When did you first hear meat loaf? and what was your first impression?

Wow.......erm, i was tiny, my parents always had the Bat album on, i kinda carried on from there, now its me that drives them insane with it. My mum tells me that i use dto scream if she didnt play it in the car.......sounds bout right lol!!

When I found the Storytellers CD sitting on the shelf at the record store. Even though I didn't know who Meat was (I had heard his name before but never listened to any of his music) I bought the CD ... and was hooked as soon as I heard him and Patti singing Paradise :))

I was at the school disco and as our school was posh (yea right!) we had a live band and they played the guitar bit at the beginning of BOOH, I can remember asking my mate what it was they were playing and she told me she had the album and I could borrow it. From then on I was hooked and I soon went out and bought my own copy!

I had my first ever kiss...
It was my best friend, and he had a new album and his favourite song from it on repeat.
So I truly had my first kiss to "Life is a Lemon" (ironic), and have been hooked ever since.

i'll show my age here.1st time i heard ml was in 1978 at my uncles 21st birthday & we were all into 70s rock so booh was played about 10 times ,& paradise at least 6 times i've been a devout follower ever snice keep on rockin,bring on bat lll. :wave: :wave: :yikes:

when i was about 10 years old i think..and really liked it after that..
but not that much as i do now...:D :oops:

I was 15, the summer of '78, and because I lived in a small community, all the teens hung out together, most of the time. So, on the way to a sporting event that summer, the older teens who we traveled with, played BOOH. I remember asking "what the h***, and who the h*** is that?". I'd never heard anything like Meat, before. lol :)) By the end of the summer though... I was completely hooked, and went out and bought my own copy, and have been a very devoted fan ever since. :heart:

I remember as if it were only yesterday. Four years old jammin around the trailer on dad's kick@ss stereo! He would play BOOH, All Revved Up and Paradise.
I remember loving the climax of Paradise the vrooms on Bat and the Sax on All Revved Up. When I matured more I started liking the whole album.
My first mature impression was something like, what an awesome voice and the songs are so lenghty and it something I played alot. And haven't really stopped since.

When paradise was a huge hit in Holland. nov.78/feb79. I was 8 at the time. Was very impressed bout the video.

In about 1993 my Dad bought Hits Out of Hell(He keeps asking where it is now) :-P . I'd heard of Meat Loaf, but was amazed with I saw that Bat Out of Hell was nearly 10 mins long!

Shortly after that Bat2 came out and then I saw him live in Dublin the following year.

When I was six it was at that time that Bat II conquered the world, and Anything For Love was top of the charts. I think even at that age I was impressed by the voice and the lovely melodies, and it was the first song that I knew the full title and artist of, which considering my age and the length of the title is quite an achievement! :lol: All the other songs I "liked" I just knew I liked them, knew nothing about the artist or title. Mam got the album for Christmas that year, and I remember seeing it on top of the video cabinet beside the stereo and thinking "Oh, that looks interesting," but thought no more about it for the next five years until I heard it properly and found that I'd heard it before (How can anyone forget Wasted Youth?! :lol: ).

1978 as a youngster I used to go out cycling on Sunday mornings with my transistor radio strapped to the handlebars. These songs would come on the radio (Two Out Of Three/ You Took The Words etc.) and the lyrics and voice were so powerful and I had never heard anything like it. Bought the album. Hooked ever since!

I was six when my mom played Meat´s record Bad Attiude (My mom likes Meat also) I started to like his music a lot. I loved his voice and it´s still so incredible.. Now I´m full time fan.. :lol:

Must have been 1979 ish. I studied for most of my exams with either Meat Loaf, Tubular Bells (Mike Oldfield), ELO, REO Speedwagon, Rainbow or Queen thumping away in the background! As a result, I found it really hard to concentrate in the actual exams because it was so quiet!!

The Meat Loaf LP was my brother's so I had to 'borrow' it when he wasn't around! I also remember dad moaning about "that bloody noisy racket"!

First heard Meat when i was about 9/10, (17 Now) i had the Bat album on my cd rack and my mum had been playing it a few days earlier. Anyway, i put on the album and the first song is Bat, as we all know and i really didnt like it, I thought it was too long and i just couldnt get in to it, So i skipped a few and the first song i really got in to was Heaven Can Wait, that was the song that broke me in to the whole Meat Loaf/Steinman thing, and now i am hooked!!

28 years ago...I was 9 and really wanted the album because it had such an awesome cover. At the time, my fave album (yes I said ALBUM...not CD) was "Hotter Than Hell' by KISS (STILL one of my faves btw)...so maybe I was keeping with the whole 'Hell' theme I dunno. But I do know this...from the opening note of BAT...I was hooked! And have been ever since!

