THe only time the word "father" is mentioned is at the end of the song.
I think the word is used to address the priest that would be in the condened man's cell before sentence is carried out, rather than the characters actual dad.
He asks the priest to show him the way to set his soul free.
I think that one lyric itself could mean 1 of 3 things.
1. Show him how to go to his death well with dignity.
2. Show him how he can save his soul and get to heaven despite his crime.
3. Show the way, as in lead the way to the death chamber where his soul will be released from his body.

Meat did a great job on getting a more rockier edge on the live performances.
Would have been interesting to see what would have happened if Meat had stayed in the production process untill the end.
