The Song Never Sung (And/Or Recorded)

Lets say if you can choose any song Meat never sung or recorded before by winning a contest or something, by Jim Steinman or otherwise which song would you want him to sing and/or record which one would it be? (Note: Remakes of songs already did counts).

Me I'd choose Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young since its such an epic song that deserves to be a intro to any Meat album. Its up there with Bat Out Of Hell and I'd Do Anything For Love in epic scale and deserves the master of bombastic vocals to sing it.

I think Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young is fantastic, but it's not a song for an old man. Unless a time machine is included in your contest I'll go with Braver Than We Are.

From Chess, the song "I know him so well", reworded slightly for a male/female duet, with Patti .. or Hallelujah (Cohen)

If it doesn't have to be a Jim Stienman song then I'd really like to hear what Meat could do with a song like 'I Am, I Said' by Neil Diamond. I've always felt that Meat's voice had the power to bring Neil Diamond's lyrics to life on a whole new level and this song in particular is one I think he could do something really great with.

This gets my vote every time...it might be a bit "over-done" in terms of people covering it but I really think Meat's version would be outstanding, I can just hear him building up through the verses, I think he'd do a phenominal job

The Flying Mouse 10 Jun 2013 00:00

 On the subject of Hallelujah, are we talking about LC's version, or a different version?
I've never heard a cover version that waqs anything like the arrangement Cohen used.

LucyK! 10 Jun 2013 00:05

My favourite version is the Cohen version, but when I say covers I mean of the song generally - it was even the blood X Factor winner's single :?

I am torn between Braver than we are & What part of my body hurts the most.

Don't worry they called up Doc Brown and you could use his Delorean for the contest.

That is one fantastic song!
But it is sung by Survivors outstanding singer Jimi Jamison already and suits that voice perfectly IMO.

If I wanted A Jim Steinman song it would be What Part Of My Body Hurts The Most. If I didn't want a Steinman song it would have to be Whiskey Lullabye by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss so Patti would have to do Alison's part lol. It makes me cry and is a very well written story song. You gotsta check it out!

Meat Loaf_fan 10 Jun 2013 19:28

From Jim Steinman vault:
"We're Still The Children We Once Were"
or
"Graveyard Shift"

From other writers:
"When A Man Loves A Woman"
or
"What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted"
or
"Unchained Melody"

LucyK! 10 Jun 2013 19:31

Completely respect your choices but I wouldn't go for any of the last three, just a bit cliche for my liking...I know I suggested Hallelujah which gets covered a lot, but two of those three choices were done by Robson and Jerome  (who actually I secretly loved!)

chairboys 10 Jun 2013 20:05

A little known chant from the terraces of Adams Park (home of Wycombe Wanderers)
The lyrics are a touch tricky but it goes something like this:

"chairboys, chairboys
chairboys, chairboys
chairboys, chairboys"
... and repeat until the resident drummer behind the goal gives up the ghost.

I'd pay a fortune for a recording.

Braver Than We Are (Meat & Patti)

Having had a re-listen I reckon Meat should do Hallelujah but the Rufus Wainwright version, just ML and Justin on piano, Heaven Can Wait style

With a string arrangement like Heaven Can Wait. :)

LucyK! 12 Jun 2013 20:29

Sorry, in my head I meant like Heaven Can Wait as it was done on the tour...just ML and Justin, perhaps a little bit of Randy thrown in for good measure!

For a Christmas song I would love to hear him sing 'When A Child Is Born'. He could do it as a solo or sung as a duet. Here is a link where it's a duet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ummY5T_Te4

Cherry.Loaf 29 Nov 2013 20:27

I would Absolutely *love* to hear Meat and Patti do this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LW-Kj_LNUQ

I think any number of Leonard Cohen songs would be wonderful. I can't think of a bad song he's done. I like Anthem, First we take Manhattan, Tower of Song . sisters of mercy, Susanne, and so many more already mentioned. The Future is one of Cohen most interesting songs, so is the Manhattan song.
I listened to Alice sing " welcome to my nightmare" and thought it would be interesting to hear redone. It is very theatrical.

I have always wanted to hear Meat cover ? Vaults of Heaven" ( from WDTW)

I also think several of Patti Smith's early albums have amazing songs, ie, Gloria.
