On 20th July, Colonel Graf Von Stauffenberg tried to blow up ~~~~~~.
The plot failed.
In a bid to cover his ass, General Fredrich Fromm (an officer who had prior knowledge of the plot) had Von Stauffenberg, along with three comerades put against a wall and shot on the spot.
The rest of the conspirators (including Field Marshal Erwin Von Witzelben) were tried before The People's Court, before being hung, from meat hooks, with nooses made from piano wire.
Von Stauffenberg had a much less painless death, but he's been played now by Tom Cruise, so it's tipped the balance on who's fate was worse.
