I think your first point answers the other two. Like Michael, I don't think a lack of an interview with Steinman should indicate anything more than his possible reluctance to give interviews generally, plus the limitations of time.
I too initially felt the documentary was BOOH heavy, and that I'd have liked to have seen more of his recent work. I would still like to see the latter
.. but on reflection, given the programme makers' objective was to explore the kind of iconic status he has achieved and one that few other artists have, it needed I think to devote its attention to two things in the main; the album that was his launching pad to worldwide recognition, and what drives the man who has managed to stay a household name for nearly 40 years, and in an hour I think they managed to achieve that pretty well.
Nearly all those interviewed were people with some direct association with the landmark album that was the launching pad of an icon or those who have been friends with Meat in his personal life. One would expect some comment from those in the music business, and finally from Paul who is producing the new album.
I think Meat came across as the gracious and humble man he is, and that setting foot on any stage is about one thing only .. each and every person who has bought a ticket.
