think just playing BOOH would be a hard song to play 9 minutes and all. It was a pain playing lynard skyard on there on easy.

jcmoorehead 24 Mar 2010 19:45

Any chance of seeing Meat songs on Rock Band?

Lo guys, haven't posted a topic on here in ages, browse the forums regularly but rarely post, there is something I wanted to ask/discuss. Does anyone know what the chances are of seeing Meat Loaf songs pop up on the on-line store for the game Rock Band?

I've been a huge fan of the game for quite some time and having discussed it with a few friends we all think Meat would be a perfect fit for the game, especially the songs from Bat 2.

Anyone else share these thoughts?

stretch37 24 Mar 2010 19:48

I was playing rock band 2 yesterday and I swear every few times I play Iwonder why Meat's songs arent on there.

lorenzoduke 24 Mar 2010 20:07

Who knows why he hasn't been included? The multitracks are clearly still available as far back as Bat.

PanicLord 24 Mar 2010 20:44

Because the songs are *!@? hard to sing :) It would be awesome if they were on there though. I have The Beatles Rock Band and it is superb.

Sarahdk23 24 Mar 2010 21:39

Everytime I play guitar hero, I think that it would be great with some Meat songs...it would awesome :-)

dukesofhazard 24 Mar 2010 21:46

I asked this very question a few months ago ;) I'd love to play Meat's songs on Rock Band/Guitar Hero since I'll never be able to in real life. Who knows, now he's appeared on PS3 in the form of the Vidzone videos, maybe there'll be a track pack for Hang Cool Teddy Bear like Guns n Roses & Metallica did with their last albums?

Also Anything For Love is on Singstar on Playstation so maybe there is hope!

A Track pack would be awesome, it wouldn't surprise me actually now you mentioned Guns N Roses (Well Axl Rose and some Paid Musicians :P) and Metallica.

If they did do one I wonder what songs would be in it, a track from HCTB obviously but I wonder if there would be more from the same album or more of a 'Best Of' deal.

Megan 25 Mar 2010 03:16

we have rock band and guitar hero... every time we play it -- i think the same thing.... i would enjoy the game more :) I was hoping RB would have down loads from the PS3 but no luck.

I wonder what Meats thoughts actually are on the games themselves and if he would like to see them have his music on there? I know he's not a fan of downloads it seems but it'd be interesting to hear or see what he has to to say about this sort of thing.

melon 03 Apr 2010 05:49

I would actually go out and buy the console and game just for Meat if he had songs on the game, I don't play playsation games and stuff anymore, I used to all the time though.

robgomm 11 Jul 2010 10:30

Should Meat do a video game?

Just thinking there are so many Rock Band games out there, and one thing that keeps pissing me off is that there are no Meat Loaf songs on any of the Rock Band games. I keep writing to them but they insist they have nothing against putting Meats music on there, but I don't believe them because I know tons of people have requested his songs on there.

So I think he should do his own one, who doesn't want to strum, drum, and sing along to BOOH and the hundreds of other songs he's done? Also it would introduce him to a new market of people including a younger audience, which could only be a good thing.

jcmoorehead 11 Jul 2010 19:42

I think the issue with Meat music not being on the games might be more down to the record label themselves I know sometimes the labels can be a bit dodgy about it.

Personally like you I'd love to see his music in Rock Band, I'm a huge fan of the series. I'm sure the developers must have thought about it and if the label/he isn't already away then I think it might be a good idea for someone to let him know there is actually demand for it and maybe he could get the ball rolling on having some of his songs released on there.

melon 13 Jul 2010 11:52

I don't have any gaming consoles..... mainly due to a lack of time, but if I knew of a game that had Meat's songs on it, I'd be out buying whatever I needed that day.

Even if it involves handing over $300 in one day? That's what a true Loafer would do alright.

I agree though computer consoles are extremely time consuming....I hope what ever he releases comes out on the Xbox360 it's the only one I have.

What I learned last night.

My 12 year old nephew went with me to the show last night and met Meat too. He has learned BOOH on the acoustic guitar. Meat and my nephew had a nice conversation about it.

