No Tim!! I can see what you mean, but no, the horse of Anky van Grunsven has nothing to do with this. It is about something that is remembered this day, but right now it slipped my mind. Is there anyone from the UK who can enlighten us?

I watch about ten different home displays from my bedroom window, it's great! Unfortunately computer is in brother's room on the other side of the house, so I'm not doing that at the moment

Bonfire night commemerates the night in 1605 when Guy Fawkes and a group of Catholics attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliment and then then King. It celebrates their failure hence the burning of the guy on top of the bonfire and people going "Plotting".

However, at present 2005 was the last bonfire night as the new government legislation being prepared currently makes it a criminal offence to "glorify terrorism". And it was confirmed by a government spokesman on Thursday that under the current wording of the law, this would make bonfire night unlawful!

Angry

I'm not going to say "thank god for that", even though last night I was kept awake until after three o clock due to some stupid, ignorant, inconsiderate b****** who started setting fireworks off that sounded more like bombs at twenty to two this morning, when in fact it was Nov 6th by then and therefore Bonfire night is finished. True, they stopped about quarter past two but then you're awake, alert, tense, angry, and planning out an angry email to whoever is responsible for letting people set fireworks off at such an ungodly hour I have enough trouble getting to sleep on ordinary nights, never mind one where you have a cold, cramp, and inexplicable itchy red blotches on your legs
I was thinking last night (about half past two) that it did kind of glorify terrorism, but why can't they have organised events and not let the public buy them, or, failing that, have a proper curfew, it's dark at five o clock for crying out loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why do people insist on letting them off so late??????!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for that rant, but I had four hours sleep last night, was tempted to get up and join the Insomniacs United thread
