First I would ask if he hung that Texas flag I gave him in his office

Then I would simply thank him and congratulate him on the success of Couldn't Have Said It Better :)

I'm afraid i couldn't write that on a public message board...  :P

Seriously though, i'd get him to autograph my shoulder so that i could have it tattooed over, then i would congratulate him on his success and tell him how much i love him and admire his work and tell him what a difference he has made in my life, before finally slipping my phone number into his pocket just before leaving..... :P

Um, well I would ask Meat if I could do a duet with him of 2 Out Of 3 Ain't Bad. I would like this recorded in a studio to enhance my voice   and then have Meat design the cover, with myself, Ellis and Roy included all on THAT Bed together. :!: with Sleep on me Sheets in the background

Don't be nervous ... just be yourself, and you'll be fine :))

Of course that's easy for me to say ... considering I barely remembered my own name the first time I met him

Seriously .. enjoy every minute of it !!

Hmmmm.....I suspect I would thank him for so much good music, good memories of concerts and listening to his music with friends, and for the new friends I have made chatting about his music here and in other forums. Then I would probably beg for a big hug, which I would treasure forever. Finally, I would probably talk to him about computers and finance, as I found a few interviews he did on those topics very interesting. Lastly, I would make sure I had a photo of the occasion to remember it always!

On the other hand, when I have in fact met people that I admire very much I usually turn into a gibbering fool. I usually mumble something silly and worry that I will blurt out something inappropriate. I met my favorite author Harlan Ellison (SF, sadly not many people have heard of him) about 15 years ago and I could scarcely put a coherant pair of words together. I did finally ask him for a photo with him, at which time he put his arm around me and told me to put my hand on his knee for the photo. In the pic I ended up smiling like a total goon (I was 19, I was a goon!), but the memory of that still brings a smile to my face and makes me feel happy inside.

What a great story Sherrie :)

When I knew I was going to meet Meat the first time (in 2001), I had so many things I wanted to tell him (in my mind anyway ...). But when he walked into the room, my mind went completely blank and I couldn't say two words !

So when I found out I was going to see him again last year, I was determined not to let that happen again. I had it all played out in my mind .. but as soon as he walked in the room, I almost went completely blank again  Thankfully I rememberd my name, but when I handed him the Texas flag that I had brought from my parent's store, all I could say was "this is for you" and forgot to tell him what it was
Luckily he handed it to Debra, so I told her what it was. Then when he happened to be standing there, I mentioned it to him and that was when he said it was "Cool".

I also got a big hug and thankfully my camera worked so I got a great picture of us that I'll cherish forever !

Well- I met Meat twice, but I had that tongue-tied issue both times, although the second time (when we did a little diddy from Swan Lake) I managed to ask a semi-intelligent question about his acting style and whether he followed the ilk of Stanilavsky or Meisner...

The main problem is, He really intimidates me- and it's not a fame thing, it's a talent thing...It's so difficult to be eloquent with somebody you REALLY respect. I was hoping that I would have another opportunity to speak POPERLY (Meat mentioned on Canada AM the possibility of a Canadian date in the tour) but I'm thinking with all the trouble Meat has had, (health wise) that he'll probably want to cut the tour a little shorter...and who could blame him, poor guy.

What would I say if I had the chance, and could talk like a normal person?

I'd say thank-you- for his incredible music,

I'd tell him that he really inspires people, and (if I had any nerve left) I'd tell him how phenomenal he looks - and how dearly I will miss his voice and shows when he finishes touring.

It's such a hard situation, I can understand why he needs to retire, and focus on his acting (which is superb!) but I can't quite get used to the idea of NEVER seeing him sing live again. It's quite a sad thought, isn't it?

It always worries me that I would sound like a crazy fan saying this stuff to him personally, though, I just wish it could be more natural than meeting him for five minutes and trying to say everything you want to say, without sounding desperate.

well that was a bit long

The Flying Mouse 29 Sep 2003 18:15

 Good question  .
When i'd regained conciousness  ,i'd give him a great big bear hug.
I'd thank him for the years of pleasure his work has brought me.
I'd tell him that it was him who inspired me to pick up a mic and start singing and it was one of the best things that ever happened to me.
I'd ask him to sign my vinyl copy of Bat and to write an insperational message in it's frames cardboard mount.
I'd get a photp of us together as a memento of an unforgettable moment. And i'd tell him to never stop rockin 8) .

That's the plan, but i'd probibily just stand there like an idiot trying to tie two words together

plukie 29 Sep 2003 19:39

I'd tell him to sit down, have a drink and relax. Don't talk about music or anything to do with the band. Let him have a complete five minutes of "normality"
