The contract makes it impossible without some major and no doubt expensive arrangements and of course Jim's willingness to go along with it. I suspect people have already paid Jim a tidy sum for the song and they must have plans for it, although I have to wonder if it will ever be heard in a proper version. It seems to be one of those endless "projects" that never seem to materialize.

I should clarify I'm talking about the album, not Meat's career in general - I'm not stupid enough to think he'd throw his arms in the air and give up. Just still sad that Braver Than We Are won't be what it was originally intended to be, which was a lovely concept. And ignoring the contract would be moronic, incredibly shitty way to treat Jim, however good the song may be.

I wonder if it has more to do with the fact that the producers of the BAT musical have some of Steinman's songs under contract for the musical for a set number of years and then the contract expires. All this began in 2005 and perhaps it has a ten year shelf life, contract wise.
I was wondering why the date was pushed back to a 2015 release date. Now it could be that Steinman is working on new songs and thats how long it will take to finish them or perhaps there are songs from the BAT musical that will appear on Meat's album.
From that standpoint it would a brilliant way of showcasing Steinman's songs for the BAT musical if it ever does come to being an actual musical that is performed.

I think it's more to do with Meat's schedule this year, plus possibly the inclusion of more Steinman songs than first anticipated

But on the other hand, perhaps they want to hold something back for themselves.
There are going to be plenty of songs in the musical that have been hits for Meat, so people going to the musical because they like Meat's work are already going to be well attracted.
I think there's mileage in the idea of having some Steinman material that you only get to see/hear is by going to the Bat musical.

Thanks for the information meat. Jokes aside - again what a stupid thread, really.

From what I can gather Meat everyone's REALLY excited about both the new Steinman songs AND the other songs, and are going mad waiting for the album! Maybe that's why there's so much talk and speculation :-)
As for the rumours - who cares?? It's no big deal; there's no drama here. End of the day people will talk (me included), but so what? No one wants to put you down.

8 Jim songs. That's pretty much a whole album's worth. :up:

I really don't care which songs will be on the album.

I'm convinced the new album will be superb! I'm so happy and thankfull that Meat (and Jim and the other writers) will give us a new album. IMO that is the best gift an artist can give his fans. Let's all be grateful that the man we all admire for his art is at 66 still working his ass off to satisfy our souls!

Braver Than We Are (/Erection of the Heart/Going All the Way Is Just the Start/whatever it's called now) has me so psyched, though. I was listening to one of the live versions from the Dream Engine concerts in 2006 last week some time, and I had shivers...and that was done with just piano and vocals, and it's not the greatest quality recording either. I'm dying to hear Meat do it with it's new, less Broadway arrangement :cool:

If you look at pop/rockmusicals in Europe, the people who get the roles are always popsingers. We Will Rock You had nothing to do with rockmusic. Including rehearsed headbanging and rock/metal fingers sign. It was just hilarious to see because it didn't fell right. The only time I saw a rockperson sing in a musical it was Ricky Wilson from the Kaiser Chiefs in War of the Worlds. He was awesome by the way. So be prepared!

I said I saw. I never saw them in a musical. There are more, I know. But they are a minority. ;)

I understand what Meat is saying although I'm not a Bruno fan. I'm sure commercial considerations by the producers or investors might carry some say in wanting someone young and "hip", and we all know Meat has famously said he never wants to be "hip".

However, I must say that in my opinion that song was written for Meat and would be absolutely an epic if he and Jim ever recorded it.

Who's to say Jim has any control over who records it? Once those in charge of the musical have had their way, there's nothing to stop Meat putting out a version anyway.

Bruno Mars is fantastic! His Super Bowl performance would have been much stronger had they not included the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The climax of the performance with Bruno solo mid-field was a moment of musical drama for the ages. The kid can put on a show and has a voice that is phenomenal.

Still nothing could compare to 1987 Meat Loaf singing Body..... no matter how good Bruno is

"Had" to see Bruno Mars as a favor to my wife last year in Düsseldorf/Germany but was well impressed.
Hard to imagine him doing his version of Body though.
