I know Rick is fabulous..but i think Meat just pips him to first place. Sorry if that disappoints you Rick fans!:roll:

Thanks for posting the link, they didn't have Darren Hayes on the list, so I put him in the other box. There was a lot of people not on there, no John Farnham and many others.

Carole

:yikes: They missed ELVIS PRESLEY from the list, that is a crime... So I added him  !! Not much thought gone in on that list and very unorganised, I agree !!

Personally I think Elvis is over rated. I dont think his voice was that great. Jail house Rock was decent but the covers outweigh the original.

MeatGrl1 07 Dec 2008 05:03

As someone who has been a fan since a child I find that offensive but then your entitled to your opinion...

Elvis has been with me through some of my worst times in life, not that I'm going to go through all that now but all I will say he has a special place in my heart... I just love the guy to peices.

RadioMaster 07 Dec 2008 13:01

geez...

Battybarb 07 Dec 2008 13:06

i dont wanna start a riot or anything, this is just my opinion, but i dont think you can say Elvis was over rated under any circumstances...

allrevvedup 07 Dec 2008 13:12

tis opinion...but then again, have a look at the majority of artists and they all take something from Elvis.

Meat's performances that are all around youtube from the late 70's early 80's (maybe it's just the german show i'm thinking of) of read em and weep and two out of three are very Elvis like with the backing singers etc.

I'm not sure Elvis ever changed his shirt on stage and drank a half bottle of something, but then interpretations can be different!

The Flying Mouse 07 Dec 2008 13:42

 This thread is going a little wider than Meat and is more discussion on music in general.

With that in mind, please remember that everyone has their own opinions and they are fully entitled to express them.

You are allowed to like or dislike anyone you want.

There's no need to be offended if someone does not like a particular artist or feels that they are over rated.
If you want to read only agreeable comments about an artist, go to a forum dedicated to that artist and leave this thread alone.

I agree with Mike.
Even if you don't like Elvis or The Beatles or The Rolling Stones, the chances are the artists you DO like were heavilly influenced by them.

Alice Cooper says songs these days are low standard because bands these days "forgot to listen to The Beatles".

I am not Elvis fan...

BUT...with this said...Elvis was of MAJOR importance to American music...he was VERY important in bridging the gap between African American music and White America...this is not just being a singer or popular movie star...this is HISTORY in the making...

Chris, you need to hone up on your American music history a bit...

Yup he was a ground breaker, but I just can never get into any of his songs.

I respect him for making music what it is today but not for his music in general

RadioMaster 08 Dec 2008 21:29

I think for his time he was definitely groundbreaking and extraordinary, but compared to other songs and artists from the last fifty years most of his songs appear outdated, and (musically) mediocre.

That said, like it is with most icons of pop history, there's at least one song you've gotta like, as his style was so varying.

To me In the Ghetto, is the song I'd rather quite high, and way above all the other stuff he did. But than again that's not a classical Elvis tune, but the try of making a comeback in the late 60s

mszee 08 Dec 2008 21:33

Point missed by a mile...dunno if you can find Pat Boone's Tooty Fruity and maybe then you can figure out what I am talking about...

RadioMaster 08 Dec 2008 21:56

alright sorry lol