It was 1987...I was barely seventeen...okay, I was actually on the far side of seventeen, nearly 18...and my first real boyfriend introduced me to the Bat Out of Hell album. The boyfriend turned out to be a horrid, evil man but my love of Meat has stayed with me ever since. I'll never forget convincing the DJ at our high school senior prom (formal dance) to play Paradise- that was the highlight of the night!

:lol: I grew up listening to David Cassidy and Bobby Sherman .... then I got hooked on Barry Manilow, Weird Al Yankovic and Ray Stevens. I still listen to Weird Al (I finally saw him for the first time in concert last year and he's definitely Weird :lmao:) and Ray Stevens but now I'm totally hooked on Meat :))

David Cassidy was my teen idol as well :-) along with David Essex, but he's from the UK so you probably wont have heard of him lol.

That's great about David Cassidy :-) I saw him in concert a couple of years ago and he's still great :)) You're rignt, I've never heard of David Essex.

Yes, The Streak is one of Ray Stevens' biggest hits. He actually started as a Gospel singer and has a great voice .. but now he does a lot of music comedy songs. I would just love to see him live :))

I still have all David Cassidys LP's :D At the RNRHOF they had a display of teen idols. Meat wasn't there lol, but David Cassidy was. Not David Essex though lol. He was big here.

Only song I'vr heard of Ray Stevens was The Streak.

You didn't ever hear one Meat song growing up? Even though you weren't a fan as such then? I just find it really wierd that anyone could not have done lol. Is this pretty normal in the US? Cause I'm sure that here nearly everyone has heard of Meat whether they like him or not.

I first heard Meat when I was about three, I figured out how to work my Mum's tape player. Pressed play and the orchestral section of FCOL came blasting out of the speakers ( having played with volume knob! ) and it frightened me half to death! That experience told me never to play with the tape that had the really long name in blue writing on....

...and I didn't! Until 1993 when I was 7 and Anything For Love came out!!! And the rest, as they say, is history!

I remember when I was eight and BatII was released, what first got me interested was the cover; of the man on the motor bike flying into the giant Bat and then I saw Meat on Alive and Kicking, I really liked Anything for Love but I was probably too young to get into music, then when WTTN was released I saw the Not A Dry Eye In The House music video and was really impressed by the song but I still didn't properly get into Meat until I was around 14 when I borrowed a friends Bat II: picture show video- six years later I've still got it. It was from then on that I was and still am a huge Meat Loaf fan- I still get chills when I'm in a night club and a Meat song comes on (which is really unusual) or a bar with a juke box and I put Bat on over and over again much to my friends dismay.

No .. believe it or not, I didn't :) Guess you could say I lived a sheltered music life :| While I was growing up I spent most of the time listening to my own casette tapes and 45 records (during the olden days before CDs ... :-) ) and rarely listened to the radio. So to be honest with you, I have no idea if they played Meat's music or not ... if they did, I never really paid attention. :roll:

But now that I'm a fan, I catch myself listening to the radio more at home and our store .... and I get the biggest kick out of hearing them play Paradise and Anything For Love.

i remember being 7 or 8 in the early 90's and puting on my dads hits out of hell video, i just watched it over and over for hours because i liked it so much. since then i have never looked back!!

It is very much that way in America. My mom absolutely cannot stand Meat Loaf whatsoever and can remember Meat Loaf in the media back in the 70's. Further, I think it was virtually impossible to consume any popular media during the BOOH 2 era without being exposed to Meat Loaf's music. Heck, they even played many of the tracks as backing music for 90210!

America is very Meat Loaf starved, at least the Midwest is. We simply cannot get enough of his music and shows!

Even though I "grew up" (hmmm did I really... ?) in the 70's and listened to rock stations out of Detroit, when my bro bought me BOOH as a xmas gift in '77, he did it as a joke! Never thinking I would actually luv the music, and still do, almost 30 years down the road. TOOT and BOOH were played the most on radio, and I think the highlight of my teenage years was hearing Meat play at Pine Knob in the summer of '78! When I moved to Holland in the fall of '78, taking along my fave LP, no one had ever heard of Meat! Two months later Paradise was no.1 here and no one has been able to change my luv for his music since! Not even my ex, who tried his hardest! Some people just don't understand what Meat is all about! And to this day, no band has stole his no.1 place, and probably never will! Just my 2 cents worth!

i was about 5 yrs old my dad had BOOH thats the first time i heard him, i only got into meat properly when anything for love came out

I first heard Meat Laof last christmas when I was 14:oops: . It was my father's wish to have the new dvd, so I bought it for him although I thought it would be some of the old shit he hears always:roll: . But now I know that it was more a present for me than for my father:).

