90. In The Land Of The Pig, The Butcher Is King
This is the START OUT OF HELL & ARRIVE TO HEAVEN topic.
Let's Go to Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!!! In The Land Of The Pig, The Butcher Is King (9) I think this is the best real song on Bat Out Of Hell 3. When I heard at first time by Paul Crook, I didn't understand what happened with Jim Steinman (particulary after If It Ain't Broke). It not a sophisticated song, but it's really hevy. Heavier than Life Is A Lemon. Meat's voice is okay but I think if he wants to sing the original orchestra version (what is download from net by Rob Evan) he could not do that. It's strange thing, because normally I'd prefer the big orchestra, but I don't feel the power in Rob's version. The guitars are heavy, that's great... that would be better with a louder symphonic background but I write it on Desmond's count. It's a good angry, political song... I really like it. My score: 9 |
Again i really like this song. I think you can feal the anger in his voice.
I still love the pig squeals at the end. 9/10 |
Wow, one that White On High actually likes!
This is an excellant song. Powerful political lyrics, powerful vocals, very dark and gothic, love everything about this one. 9 out of 10 |
10/10

Great great song! Best on album! 10/10!

LOVE IT!!!

Top Tune, 11/10

In the Land of the Pig, the Butcher went over the top to see what's on the other side. Sheer freakin' brilliance. Best song on the album, 9/10.
|
It's hideous. Especially in comparison to the demo version. It loses all meaning via the heavy arrangement, and is a blatant attempt at winning over fans of the heavier style of music.
1/10 |
i don't understand this song, perhaps that's the reason that i don't like it at all. 5/10
|
The first minute, is after Monstro, the best of the album.
I love the parts of the song with piano and backing vocals. I hate the guitarsolo. I don't understand the lyrics but I don't care. 8/10 9/10 without the guitarsolo. |
Dark, powerful, angry. Awesome! Full marks from me. :D
|
Fantastic song! 10/10 from me!
|
I have my own interpretation of the lyrics and I like the song because of that. I need to be in the 'mood' to listen to this one, if I'm not it sounds too loud and rawcaus. When I want that its great. 7/10.

This is what I was looking for on a Bat album! A Steinman, comparatively new, more intricate melody, and Meat at his full lung bursting capacity! That's what the whole Bat 3 album should be like! Love this one!:D
9 1/2 out of 10 Would have been 10 if it sounded more Steinman-y;) |
Initially I hated it and more often than not would reach for the Skip Track button on the stereo, though it's grown on me now i'm still not entirely sure on it...
|
My brother's 'complaint' about it was that it doesnt sound like a Meat Loaf song...which is exactly why i think it works...
Great heavy guitar, meat's voice is strong, especially for the high spots...steve vai's contribution is really good. Quite possibly the best song on the album 9.5 |
It's one of my top top favourites on the album. I don't get why a lot of the Stein fans rave so much about the original demo, as Steinman told Meat to make it into a Metallica/Disturbed-type track, and that's what's been done!
8/10 |
I actually like both versions very much. 10, would have been 11 when itīd be closer to the demo though.
|
9/10 good dark n heavy bass
|
Great song. One of my favorites from bat3. 9/10
|
This is definitely the best Steinman song on the album
9/10 Pud  |
This song has grown on me I have to say.
It's really good though it looses a mark for the pointless pig noises at the end. 9/10 |
Apart from the piggie noises at the end, this track really rocks. 8/10
