As a performer myself, I can say that I would hate to find myself under the view of Simon Cowell. When you perform, and you're not just doing it for the popularity / money / whatever, you pour your heart and soul into everything you're doing. To do that, then just get told 'Wow you sucked get off the stage', must be really disheartening. It's just a really low thing to do.
Long story short, I agree with everything Meat says, it's all right on the money.
