What is the diffenece between SVCD and VCD
 

Ok I got a dvd/vhs playier bout a week ago at walmart and I found the same one on ebay and this is it http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Philips-DVP3...QQcmdZViewItem but it say's it play's SVCD. I am looking at a dvd/vcd from a seller from Austraila. The dvd is region 1 which is my region code. My question and this is where I get lost is this Can it be playied in my dvd playier since it is a VCD/DVD? or do I have to get a VCD playier?
