Blu Ray Good or Bad?

Blu-ray is excellent quality and would love to see the new London show on this format, would also like MSO on Blu-ray also. Seeing Meat in HD would be like the next best thing to seeing him live. :D

blu ray is crap, (in my opinion) would love to see more stuff released in any format though

A disc that size with a full capability of holding 700gb of data eventually, more than most home computers is hardly crap, neither is the quality of HD content, but each to their own. But I agree more Meaty stuff in any format except VHS.

(remember the 3do?? the console more powerful than most home pc's?? course not, as the vastly inferior psx was marketed better, supported better, and was much cheaper, because of that consoles (and technology) have been held back.. blu ray is the new psx, an inferior product)

Its the name of a next-generation optical disc format, Basically allows you to store more on a disc than say an average DVD. Uses a blue laser to read the disc, Hence blu-Ray

Blu-ray is the next generation of optical media has mentioned using a blue laser instead of a red one. As this laser is thinner, it can read more information on a disc which at present can hold 50gb of data, enough for High Definition Content. A 250gb disc has now been produced and available (although expensive at present) and also a 750gb disc is being produced by TDK at the moment. It's rival is HD-DVD which has a present capacity of 29gb although a 50gb is on the horizon I believe. And just to say Blu-ray is not at all crap. It's quality against HD-DVD was something of speculation at first because it was using the standard MPEG-2 standard , but is now switching to the VC-1 codec, just like HD-DVD, and can hold more info than HD-DVD. Both formats are pretty impressive but Blu-ray will win the day. And any of Meat's stuff on this format will be superb. :D

Ahhhh, a blue laser instead of a red one that should do the trick :shock: A bit like Luke Skywalker having a blue light sabre that's better than Darths red one, can't wait for green ray then, cos that was Yoda's ;)

Pud! think back to your physics for beginners class! Why might the use of a blue/violet laser instead of red mean more data is able to be stored on media that is of the same physical dimensions??

I merely don't support it as I have a massize DVD collection now and if we update after only a few years to a new technology that means my money's been wasted. Hate that they've got thse Blu-rays and HD's now!!!!

I thought that about CDs way back too! Sadly we can't stop the march of technology ...

Yes I see your point, however it was a gradual shift between cassettes and CD's and the same with VHS and DVD's but HDDVD's and BlueRay just seemed to pop out of no-where to destroy the DVD market... Well they haven't yet but you know its inevitable unfortunatly :P

d-vhs, we forgot to mention it, what was it? 1100 lines resolution or something mad.. happy to wait for something new thats actually any good...

Yeah the sad thing is it is called progress which mean soon I'll have to get a HD TV cause mine will be out dated even thought it's 4 years old. I hate change cause you get a hard to find movie on one format then now you got to wait for it to be on another format which will be more money. At times the future ain't what it use to be still waiting for my flying car............. LOL
