For some reason I can't find the meaning which I've used...derivative in every day language means basically what it says above but applied to anything...
In other words...Steinman wrote songs already...and THEN borrowed lyrics from them to create new songs...or music...
I stopped basically watching that video after I've heard "Faster than a speed of love" or something of that nature...really grated on my nerves after "Faster than a speed of light"
