Paul Newman dies at 83
Paul Newman, the legendary actor whose steely blue eyes, good-humored charm and advocacy of worthy causes made him one of the most renowned figures in American arts, has died of cancer at his home in Westport, Connecticut. He was 83.
He died Friday, according to spokeswoman Marni Tomljanovic. Newman attained stardom in the 1950s and never lost the movie-star aura, appearing in such classic films as "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," "Exodus," "The Hustler," "Cool Hand Luke," "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," "The Sting" and "The Verdict." He finally won an Oscar in 1986 -- on his eighth try -- for "The Color of Money," a sequel to "The Hustler." He later received two more Oscar nominations. Among his other awards was the Motion Picture Academy's Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. RIP, Paul...we shall miss you... |

This great actor plastered his face all over salad dressings and other foods to contribute all proceeds to charity...set up so many camps for sick children to go to free of charge...and the list goes on...just read this... http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Movi...ead/index.html |
RIP Reggie Dunlop. :(

Very sad news, it was always rumoured that he had cancer.
I always liked Cool Hand Luke and Slapshot...and more recently a great one called where the money is. Definitely a loss |
Have just seen this news, very sad to see...
|
Very sad, but unfortunately we are all going that way some day. At least he got to live his life! My friend´s cousin died this wednesday in a car accident - he was only 27!

Haven't had any news on today so this is first I'd heard, very very sad, great man of which who's like we're not likely to see again.

r i p paul -- sad loss
|
Great actor, absolutely love The Colour of Money. Did great stuff for charity.
Rest in peace. |
This is sad news, but not a surprise with the rumors and pics from last spring, along with his age.
His charity work was as well known as his acting credits. He obviously loved life, and lived a very good one. He did as he wanted, but also gave back so much to so many. RIP; and deepest sympathy to Joanne Woodward Newman and his 5 surviving children and other family. It is true - we won't see someone like him again. |
I am going out to buy Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid on DVD as a permanent reminder of him in his prime. It is probably my favorite movie of all time, and definitely it is the one I have seen more than any other, I think at the last count it was 14.
Be happy Paul with the rest of your mates in the Hole in the Wall Gang. :( |
Sad sad news. RIP Paul.
|
That's another of the greats gone, but what a legacy he leaves behind. My Prayers are with Joanne and the children. he will be missed. I loved Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, but my 2 favourites have to be Towering Inferno and The Sting.
