Default CHSIBM then MOS.....what next??

Just curious as to whether anyone knows or has an idea of what the next single is going to be?

If i remember correctly, the general concensus was that the next single after CHSIBM was going to be 'Testify' and it ended up being the relatively average 'Man Of Steel'!

Any thoughts or preferences?

I thought 3 releases was the general rule over here?

I really can't see a third single being released. Seeing as a dogs dinner was made of the whole promotion of CHSIB (album) and singles, does Meat think it's really worth going through all that again?? Anyaways if it there were to be a third single, it should be Testify. That sould have been there instead of MOS.

Back to basics then, how does this all work? For example, would someone like Meat Loaf approach record companies directly or would he have a manager to do that? Why do you think Virgin would not touch this, if that is the case?

It makes sense to me that any proposal is set out in advance, i.e. singles, videos, promotional budgets and strategies etc? Surely this would have been thrashed out before anything was signed?

I just don't get it folks, he's been in this business for years and had some bad experiences by all accounts so why such a poor record company now?

I'm guessing nobody on the inside will answer my questions but I had to get it off my chest!

I am in the US so that is news to me. I had thought that once a single was released overseas their would be a US release to follow shortly there after?

3 singles usually get released over here from most albums, at least I think that's the case. The charts and music business has changed a lot over the last few years so maybe fewer single releases is a reflection of this?

Luke, i would imagine Meat and his management or whoever the strange people who are looking after him did go to record companies and laid their cards out on the table. Maybe the record companies didn't like what they were hearing, figured the album wouldn't sell etc... hence all the trouble he had getting a record deal in the end (having to tour on an album which wasn't even released). The record company might not be pushing for huge promotion (actually they are NOT pushing for huge promotion) becuase the people in charge obviously don't think that there's a market out there for Meat.

Sadly this seems to be true, although GOD knows why (well, actually maybe even he doesn't! ). Surely someone at Virgin must remember how well Bat2 did? Or maybe it's the old thing of a "non-Steinman" album not getting the support it deserves (although WTTN sold at least 3 million copies didnt it? - surely that's enough to warrant some effort???).

Still, never has a song title such as "Mercury Blues" been so appropriate!

I personally think that Meat has been badly promoted all thou this tour, and all of the cd/dvds that have come out this year.

I only knew storytellers was coming out in the UK due to this forum. The only thing I have seen advertised on TV is "The Best Of Meat Loaf"

Surely with better promotion and advertising more people would want to buy. Storytellers is very difficult to get hold of, it is not seen like normal music dvd's - can anyone tell me WHY???

Every Meat fan should have a copy of this - it's BRILL :P

Fireball - if you read this - could you possibly explain ??

I agree completely with this. I haven't heard about Storytellers anywhere else and I'm struggling to get hold of a copy even though I've ordered it. I find it very frustration as I can't wait to get my hands on it.

glad it is not just me - I think promotion in the UK for any of Meat's cd's or dvd's has been crap

storytellers is not widely available, and there is no excuse for it.

i got it for Xmas - it is brill. Meat very relaxed & seen to be having fun

WHY ARE WE SUFFERING FROM LACK OF PROMOTION - ANYONE ????????

ESPECIALLY AS THIS IS THE OFFICIAL LAST WORLD TOUR !!!!!!!!!

What would it take to find some young talent to create a cool live video for the Testify single (if it ever existed)? There must be stacks of live footage from the recent concerts available to use, this would be more cost effective is money is the issue. How about some live pictures to compliment the video to create a little multimedia package? I know Meat has an official photographer so again the footage is available and plentiful.

I'm sure I'm not the only person to be disappointed with this record company, it's hard not to compare this to the days of Bat 2 and WTTN. I remember watching a Behind the Music style programme of the marketing of Bat2 at Virgin. They had a whole team of people brainstorming, one of the first things they mentioned was the massive fan base that still exists for Meat Loaf (and is still growing). How can Mercury ignore sold-out arenas??

I bet there are more than a couple of us on this board who would jump at the chance to market a Meat Loaf single, and I reckon we'd do a much better job. A bit of passion and initiative is all that is needed! Grrrr!

That programme was called Marketing Meat Loaf. Yes, Virgin did a hell of a job.

But Mercury already have their profits. They sold at leest 500,000 copies without promotion. That's a hell of a lot profit.

Remember that Virgin had to sold at least 3,000.000 copies of Bat 2 before they made any profit.

I would love to hear Meat Loafs take on this, maybe we'll find out in the next book!

He should employ me to promote Testify.

Lack of promotion in the UK??????????Are you NUTS??? iI didnt heard about releases of things through stores or radio ANYWHERE via the US!!! I found out tthrough the internet. Here in the US he started a tour THEN while he was over there the album was FINALLY released here! No tv promotions, no advertisements I dont even think it was mentioned on either of the Music channels, vh1 and MTV. I realize its hard for him to do these things when overseas and whoever did this what a COMPLETE MORON!!! I feel this time around you all are getting more then the US!
