You'll get used to it, just give it time. You don't pay for it. They are only doing it to stay interesting/new, that's the only reason.

From what I understand, the new Facebook is way more than just a new page layout ... it's a whole redesign of their platform, including how third party applications can access your profile information. In the old facebook, app developers were more or less on their honor to only access data they need to make their application work. The new platform supposedly has more controls in place to let facebook enforce limits on what data each third party app gets to see. I'm guessing facebook didn't want to have to maintain both the old and new versions of the platform, so that's why they phased out the old facebook (don't think there was any specific bad app that they were looking to shut down)
