Here's my two cents.....
I am very disheartened to see Meat go the way of so many "fan clubs" that require you to pay for the priviledge of meeting the artist. KISS started using this same system and I went for it ONCE.....although I could not afford the top package deal (meaning I did not BUY a M & G moment with the band) but I did hope that I would get prime seats for the show via paying the additional money. I saw the tour 6 times (only did the upgrade once though) and I got comparable, if not better, seats the five times that I did not pay the additional cash. Where I work, I see a LOT of shows coming through and a LOT of them are going with this new system. Granted, it does afford the few who actually have that sort of cash to spend an opportunity to meet the artist - but those of us who put everything they can into just getting to and seeing the show will never be able do so. It was bad enough before when I wasn't 'cool' enough or my breasts weren't big enough to get invited to a M & G. Now its escalated into my bank account is not big enough either.
As for the 'new' fan club. I found it very amusing that I was offered a free membership for SIX MONTHS......I purchased a yearly membership way back when........perhaps they forgot that NONE of us received a welcome packet.....or hey....what about that incredibly awesome patch I designed........I just have to laugh I suppose. Yes I paid for a membership and probably will continue to do so. HOWEVER.....MLUKFC will always be the first place I visit....even if I have never officially joined by sending payment....I have always felt welcome here!
