Damn stupid IMHO.
I remember a discussion we were having on a forum for (mostly ex) merchant navy sailors about some girl from Australia doing one of these sail round the world thingies at a very young age.
Most sailors in the peak of their prime would think twice before taking on that task, let alone a 14 year old going alone.
This obsession with fastest, highest, deepest, youngest, is bloody dangerous, and the "youngest" most of all because the "adults" are supposed to look after their well being, not throw them in a boat and have a launching party.