Not sure when i first heard Meat but my earliest memories are of my dad always playing his music in the car wherever we went.He bought all of his albums at the time from the local car boot and i remember him being really mad at me cos i liked 'em so much i borrowed them ;) but didn't really know how to work the hi-fi so i ended up chewing half the tapes up :oops:

I was about 6-7 and IWDAFL had just come out-and I think I saw the video on Top of the Pops or similar and I loved it-I sat right up close to the telly! Anyway-I remembered his name and the following week I saw that he was appearing on TOTP2-it was objects in the rear view mirror. Then my mum dug out her old LP collection and put Bat on for me-and I was a Loafer from then on. I've seen him 3 times now, seen a tribute act and recruited my neighbours and flatmates to the world of Loafdom.

I still cant convince my boyfriend though!

Since 1993, when I heard "I'd do anything..." and "rock'n'roll dreams", y "felt in love" with Meat Loaf.

It was 20 years ago when i was 16 years of age and in the back of my boyfriends car ( i shall not go into the reason why i was in the back of the car) when i heard you took the words right out of my mouth, it blew me away, thought it was the best song i had every heard, have been a fan every since.

Sometime in '92, I found the Hits out of Hell tape in the car.. i found out it belonged to my dad's boss... and upon hearing the tape, i got totally blown off by every song. I even exchanged the tape with someone in school for a mega death tape for just one week and when the others heard it... I was a class hero.
I've been a fan ever since.

Great thread. I remember about 18 years ago, listening to a DJ called, "Ceasar The Boogie Man" late at night on a local Kent radio station called, "Invicta FM" and he played, "Two Out Of Three", I fell in love with the song there and then and vowed to make it my mission to look into this singer called, "Meat Loaf" first thing in the morning! And I did ... and never looked back :)

I had one of those rock compilation albums with a bit of everything on, and the first song on the first record was Took The Words... I loved it, would sing along (very badly) at every opportunity, and finally decided a couple of months later that I should get BOOH - I think I was about 15 at the time. Went through a very quiet patch for a few years, having the album on vinyl and no record player, but have recently got back into Loaf in a BIG way, and saw him at Chatsworth in July - a fantastic evening, in more ways than one! ;)

I listen to Invicta too! They hardly ever play any Meat but I was impressed with their advertising for the Leeds Castle concert.

I don't actually remember the first time I heard anything by Meat, 'cause I've been listening to his music for as long as I remember! I know I loved singing along in the car when I was about 5 years old :D

I first heard Meat when I'd Lie for you was released as a single, wow that song blew my mind. If he was on Top of the tops or anything I HAD to watch and I was instantly mezmorised. I got WTTN for Christmas and remember playing it constantly, I then went and bought 3 more Meat albulms all at once :D . I was about 13 years old then and have been a dedicated (obssesive?!) loafer ever since. :D

I first heard Bonnie Tylers 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' about 3 years ago. I then went out to buy the song because I loved it so much. The only CD i could find with the song on it was 'Heaven and Hell' which was a mixture of Bonnie Tyler and Meat Loaf songs. The second I put it on I was addicted to Meat Loaf. I loved 'BOOH' and 'Two out of three aint bad'. It wasn't until about three months after hearing the 'Heaven and Hell' CD that I realised most of the songs on there were cut down. This is what urged me to get more involved with Meat Loaf's music and I have been on obsessive fan ever since.

I was 7 turning 8 in 1978 when I first heard BOOH. I have loved it ever since :D

I was 13 (1977) & was doing my homework in my bedroom with the radio on - BOOH was played.

BOOH was one of the first "Records" I brought. It was a red one - but then my brother took it & lost it :twisted: BUT before I lost it - I used to play it load & *iss off my step dad ;) ;)

I've never looked back since

The very first time I heard Meat sing was in 2001 when I saw The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I remember I liked his performance as Eddie, but I was about 12 years old and already going through a little shock - Tim Curry wearing a makeup, a corset and fishnet stockins!!! :wave:
Then last summer, my best friend played me the RHPS-soundtrack and told me to watch the movie again, and I did.
And when I saw Meat perform Hot Patootie - my God, I loved it!!! :heart: :heart: :heart:
It was not only the song that caught me, but the way he sang it. I thought, my God, this is great, this is amazing - and the next day, I walked to the local music library to loan The Bat Out Of Hell -cd...

And the rest is history.;-)

I was one of those fans from the Welcome To The Neighbourhood/Born To Rock era. I was four coming on five had already loved watching MTV at the time. When I saw the video for I'd Lie For You, I was extremely hooked on Meat Loaf. My Dad brought the cassete tape of the WTTN Album and I also went on to see Live In The Neighbourhood when it aired on VH1. I went off Meat for a few years in 1997 because I was too young to understand what the songs meant. However, I became hooked on Meat's powerful music once again in 2002 when I decided I would just listen to the Greatest Hits CD. Along the road I had been privileged enough to see Meat Loaf in concert three times (once in 2003, twice in 2005) the latter two I never thought I would see. Anyway, it's ten years in the making of me being a Meat Loaf fan and I'm definatly looking foward to the horizon of Bat Out Of Hell III: Last At Bat.
