Anything along these fault lines is at most risk, so yeah NZ is not in a good place with regards to that, but there are many places around the world like that. If you are not going to live or visit somewhere because of that it's up to you but then you can also step out in the street and get hit by a bus anywhere. Apparently the chances of dying in an earthquake are less than by means of legal execution!
