Funeral Songs

Found this on the BBC site.

JanT 19 Aug 2006 18:30

I think I would like Disco Duck - Rick Dees and his cast of Idiots to be played as my coffin went through the curtains and I would like everyone to waddle out the door past the vicar when the curtains closed. I'd be gone but certainly not forgotten. :yay:

RadioMaster 19 Aug 2006 20:12

I kinda wondered that Highway to hell made #3!
Imagine the reverends reaction to that!

mszee 19 Aug 2006 22:13

My funeral song is going to be...Blind Before I Stop...

Chris 19 Aug 2006 22:18

If i die and I am cremated then i want Johnny Cash "ring of fire" as i slip through the curtain.

One of my friends has the best idea. She works in film and knows loads of special effects guys so she is having a regular funeral with a big bouquet of flowers on the coffin and her final song will be bat out of hell.

As Meat sings "the last thing I see is my heart, still beating, breaking out of my body adn flying away...." The flowers will explode to reveal an animatronic heart hurtling up to the top of the church!

:lmao:

MeatGrl1 19 Aug 2006 22:50

I'd want Honkey Tonk Angel by Elvis Presley!

Pudding 20 Aug 2006 02:40

Good choice. At what point in the funeral would you like it played?

Pud

samurai7 20 Aug 2006 04:54

I want 'Going Underground' by The Jam.

Skeleton 21 Aug 2006 10:42

In my own funeral I would like to hear Meatīs Where Angels Sing

LucyK! 21 Aug 2006 11:21

I want Rock and Roll Dreams at mine

AndyK 21 Aug 2006 11:27

I'm not having a funeral ... I'm going to live forever, or at least die trying :))

Deb 21 Aug 2006 11:29

Richie Sambora's - The Answer and Father Time which will be sang by my very dear freind who's the Richie singer in the best Bon Jovi tribute band. He thinks i'm never going to die and that he wont have to do it, but he will  and while I'm at it I may get Steve Steinman to sing Bat out of Hell as well lol

RadioMaster 21 Aug 2006 11:31

Definitely Tears in Heaven

Jayd 21 Aug 2006 11:32

I want Heaven Can Wait, even though it won't be waiting much longer. :D

LucyK! 21 Aug 2006 11:33

Tears In Heaven was sang at my friend's funeral and that was extremely moving, I just think some songs are too predictable for funerals...I'd like to think at mine they'll play R&R Dreams and everyone will go out with a smile!

Ageing Bat 21 Aug 2006 15:09

I still can't make my mind up for when the final curtain falls as my coffin glides it's way to the furnace...... it's either Bat out of Hell, or Out of the Frying Pan.

And I only want flowers at my funeral from people who were bothered to buy them for me when I was alive.

LucyK! 21 Aug 2006 15:14

I don't want flowers, I'll have some pink lilies to go with me but I'd rather the money go to a charity I choose

LOL!! Brilliant.:lawl: :lawl:

Ageing Bat 21 Aug 2006 15:39

I'm serious (for once!). Those who know me well really wouldn't be surprised by my choice..... anyone shocked or offended by my choice wouldn't really be there to pay their final respects, would they?

I rather like the idea of my kids going up in a hot air balloon and tipping my ashes over the side above my house too! Or being fired out of a firework. Or having my ashes made into a diamond. The jury's still out on deciding that bit.

Eddie's Teddy 21 Aug 2006 15:57

You may well be serious AB, but it still made me laugh.:D

mszee 21 Aug 2006 17:16

Reading this thread just made me want to live...

Iīm shocked myself, which way this thread went!
I just wanted to talk about the fact that people play songs like Highway to Hell or Always look on the bright side of life at their Funeral...and now it became nearly a suicide thread:shock::lmao:

Chris 21 Aug 2006 20:20

I want quite a few songs played at my funeral.

Definitely Garth brooks singing The Dance - Video
Mainly because it is a sad song. You can forget a lot of this happy clappy stuff, at my funeral I want floods of tears adn weeping women dressed in black hurling themselves on the coffin

Purely because I like these songs:

Keith urban - Days Go By - Video

Dolly Parton - I Will Always Love You -
Video

Cliff Richard - Wired For Sound - Video

Everyone is to sing along to Alan jackson & Jimmy Buffett singing Five o clock somewhere - Video

And just to finish on ahappy note, everyone is to leave the service doing the full dance and singing along to one of the greatest songs ever - Morecambe & Wise - Bring Me Sunshine - no video of that but i a sure ou all know the dance with the waving hands!!!

