Part of that definitely is down to the fact that television gives people a skewed vision of the world. It is obsessed with youth and once you're past 60 as a man you can pretty much forget getting on the TV. For women it's about 45 it seems. There are exceptions (if you are a long going well known tv presenter etc) but not many from what I've seen.
I was still surprised but that is more down to the fact I know Meat rather than an age related thing.
Also Twitter isn't the full compass of reality either.
I've thought about closing my account about ten times this year alone. Either you see people praise things or tear things a new asshole and there isn't much room in between.
