It's certainly Meat's house; it was featured a couple of years ago in an architectural magazine. I can't think why there would be those who "reckon he isn't particularly well off". He's had a long and successful career and works extremely hard. He has said that after his bankruptcy in the 80s he has invested wisely in property rather than speculative stock, and for a successful rock star he's one of the least acquisitive you'd find imo.

He has a lovely home, but not a mansion, in a gated community with sufficient grounds to afford him privacy. He has worn the one beautiful watch but with a simple black leather strap for years. He loves Childe Hassan and owns one treasured painting, I presume the one that takes pride of place over the mantlepiece. In short, he doesn't flaunt his wealth, (whatever that may be) or throw what he earns at acquiring loads of possessions, is an unostentatious man of quality yet relatively simple taste, who I think has little truck with wardrobes of designer fashions, drawers full of jewellery, or a fleet of flashy motors. But that's surely much of the charm of the man

Actually the ticket price put on it seems very reasonable to me. It's in a beautiful area within a reasonable commute of LA. Homes in Hidden Hills where Rob Cavallo lives run around $5m. Hell, my brother's small 4 bed detached in Surrey is valued at around a million dollars!

It seems to be a genuine listing .. and I remember Meat said when interviewed for Architectural Digest that he loved buying and doing up houses, and once he finishes one he wants to do another. He said then perhaps this would be the keeper .. but perhaps he's got itchy to remodel again

Possibly because he has kept on touring/making music after claiming he would retire and sometimes doing this to the extent whilst he didn't look happy or comfortable.

Even property is a lousy investment these days. Look what has happened to Spain and Ireland. It's easy to claim someone was smart afterwards if it works out and brand him a fool when it does not. Also a lot of people on this planet work hard but will never own property, or let alone property of that value. I'm sure Meat himself recognises he is in a privileged postion and that it's not all just down to hard work alone. Sometimes who you know is more important than what you know.

The thing is with property (says the man who knows ~~~~~~ all about it lol) is that the market goes up and down dramatically, so if you've picked a good location and you have the money to sit on the property for a long time, it will always come to a point where you can make a profit.

Saying that (and i'll contradict myself here, and why the hell not, everyone else usually does ) there is a difference between flaunting your wealth and enjoying it.
Flaunting your wealth is saying to the world "look how many pretty things I have" (I can't remember where I saw it, but I remember seeing a funny sign that sums that attitude up with the words "the one who dies with the most toys wins")whereas enjoying wealth is buying things purely because they make you feel happy.
I don't see Meat flashing the cash and showing off, and that's a good thing.He seems very grounded that way and that's something I find worthy of respect.

He billed one tour as his last "world tour", which may well have been what he thought would be the case then, and when he was ill and tired towards the end of the CHSIB tour said he was quitting; that you needed to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em .. and then quickly regrouped and got stuck into working again. Hardly a repetitive pattern in a career spanning four decades. Yes; talent, focus, continuous effort and creative drive help quite a bit! I didn't suggest Meat wasn't more fortunate than some, and I'm sure he would acknowledge that and is grateful. My point was he has worked tirelessly, often against the odds, and made his own way. He wasn't handed good fortune or success on a plate, but has worked for it and earned it. So he lives where he wants to live, and in a lovely house? Good luck to him; he deserves it.

As to investing in property, in the long term property in the right place is still a wise investment, and overall safer than playing the market imo. As I thnk Neil said, property may go down for a while, but the general trend is upwards, and buying property as a longterm investment is a very different kettle of fish to over-mortgaging yourself in where you live and finding yourself in negative equity.

For heaven's sake, the man needs a home, however much he travels. It also makes sense to live near LA, and he needs a home in a community and with enough land to afford him some privacy. And by property values in a suitable area near LA his is reasonably modest .. plus he runs the business out of his home. If anyone considers that "flaunting" one's wealth they're daft imo .. or perhaps simply envious. Meat didn't come on here bragging "Look at my house!" .. someone brought the information here, because if Meat puts his home on the market he's famous enough for celebrity gossip sites to pick it up .. something he doesn't seek, probably doesn't welcome, but it goes with the territory. I know he has referred at times to having a house in the islands and an appartment in New York. He may or may not still have them, but I'd think they were sound investments.

I, too, read his biography, and what struck me was that he has never really lived a flash rock'n'roll life style. He said in the book that he enjoyed the lifestyle when he first became famous .. but as he was a married family man within a couple of years I don't think that lasted long. Much of the time his family toured with him, and with Leslie he raised two graceful daughters.

He was asked in an on-line chat once what car he drove, and gave a disarmingly modest and normal history of every car he'd owned, one at a time, each time trading in one for a slightly better model. Some people know the price of everything and the value of nothing. In my view Meat is not one of them.

Like Mouse, I don't see that Meat flaunts what he has, nor does he lead a showy lifestyle. Like most of us, he buys the best home he can and privately gets on with his life. He's really quite conservative, tries to lead as normal a life as he can, is pretty modest and very grounded. Something I too find worthy of respect.
