Blu-ray is the next generation of optical media has mentioned using a blue laser instead of a red one. As this laser is thinner, it can read more information on a disc which at present can hold 50gb of data, enough for High Definition Content. A 250gb disc has now been produced and available (although expensive at present) and also a 750gb disc is being produced by TDK at the moment. It's rival is HD-DVD which has a present capacity of 29gb although a 50gb is on the horizon I believe. And just to say Blu-ray is not at all crap. It's quality against HD-DVD was something of speculation at first because it was using the standard MPEG-2 standard , but is now switching to the VC-1 codec, just like HD-DVD, and can hold more info than HD-DVD. Both formats are pretty impressive but Blu-ray will win the day. And any of Meat's stuff on this format will be superb.
