Your Aboslute Favourite Meat Loaf Song And Why?

Okay so this has been done before I know but what I am asking from all you wonderful people is what your favourite Meat Loaf song whether it be a live version, recorded, single, remixed, or whatever.

There are no wrong answers here, just in the opinions of others. I also wish to discuss how it makes us feel when we listen to it and when was the first time we ever heard it. Then finally why do you think that song makes you feel the way you do. This is a Meat Loaf forum so I think its time we get to the heart and soul as to why we love his music.

Also please if you must post at maximum of two songs for those who cannot decide on just one.

Well with the that done with I will get down to my absolute favourite Meat Loaf song is "Objects From The Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are" the recorded version from Bat 2.

The first time I heard this song was when I was 19, and I was mostly listening to Bad Attitude, Bat Out Of Hell, and Dead Ringer. I barely listened to Bat 2 and the first time I listened through the album I liked it and I kind of tossed of Objects In The Rear View Mirror cause it was too long and didn't have any loud rocking solo's or the lyric "you can shove it up your ass".

However one time in the car I had a chance to really listen to it since I just popped it in and as if for the first time I listened to the part about the father abuse. Then I remembered the way my father abused me in ways I care not to mention. In any case when I heard that I was tearing up and getting kind of upset as if it reminded me of the pain of those memories.

Finally I understood metaphor of the song, I haven't seen my father for many many years yet those memories were as fresh as they were yesterday. The song made me feel a little more secure in myself cause it let me know that such events seem as fresh as if they just happened but life is too short to focus on the bad things cause there is always so much to look forward to.

I listened to that song over and over again during that ride and it has become my all time favourite. Cause it was the only Meat song or any song that had opened up my soul and makes me feel like everything is going to be alright. It is beyond any form of expression what that song has done for me and even today I still regard it above all other songs my aboslute favourite song, ballad, Meat song.

I am going to have to pick two songs.

"For Crying Out Loud". I can remember the first time I heard this song I must have played it about 3 or 4 times in a row. I think it is one of the best love songs out there. This song is probably one of the most intense songs I have heard and it is all in the passion behind Meat's voice. When you hear this song you are on an emotional rollercoaster. You feel pain/loss/happiness all in one 8 minute period. Most songs by any performer can not do that.

"All of Me'. I think this is one of the most 'real' songs out there. Who hasn't looked in the mirror and not been happy with what they see. This song to me means, we are all human and no one is perfect. You just have to accept the consequences of your actions and hopefully learn from the mistakes you have made.

He has too many great songs to choose from. It also changes depending on my mood. Bat Out of Hell and Paradise will always be near the top for me since those are the 2 songs that got me listening to Meat in the first place

The Flying Mouse 11 Jan 2013 07:31

 Bat Out Of Hell.

GDW 11 Jan 2013 08:25

Clap Your Hands. The lyrics are great.:-)

Without plastering my personal life all over the internet it was a story like this that made me "find" Meat Loaf and my favourite song, Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through.

I was 7 with a lot going on, and Bat II became an escape route, it was another world that I'd step into and stay there for hours (because we all need a Narnia!). I listed to the lyrics of Objects and it seemed odd, almost meant to be, that Meat was singing those lyrics of the second verse, but it was Rock and Roll Dreams that grabbed me. I can, with my hand on my heart, say that that song changed, if not saved, my whole life.

I think in our darkest days we all need something to pull us through, to keep our chins up and stay focussed, and that's what R&RD did.

"I treasure you love, I never wanna lose it
You've been through the fires of hell,
and I know you've got the ashes to prove it.

Remember everything that I've told you,
and I'm telling you again that it's true.
You're never alone 'cause you can put on the 'phones,
and let the drummer tell your heart what to do".

Right, that's enough deep and meaningful for today...off to think about whether Wario's onto something with this Jim/Masculine thing... ;)

Objects in the rear view mirror.

The song that got me into Meat. It's just a pure rollercoaster of emotion. Love it!

Mr. Happy 11 Jan 2013 14:17

Heaven Can Wait. The story isn't quite as touching as the ones above, but...I remember being in the back seat of my family's car, driving down some backstreet in the middle of nowhere, and by sheer luck my parents chose to blast out Bat out of Hell while we did so. We got through Bat, Took the Words...and then the next song starts. There's this beautiful piano, with this angelic voice working it's way over the top with some of the most poetic words I'd ever heard. I remember kind of just sitting there in awe, and that was before the piano solo.

It became my favourite song ever after the piano solo, and a little over more than ten years after the fact, I still haven't found a song I love more. I like my piano :P I love the big, emotional piano ballads, and Heaven Can Wait was the first one I was ever introduced to. So it holds a special place in my heart :D

wolfy35 11 Jan 2013 14:29

No hesitation or need to consider my options it always has been & always will be

Heaven can wait

Whatever I am doing this one always stops me in my tracks & almost always reduces me to tears. However if its the live version from Live around the world ( A truly amazing album, probably the best live recording of any artist I have ever heard ) you can remove the word almost from the above statement.

Because of health problems I have had for many years & will always have I have spent some time in some very dark places, many times I very nearly did not return from & HCW has on many occasions been the only thing that has helped me through.
Only downside of this is if I ever show on a windows live status that I am listening to HCW people who know me well enough start phoning to ask if I am OK

Ollie241189 11 Jan 2013 14:42

My absolute favourites because I dont have one are For Crying Out Loud (album version and live with MSO version) and Objects (album version, History of Meat Loaf version and the 3 Bats version).

