and i always loved the lyric nothing seems to come, elusive as a shadow etc

but it struck me just how good the journey lyric was, for 2 years it never dawned on me, as i was pulled by the shadow lyric.. totally missed it

the song is called always been there, by duke

and it struck me for the first time having actually got that lyric, either rightly or wrongly, that the song is about the vulnerability of a songwriter, possibly with writers block or lack of confidence

which is very apt as it was his first proper commecial release in over 4 years, having been working on theatre and side projects.

i bet you're sorry you asked now lol

what was your lyric surprise?
Lol- I'm not sorry I asked at all- this is the kind of thing I love to talk about!

Mine was from Bruce's song Living Proof, which is about the birth of his first son. The last verse goes:

Well now all that's sure on the boulevard
Is that life is just a house of cards
As fragile as each and every breath
Of this boy sleepin' in our bed
Tonight let's lie beneath the eaves
Just a close band of happy thieves
And when that train comes we'll get on board
And steal what we can from the treasures of the Lord
It's been along long drought baby
Tonight the rain's pourin' down on our roof
Looking for a little bit of God's mercy
I found living proof

For some reason, I always "saw" the lines about the drought and the rain literally, which I guess there is that interpretation (let's lie beneath the eaves), but I realized it also means that we've been lacking something (Grace, mercy, happiness, love?), and now we have it in abundance. Pretty cool, but also a moment for me.

Bruce is really good for double/hidden meanings.
