People have rated music since (the beginning of time?) True, I don't know why we don't rate art. I give Picasso a 2 but Rembrant a 10. Seems funny to do so. I think for music or books or movies, it somehow lets people participate and feel like their opinion matters, in which it does, if it affects sales, like with charts for music, books and movies. Art? Not so much I think.