I am confused...you want a lot of weeping women in black throwing themselves at your coffin while doing a happy dance and a song...sounds like an Indian movie to me??? :wtf:

cool thread

Heli 22 Dec 2008 01:19

I love talking about funeral songs etc. I think they're very moving ceremonies and although sad a great way to celebrate peoples lives.

Since 2005 i've said that two songs I want playing at my funeral are Bad Company's "Seagull" and Brian May's "Last Horizon" (the live version I saw in Manchester 2005). Both so so beautiful.

But i've always said that i'd rather have everyone sit and listen to a collection of my favourite music than have someone just talk about me. lol I'd happily make a lovely compliation medly for the occasion ;)

For crying out loud 22 Dec 2008 01:41

my plans to have; if im cremated "burn baby burn" or "great balls of fire" but if im buried its gotta be "going under". i also want "going home" and "time warp" from rocky horror, it appeals to my sense of humour, a church full of people at a funeral doing the time warp!!! like my boyfriend just said cant spell funeral without fun!

Wario 22 Dec 2008 11:25

My funeral song would probably be some sort of sad song

~Helen~ 22 Dec 2008 17:13

Is it really bad that I don't really mind, seeing as I'll by then be dead...at least hopefully at my funeral I'll be dead (worst nightmare is being presumed dead when I'm not, and being put in a wooden box and buried...argh!). My mother is quite keen she wants a gospel choir at her funeral...but I don't know for me - whatever those who loved & cared about me want will be fine for me, seeing as it's them has to sit through the funeral...it would be maybe a little harsh to inflict something particularly sad on them...so whatever cheers them up (unless they're cheering already, in which case bring on the sad song! ;))

Spider 27 Dec 2008 21:53

Haven't decided, but the best song I've ever heard at any funeral was one of my son's friends last month: they took him out of the church with "Not a dry eye in the house" ... and needless to say, there wasn't one!!! I think that was brilliant!!!

Slightly off topic since there's no song involved, but my mate Lynda is in the local amateur dramatics group, and at her funeral she wants to arrange for the coffin to go through the curtains, for them to close behind her, then re-open, and the coffin to come back out for an encore... I quite like the idea of that one...

The Flying Mouse 28 Dec 2008 14:46

 Wouldn't recomend that one myself :bleh:

I believe one of the most upsetting moments on the day of a cremation is when the curtains finally close behind the coffin.
Hey, it's her funeral (dum dum dum dum tsh, thank you, i'm here all week  ) but I personally doubt the wisdom of putting her family and friends through that twice

For me, the last song has got to be Bat, the Storytellers version.
Not only is it the song of my life, I love what Meat says at the end of the song, and it's basically what i'd like to say to everyone if I was there 8)

Wario 28 Dec 2008 23:26

Actually I told my mo mIf i'm to die an unusual death i want my ashes spread in RJ's living room and my figure nails donated to McDonalds, as they need more mcnugget filler.

The song of my choice would be "Masculine" in hopes that when i reach heaven I'd be a sexy stud muffin.

Or if I go to hell, the demons will fear me as I will have a six pack and muscles the size of beach balls.

I also arranged with Andy that when I die everyone will be banned from the forum for two months in my honor :D

You have to know her and what she's like in life to understand, personally I think it'd be perfect for her, and I suspect her family would too!

 Fraid not.
We're going to hold a poll instead

sexyeyes_jo 29 Dec 2008 13:18

i want two songs played at my funeral i want bat out of hell and its my life by bon jovi it would have been living on a prayer but i decided to change my mind

allrevvedup 29 Dec 2008 14:06

I know my Dad has always wanted You'll Never Walk Alone played at his funeral.

I'm kind of torn by it because in some ways i wouldn't want anything and would just want it to be something of a happier occasion ("Thank christ he's gone" and some might want to open the coffin and check)

Other then that I think The End by the Doors (minus the "Father I want to...") and Two Steps Behind by Def Leppard

rabblerouser 29 Dec 2008 14:47

Angels Sing for the curtian and music that desribes me and my life. Still working on which ones are me and hoefully there is still plenty of time to dither but I want people to remember good times.

Not planning to have a funeral at the mo...but if i do i might well have Where Angels Sing. I love it. And Surf's Up and Frying Pan aren't quite right for the occasion maybe!

mszee 08 Jan 2009 19:30

I would say...currently it's...

Who Wants To Live Forever
