Default I've heard the new album!!

I work parttime in a recordstore in Holland and I was pleasantly surprised that this week I was sent a promotional copy of Meats new album!! I've listened to it twice and I must say that I did not really liked it. I know a lot of people will shoot me for this, but hey, I'm just being honest. The title track is in my opinion the best song of the album, and I don't even like that song very much. It's also the longest song. Most songs last for about 4 minutes and I think that the songs have a kind of "Blind before I Stop" vibe, if you know what I mean: short rock songs, with sometimes a computer-effect on the drums or some delay on the vocals.
Another thing that surprised me were the lyrics. I'm sorry to say that the lyrics are so cliche, that sometimes I really couldn't listen to them. I mean: where are the days that Meats lyrics had humour, passion and strength? I know that we cannot always compare his new songs to the things he did in the seventies, but this really freaks me out. I will not put any music of the new album on the net, because I know that this will be removed for understandable reasons. I will listen to the new album again and come back later with a full review of every song.

Excuse me, but you suck!! I know that the album isn't like you say that the album is!! The album will be great, I'm very sure!! I've already heard DIST, CHSIB, Decadent Wish and even a live version of Tear Me Down, and they all together are FANTASTIC!!! I don't believe the shit you say!!

Come on, Garreth. Settle down, man. I thought that a forum is a discussion board, so we can discuse things like civilised human beings, can't we? Why is it that everytime someone puts a 'not so positive review' on meat on the forum, some people react like madmen? I've been a meat fan sinds 1977 (honestly), so I think I can say that I am a true meat fan. But that doesn't mean that I will automaticaly like everything meat brings out. I just gave some arguments why I didn't like his new album, that's all. If you don't agree, that's fine with me, but please don't act like a little child, and come up with some arguments....

Sorry man, but I had a nervous breakdown after I read your post. Sometimes I'm a madman, yes I know. But I think, the album will be great. And the four songs I've already heard are good! Very good!

Hi Arjan, Hi Bart, this is fun talking to both of you at the same time.
Well, now I realy can't wait to hear the whole cd.
As far as I'm concerned, this is a place where every opinion is welcome!

Normaly every opinion is welcome, but not on this forum, you see Arjanus, people here can't stand it when you say something negative about Meat Loaf. Well, Screw them!!!
Better have an opinion then be an asslicker.

Sometimes it is Tim. But you just have the wrong reactions.

CHSIB is an amazing song, but I hope the whole album is great, but I will see, and give my review when I have it on 31 march. Then I will give positive or negative reaction to this album.

Just a quick note to wet your appetites -

CHSIB single - awesome - better than id lie for you

DIST - another excellent song although i feel weaker than most of the rest - still rocks though!

Why isnt that anough - lovely ballad - strong chorus

love you out loud - nice effects on the intro - mix between soft and rock

man of steel - awesome - great chrous - gets better when pearl arrives

testify - you wont stop dancing - anough said

tear me down - very rock in roll - great spoken part

youre right i was wrong - similar to why isnt that anough

because of you - again like why isnt that anough and youre right.. although more rock n roll - great guitars

do it - listen to about 5 times before making an opinion - rocks after that - not meat-loaf style but itll grow on you

forever young - all i can say is it does dylan proud - better than rod stewarts - perfect track to end album - one of my favourites

Summary absolutely awesome although i admit it took me about 5 full listens of each song before i realised just how good it is - it grows on you - i think the problem at first is it isn't very meat loaf like - also versions i have of all 11 are clips/ a little of beginning and end of all songs. truely is a great album and i can't wait till march 31st as these clips have give me an appitiser and i really cant wait to hear the full final songs - you wont be disappointed

Default Different kind of album

This album is meant to be different.

I have read a lot of comments in interviews and articles over the past (four?) years about Fun House/Testify/CHSIB, and many of them mention the new album as one that is different (Peter Mokran being one of those that contributes to the differences), and one that is supposed to reinforce the fact that Meat is still young at heart. When I first found out that Peter Mokran was producing, I looked him up on the net, and I became very afraid. But I have had a change of heart since then.

I have read a few comments now that say something about a song not being the `normal' Meat Loaf type of thing, but I expected those kind of comments and I'm not surprised. I'm glad, actually, because it is good to know that it will be refreshingly different in some way.

Arjan, thank you so much. Hearing these songs has made me very happy!
I am so glad I met you.
I am far to excited to say something about each song. I can only say it is indeed very different, but it is definately Meat. His voice is great! I have only heard this once. So this is very fresh.
For me Testify really seems like the song I like best. I like the 2 different styles in this song, I think this could turn out to be one of the songs I would call brilliant. And this is only the promo-version, it could all be even better on the album!
The version of CHSIB, is beyond belief, if you like it now..
I really wish more people could listen to this. But like I said when Mystery man came, there will always be someone who can hear it first. I didn't know then I would be one of these lucky people.
I don't know what it is I did to deserve this, but I am most grateful.

What can I say, yet another great day..

I have heard all the songs on the promo. But I feel it's too soon to give any comments. I've heard most of it in the same order as you have. I also heard Mercury Blues. I can only say I agree about CHSIB, but I really love DIST. Thank you for your comments, I really need to hear it more often to say more. Think I also agree with you on Man of Steel.
Great day to you,
Mariella

Mariella,

Man of Steel is excellent, i am unclear what all you have heard exactly but i believe this album is nothing short of excellent - before anyone posts i ask you to give the album a chance e.g 5 plays in your cd player - each song develops every time you listen to it. Put testify on continuius loop, turn tear me down up as loud as you can - just stop and listen to forever young - dylan is a great writer - but his singing is weak - listen to meat sing it - this is a perfect combination - you talk of meat and steinman - well meat and dylan isnt far off! Be amazed by Do it! maybe give this one more plays at first than the rest. Also because of you is one of my favourite tracks

I love this!

Testify! What a great song. I hope they will do a good video and send this song out as a single sometime this summer with good promotion work. THAT`S A SUMMER HIT which will find itīs way to the charts.

But I really liked all the songs! The whole album is much more my taste that WTTN. Something wasnīt right with it in my opinion. The new one is a killer.

Thereīs so much potential within this piece of work and I really hope they wonīt release only the lullabys as singles this time!

Markus.

I didn't listen to the full album yet, but I did listen to the short clips you can d/l from Kazaa. So my first opinion on those clips are that the songs sound "ok"

Best songs are CHSIB, DIST and Man of steel I reckon.

The song "Do it" is the worst song on the album imo.

Of course these are just short clips, so can't really base an opinion on them. But it's just a first impression. It's also true that you need to listen to Meat Loaf albums a few times before you really start to like them.

Well I get the feeling that the clips you can d/l from kazaa are looped. So you hear the same bit pasted 3 or 4 times behind each other. If that's so, then my opinion will most likely change :P

Hi Cloggy, when I first heard Do it, I thought the same as you. This is a song I really have to listen to a few times. And it will never be my no. 1 song of the album. But I must say, the more I hear it the more I 'get' it.
By the way, have you heard Testify and Forever Young?
Great day to you,
Mariella