Then Meat informed him that Guitar Hero won't put BOOH on it because of the numerous chord changes and it's too complicated. So, I learned a little bit in that 5 minute discussion. Of course it was my nephew's moment so I didn't ask about alternate songs....but I suppose until the gaming industry can support BOOH's complicated chord changes, we'll have to take this one off the list for now.

Just thought I'd share,
Suzieq

I didn't even realize there was a Guitar Hero/Rock Band thread until it popped up under new posts. I really must explore further into the archives.

I love both games and it is disappointing to hear BOOH may not appear on a game. I would love to play Pigs or Madness. That would be awesome!!

Best Guitar Hero moment - playing Metallica and Rage Against the Machine

Waiting for - Anthrax, Megadeth, Meat Loaf

robgomm 15 Jul 2010 19:04

That's really sad that Bat won't go on a game, but surely there are plenty of other ones that aren't as complicated that could go on?

Took the words is very simple. In the US its probably meats best known tune other then Paradise

jcmoorehead 15 Jul 2010 22:05

Is that just for Guitar Hero or for Rock Band as well? Just because Rock Band has Dream Theater and Rush in its tracklists and these are two bands that have quite complex music. I appreciate that came from the man himself but I have heard songs on Rock Band that are quite complex if not more so then BOOH.

I think one of the best songs really for Rock Band would be Lemon, it's very guitar driven, got a good riff and great solo's in there. There is also the stuff from HCTB too to consider.

Not sure about Anthrax but there is a considerable amount of Megadeth on Rock Band they have the entire Peace Sells album and Rust In Peace.

Thanks for that. Hopefully then we can hear something about Rock Band then. The Guitar Hero franchise has seriously gone downhill since Harmonix left to make Rock Band and Activison decided to go all one game a year so hopefully we can hear something from the Harmonix side.

I actually did e-mail Harmonix about this, I doubt I'll get a reply but I just wanted some clarification on if a song like Bat would be too complex for them to put into the game.

considering what they're tackling with RB3, I think not. Your supposed to actually be able to learn and play the guitar, drum, keyboard parts to songs in the game, and then pick up a real instrument and play them. Pretty ambitious if you ask me. I cant wait!

You mean the optional pro mode? Yeah I'm quite excited for that, I actually wrote a bit about it on my gaming blog. The idea is that you can buy optional instruments for it one of which is a very nice looking Fender guitar which serves as an actual guitar you can plug into an amp and play and also you can use in game to play along to the actual songs with. Yeah it will teach you how to play the actual instruments, it is really ambitious.

However I don't think it decreases the chances of Bat being in or a part of a release for Rock Band. The tracklist is already boasting Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen and Roundabout by Yes so I don't think Bat would be too complex for the guys from Harmonix.

EDIT: Oh and that was my 500th post, has only take me about 7 years to get it.

meat_loaf2008 16 Jul 2010 12:39

Gratz on the 500th. and having been a musician for years, its nice to see that this may finally inspire more to start playing.

robgomm 16 Jul 2010 22:35

I really want a Meat Loaf rock band game.

jcmoorehead 22 Jul 2010 18:19

Not really related to Meat being in the game but I guess it is a small glimmer of hope that if they add this they may add Meat but they have just announced for Guitar Hero: Warriors Of Rock that the entirety of Rush's 2112 will be in it. The entire 20+ Minute epic.

AndrewG 22 Jul 2010 19:23

Look out for Rock Band 3 released later this year as it has pro mode which with the Fender controller is in fact real guitar playing and there is a keytar too. It sounds amazing. A Meaty song on there would be terrific.

jcmoorehead 22 Jul 2010 20:39

It's not a keytar, It's a keyboard attachment but I believe you can get some sort of attachment to allow it to act as a Keytar

dukesofhazard 22 Jul 2010 23:40

You can use it as both keytar & keyboard - i've seen it in action

Meat Loaf on Rock Band

Hi, this is my first thread so bear that in mind....
Anyways news was leaked yesterday that Paradise by the Dashboard Light will soon be released as a downloadable song for Rock Band 3 (music simulation game).
For those of you who haven't heard of it, it's a rhythm game for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, think sort of dance revolution style interface (hitting the colored notes in sequence) with karaoke elements and using plastic imitation instruments.
Speaking from experience the game is a heck of a lot of fun, perfect for parties. It's got over two thousand songs available in the Rock Band library (available either on disc or via downloads) from The Who to Green Day so there's songs catering for everyones tastes old and new.

