NYC Trip, please I need help
 

I do hope someone can help me here. I am hoping to visit NYC in October and have cheap flights available £320.00 with BA and £262 with Virgin and airmiles (although this Virgin is from Gatwick, I would prefer Manchester), but I can't seem to find a decent price of accomodation. I don't want anything fancy, just as a base, although not too far from Central park. Now I know some from here have been to NYC, especially to see Meat, so I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction, and help would be appreciated. :D

What sort of price? I usually stay at the Park Central which is between Central Park (3 blocks away) and Times Square.

Yes, to know price would be good...also Central Park stretches for miles...where about near Central Park would you like to be?

Central Park begins around 59th Street and goes up to around 110th Street...

Also, not sure about post above since Times Square is on 42nd Street and stretches to about 44th-45th street so it is more like about 15 blocks between the entrance to Central Park and Times Square.

However, either way, it is within the walking distance.

Not what I said. I said the hotel was 3 blocks from Central Park.

I work in Manhattan, and have to get a hotel room often for the President of the company I work for, who lives in PA. Let us know the price range you need, and that will help tremendously in finding a place for you. And as we often discover, hotel rooms fill up quickly at times - last week, the President couldn't spend the night because all of his 'favorite' hotels (price range he will use) were full up to the top.

Ginny, maybe it would be helpful if you list range of prices that you know of. As far as I know most decent hotels in NYC would be over $100 a night but I am no expert in the hotels since I seldom use them...the last one was used a few years ago and it was $140 per night which is as of today is $350 a night.

Zina is right, Jayd. A half-way decent hotel in Manhattan nowadays is well over $100 per night, unless you can get a deal on one of the online price sites, like hotels.com and priceline.com, etc.
I just ran a week of dates in October in a hotel search. Came up with mostly $300, but several - Hotel 17 in the Village had $125 listed; Howard Johnson in Queens - $115; and a West Side Inn & Hostel (shared bathroom, but has a/c and internet!) is $92. You can find decent places in the $200+ range, but the average is over $300. It isn't cheap to stay in Manhattan. This is looking at sites that are not hotels.com or priceline.com or any of the other discount sites. Those might be better.

I did a recent search too for another member of this forum and found nothing under $100 but hostels.

In terms of hostels, as I recall correctly, Big Apple Hostel came up to be a winner all around...

Well, if you take a central located decent hotel in London...and convert pounds into dollars...don't think you will come up with that much of a difference...

I agree seems very expensive. I have a budget of £1200 for flights and accom for two. My best price for flights now is £306 each. So that leaves about £600 for accomodation. :D

Did you check out Big Apple Hostel or hostels are out?

Another option would be looking in North Jersey - Secaucus, Jersey City and Hoboken. Those are about 15-20 minutes away from Times Square and definitely are less expensive. There should also be a public transportation if you want to inquire from the hotel.

Downtown Manhattan like Soho, Chelsea and Village are lovely too and hotels are going to be less expensive there.

But all depends on how many nights you're staying really...

Wow, just got an amazing deal, Bedford Hotel plus flights with BA £650 for 2. How good is that, and leaves me with more spending money too. Hope this Bedford Hotel is ok, even though it's only a place to sleep, don't want it too grotty, but really can't complain with that price. :D

Sounds like you got a good deal there. End of the day you only need a bed in New York. And from experience you don't really need a bed, just a stretch of floor in a hotel room is good enough if you party hard enough while you're there!

I would think that if you've got the hotel through a BA deal, they are less likely to be associated with grotty hotels than just Googling and hoping!

The hotel actually looks good. Not next dooe to Central Park, I don't think, but looks great. This is the address, not been to NYC before so not sure how all these numbered streets work :?.

Pretty close to Times Squre though...Must be somewhere between Madison and Lexington...which is East side which is pretty nice in that area...

Times Square is 42nd and Broadway...so about...3-4 blocks - not bad...and from there Central Park is within walking distance too...

No shite...and with amount of alchohol...they do have to stumble a lot in the dark...lucky you they found what they were looking for...:lol:
