I don't think he ruined it at all. Yeah his vocals weren't as good as Meats on Bat Out Of Hell but Meats vocals on Deadringer weren't that cracky either.
I think the reasoning behind Jim singing it is that they spent all this time and money in a recording studio when Meats voice went all crappy, so then they were at a point where they can either get another singer or lose what they've done. That's when Jim (with Rory's) help decided to do the album. Some of Jims best songs are on Bad For Good and that's why Meat sang some of them on Bat 2, as finished products with meat on vocal as he should have been.
However I still can't see the reasoning for not including Surf's Up on Bat 2, when it's arguably one of the best songs Jim's ever written. Meats rendition of it on Bad Atitude sucked big time.