For Cryin Out Loud is, to me, the greatest love song ever written and Objects is just an amazing song altogether with some of the most amazing lyrics I've ever heard!

Vickip 11 Jan 2013 14:52

I actually have 3 right now :D

First is Paradise By The Dashboard Light because watching Meat and Patti sing it on VH1 Storytellers is what got me hooked on him and his music. Not only is the song great, but the chemistry between the two of them is absolutely amazing, and no matter how many times I've seen them perform the song together, it still makes me laugh :D

Then there's Rock N Roll Dreams because watching Meat perform it live in Clearwater, FL during the Casa tour in October 2008 helped me get through the death of my Dad. The message of the song hit me ... it was as if Meat was telling me to let the music take me away, and that everything was going to be ok.

And last, but certainly not least, is The Giving Tree from Hell In A Handbasket. Why ? Just because it's a great song, and I'm thankful that I had the opportunity to see Meat sing it live as often as I did last summer ... and I can't wait to see him sing it again (fingers crossed) when he comes back this way :D

Cherry.Loaf 11 Jan 2013 15:49

I'm sorry I also have 3:

Firstly it's I'm gonna love her for both of us I love the imagery, the piano everything

Second- Paradise by the Dashboard light; the first time I heard this I was at Rock bottom crying my eyes out and watching the Melbourne DVD for the first time on my Dad's birthday I heard it and feel completely in love.

Thirdly- Rock and Roll dreams it's goregous and emotive. It really feels like when he's signing it to me especially on the line "You've been through the fires of hell and I know you've got the ash's to prove it" got me through some tough times :)

meat_loaf 11 Jan 2013 15:58

Its hard to decided my utter favorite song must be
Objects in the rare view mirror- Because I can relate to that song so much with the events that have happened in my life and every time i hear it, it brings tears to my eyes Meat puts so much emotion into that song, When i was 16 I entered a talent constant and singing that song and won I took Meats advice for the BOOH 2 Picture show video "Don't think I, Just do" and did it.

My second favorite must be
Two out of Three ain't bad- Again for the same reason again it brings tears to my eyes when I hear that song and I can relate to the words in the song.

My 3rd favorite must be
Not a dried eye in the house because its such an emotional song and meat performs it so well.

A lot of his songs has/ have got me thru dark phases of my life and for that I love him theres just so many to choose from.

Smithie 11 Jan 2013 17:17

Couldn't Have Said It Better

I met my girlfriend at a Meat show in 2003. Meat and Patti were performing CHSIB and we both said wow at the same time. It's one of the best performances I have ever experienced.

glamourgirl 11 Jan 2013 17:50

Is Nothing Sacred-- the duet version w/ Patti
I listened to this song all the time after my grandpa died and it really touched my heart.

AndyK 11 Jan 2013 19:08

For Crying Out Loud.

I may have blubbed a little when Meat sang a small part of it at Wembley in 1999 on the VBO tour, this year I get to hear it eight times!

sammyj0 12 Jan 2013 11:18

Wow! I love reading all your favourites and reasons why it has really opened up my eyes! I am saddened but not shocked to read that “objects in the rear view mirror“ is close to peoples hearts due to horrific childhoods. I too experienced abuse at the hands of my father and lyrics and the emotion and lyrics just get me every time BUT “Rock and roll dreams“ goes hand in hand with “objects“ for me as its like a light at the end of the tunnel and gives me hope!

However my all time favourite is

Heaven can wait - I can't wait to hear this sung live and I guarantee I will cry!! I even have a tattoo - heaven can wait on my arm!

I, too, fall into this bracket. I know it fails to answer the thread's question. At this very moment in time I have an urge to listen to All Revved Up "live" from the Objects CD single.
I adore the talkie bit at the start. It's the only time I ever try to impersonate a Texan. :-)
So, it's All Revved Up for the next ten minutes or so.

Paul Richardson 12 Jan 2013 22:30

The songs I love are Bat, You Took The Words, Heaven Can Wait and All Revved Up. The first side of BOOH I know, but has there ever been a stronger start to any album ever ?

Where All Revved Up is concerned I love the early live versions, the slow start, the monologues (Jim doing the early American Guitar / Wasted Youth speech and Meat's nonsense about being in on a Saturday night 'You look good man - you shouldn't be here !', much better than Todd's 'streamlined' version which was recorded for the album.

Of the later songs I love It Just Won't Quit, Objects, Rock and Roll Dreams, Its All Coming Back, The Future, Pigs, and No Matter What. Lots more than two, but if I have to pick a favorite it would be Bat, being 17, drinking in a rock bar, with the video blaring out ...

Wario 13 Jan 2013 00:05

1. Took the words
Why: cause its the meat song I ever heard, got me hooked and it'll never leave me

2. Objects
Why: cause its so well written and emotional. One of few songs that have made me cry. Another song that touched ne like this was holes in the floor of heaven.

3. Masculine
Why: cause its me.

loaferman61 13 Jan 2013 03:49

No question for me, "Bat Out of Hell" live is the ultimate. Also have to mention the live version of "Objects" from VH1 in 1993, absolutely the most emotional performance I have ever seen.

Fire Ball 14 Jan 2013 04:17

"FOR CRY'IN out LOUD" Takes me to a really magic place !!

It's one of those songs that should be performed only on special occations I think.

Like with MSO or this last tour.