The fact that Paradise will soon be available couldn't come at a better time for the game, the latest instalment, Rock Band 3 has introduced the use of a keyboard peripheral and the ability to use harmonies which is absolutely perfect for performing the song as a duet with two mics.

Its absolutely fabulous news that Meat is getting his first treatment to the Rock Band platform which will be sure to introduce a whole new generation to his music and hopefully lead to some more of the mighty Loaf's songs being made available.

Here's the leaked news: http://www.rockbandaide.com/10892/me...xt-week-rumor/

And a link to the Rock Band wiki page for those who may be interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Band

Beyond the valentine's pack (which I will probably get), You can definitely forget any Guitar Hero games/DLC and probably also any further Rock Band games to include Meat Loaf songs now. The Guitar Hero series has been canned completely. The music rhythm games are definitely dying and the era is over.
Rest in Peace. I thought it was all very awesome.

Don't know if it's of interest but Paradise is being made available on the 15th Feb for this game as it's valentines.

It's way past time Meat was on rockband. If it turns out to be a popular download maybe they will do some more.

Yeah the music genre is fading out now, replaced by the motion sensor activated games. People would rather spend their money on one peripheral motion sensor that can be used over multiple games than on one instrument controller that only works with a limited number of games.

Yeah, the next Guitar Hero has been cancelled and the series hasn't been canned completely but it's certainly not positive. DJ Hero has been delayed for a year though so I don't think the genre is going totally but I think it's a time of transition for it.

That said Rock Band is still going strong with it's Downloadable Content the the RBN.

Here's the charting, super fun to play!

jcmoorehead 11 Feb 2011 21:29

Just played through it myself on the Hard difficulty on guitar, was so much fun to play! However it's very very painful too :-P

farmertom 12 Feb 2011 17:47

Looks like activision have totally pulled the plug on guitar hero and any further DLC for this game, so Meat wont be coming to this, they are halting DJ hero as the 2nd one hasnt sold very well at all so looks like Meat wont be on there either (tho i dont think he would ever be anyways!), so the only hope is rock band but its future must be doubtful with the pulling of the other two games!

On a side note we had a talk at uni from one of the people at freestyle games that makes DJ hero the other week, he said that the biggest cost they face is not production but licensing for the songs, I think that could be why meat asnt appeared before now coz his songs are well wrapped up in who owns what with Meat, Jim and different record companies so activision will have been staying well clear of more costs and problems with games that dont really make them money!

AndrewG 13 Feb 2011 01:03

I will probably get Rock Band 3 in a while and then download the pack. Annoyingly it's not compatible with RB2.

What I hate about those games is that you can't really block out certain songs (except for when you are choosing the setlist of course). I was happily playing some RB2 this evening when I was forced to play one of the most awful songs I've ever heard in musical existence: "Chop Suey" by System of a Down. Of course I failed this in Expert at the very last minute and got mad enough to almost chuck the plastic guitar through the window. I can understand some people might like that song (although maybe not ) but I think some of that stuff is such a specific taste that I honestly don't get why they include shit like that.

I think Band Hero came along too late (bought it a few weeks ago) but the song choices in that are much more generic and thus a bit less hectic therefore I think it would appeal to a wider audience instead of Chop Suey and some other mental rock stuff included in RB and GH over the years.

At last, Meat on Rockband

For those of you who have long awaited a Meat track on Rockband, I noticed that Paradise is now available as a downloadable track on Rockband 3. I have yet to purchase Rockband 3 but i suspect that I will very soon.

Take care, x...
