Default Pets... :(

Hi all,

I'd just like to know, do you have a pet or pets that you love? It's just that I have a little hamster, and I had to take him to the vets yesterday. He's got a tumor in his ear and he might have to be put down soon, depending if and how fast this thing grows. Every time I look at my hamster I could start crying! Some say I shouldn't care so much cos it's "JUST" a hamster! But I need some help here, I feel really bad.

Hi Honey,

Sorry to hear that you are feeling so sad. It's perfectly ok to be feeling down about your hamster. I bet that to you, it's more than just a pet - a part of your family, more like.

I hope everything will be ok with him, but if he does have to be put to sleep, then i hope you know that we are all here for you, and you won't go through this on your own - we won't let you!!!!

If you need to talk, you know where i am, hun.

I am sorry for you. Who am I/or is anyone, to deceide if you have 'a right' to feel pain over anything. If you love the pet, the thought of loosing it is very painfull. So no, it isn't 'just' a hamster. It's an animal you care about. I hope everything will be okay, try not to worry too much.
Easy for me to say, I know...

Yes, I do have pets too. I have a cat and rabbit, which I care for very much.

Hello there Honey! I know exactly what you are going through!!

I have had many different pets over the years, and I've loved them all, from the smallest to the largest to the slimiest!! They give us unconditional love and affection regardless of what they are, plus hours of enjoyment. We can tell them our innermost secrets and they don't answer back or try to judge us....and don't care what we look like in the mornings!!
I am very sorry to hear your hamster isn't well, and understand how worried you must be. Sadly it is a fact of life, and one of the drawbacks of owning a pet, that undoubtedly they will leave us all too soon...the time is never right.
I truly hope that he will recover, but if the worst happens, although it may feel like some small consolation at the time, know that you have given him/her a good life and the best chance you could.
Ignore what others may say about "it's only an animal!" .....thats utter rubbish!! Those people have no idea what they are missing out on in life!! YOU feel how you want to feel, for however long!! There are no set rules, and no-one has the right to dictate that to you. 'To feel' shows you are a warm loving person and should be respected for that.

Take Care...I am here for you if you need to talk ok??!!

I know what you are going through Honey. I ahd two white cats. White cats are extrememly susceptible to skin cancer. One of them had to be put down last year and the one that is left has 2 tumours on her ears. luckily she is fine and they are benighn but as she is 17, she won't be able to cope with an operation to remove them.

Also she had a stroke last month and is now stone deaf!!

Oh Honey how sad - I am a mummy to 3 cats, having lost 5 over the past few years, I do know how you feel, it can be very sad when an animal of any sort is unwell. As you say you have given your hamster a lovely life so you should hang onto that above all else.

So sorry to all those mummy/daddies who have lost' furbabies' at some time!!!

I have lost many different pets over the years, hardest of all a beloved cat at age 14 a few years back, and my dearest old dog at age 14 just under 2 years ago. I still miss them terribly despite having 2 more cats and 2 new dogs....they can never be replaced.

Totally agree....you've got to hang on to the fact that you've given him a good life Honey and in return he has brought joy into your life. When the worst comes, try to remember that things do get better in time, and you will move on.

But I'm still Keeping fingers crossed for you sweetie!!

Some news... My hamster still behaves "normal", he doesn't seem to suffer from any pain (yet). He is still running around, running in his wheel, eating - everything! And the tumor in his ear hasn't grown (as far as I can assume)... I hope it'll stay like that for a while more! Thank you all very very much for your support!!!! I'll let you know about any changes.

Glad to hear it is OK honey.

I made a mistake in my earlier post. I said that I ahd two white cats. What i should have said was that the cat ahppened to live with us but was totally independent and owned by no-one!!! Just found out today that one fo the neighbours didn't know she was mine adn has been feeding her everyday!!

I would always tell them the truth -maybe the position of the hutch in sunlight was the problem, and would say to the children that joop had gone to bunny heaven to play with his friends

Tough one Bart .
Couple of sugestions.....

Replace bunny-If new bunny is not identical to old bunny claim he has had plastic surgery.

Claim bunny was kidnapped by aliens.

claim bunny witnessed a mob "hit" and is now it the witness protection program.

Tell them that bunny was lonely without them so followed them to their holiday destination to find them.

Claim that bunny resigned from his post because of the pention plan.

Claim bunny has joined the foreign legion.

Claim bunny went to a magic show, volenteerd to help in a trick, and has not been seen since.

Have bunny stuffed.Say he's very tired.

Claim that bunny won the lottery and has moved to a carrot field.

Claim bunny sugested a game of hide and seek.Still haven't found him.You can take it from here children.

Sorry I can't be more help, but if it's any consolation, remember,Good Bunnies Go To Heaven,Bad Bunnies Go Everywhere.

I love animals. I have three rabbits, ten guinea pigs, tropical fish and a finch. If one of them is not very well it is the worst feeling in the world, because you cannot explain that you are trying to do your best for them as you push yet another tablet down their throat. Hang on in there Honey, animals are a lot tougher than we give them credit for, but if the worst comes to the worst do the right thing for your hamster.

Hi there
I have two dogs five cats (my house is surrounded by fields they keep the rats down, hate those rats) and a guinea pig called Malcolm. We had a party recently there are only ten houses where I live so all the neighbours came, we put the speakers in the garden and blasted out meatloaf all night and Malcolm has not been the same since seems fidgety and nervous. Trigger one of the cats (he has five toes on each foot instead of four has started grwoing scabby bits on his ears, taking him to the vets tomorrow hope its not tumours. The trouble is the vets are two dutch guys just like the policeman in the Paul Whitehouse sketch and I can't keep a staright face. Incidently we called the cat Trigger because he's thick. Oh I have a pond full of fish (they have names too).
Just love my animals
