Everytime I read the 'reviews' of Meat songs on the forum I am surprised, and not in a positive way. I realize that everyone has the right to like a certain song or not, but sometimes I really don't get it. I mean, as a Meat fan I always give songs that I don't really like the benefit of the doubt, but it seems that most of the fans are just too polite. When I read that certain fans give, for instance, a song like "Don't you look at me like that" a 7, I become curious about what mark they would give a song like Bat out of hell of For crying out loud. Maybe a 30?? I think that ranking songs like this, which I think every objective listener will realize aren't as good as certain other Meat songs, is a 'crime' against Bat or For crying.
I know that a lot of people would disagree, but I just like to say: judge Meat songs in their context and not separately from each other. In this way we'll get a more realistic view! "Don't you look at me like that" : a 3...... sorry |

Arjanus,
I see you have a point here. But lets face it. If you see a Meat Loaf song next to an other song, you will see the different things between them. Even when the ML song isn't that good. There are huge gaps between them. But when i rate them in a context of ML songs.....that's different. I think, that every song that you rate.....well, you must look at some things....your own opinion, the music - how does it sounds, the lyrics - are the stong; powerfull; strange or anything else, Meats voice - on bat he has an other voice than on bat II, the mood that you're in when you listen to a song.....etc. etc. Another point, i will always give grades with a . and then the other....like a 9.3 or 7.1......You know why? I'm a teacher...... And everyone has his own opinion about songs, maybe a song is very important for somebody so, he or she will give it a higher rate, cause it reminds them of something special...... Or, maybe he or she just likes a song.....due to what kind of reason. And why is it a crime for Bat, that Don't you look at me like that, gets a higher rate??? Don't see your point. If 10 is the best......1 is the poorest..... well. But every song is, i think, a song on his own....sure if i will rate bat II, i will give it an 10.....but Midnight...i will give it a 7. And it has nothing to do with being polite. |

I've never give a 10, because a live performance of a song can always be better than the original or another live version. Most Jim song I give 8 or 9 or 8/9.
Most other songs, from other albums are sometimes an 8, and sometimes a 4. Mostly songs from Midnight and Blind will have a score lower than 6. But sometimes you're are right. People put the strange sentence on the forum, like "Terrible Steinman music". Everybody knows that Steinman and Terrible can't be in the same sentence. |

I think there are three ways to judge a Meat Loaf song. 1.To judge the song on face value. 2.To judge the song against Meat's other work. 3.To judge the song against the rest of music. I think most people will be doing a little bit of all three. It is difficult to give a Meat Loaf song (even the one's that are not his best) because when you compare them to the rest of music they are far superior.Saying that,I do see your point that some songs that are not so good get marks that are higher than they deserve compared soley to Meat Loaf songs. I don't know what the solution to the problem should be at this stage. I just wish that there was a clearer judging criteria when we started. |

Well I do apologise for any what could be considered odd marks I may have given - I had no idea anyone was taking the marks out of 10 thing so seriously
If it is to be a serious rating - I'll leave it to those with the time to do it properly. |

I don't think people are taking these topics too serious, after all it's only a bit of fun and a chance to air your views (whatever they may be Also,it is difficult to review so many songs one at a time over such a long period of time. It's hard to remember what marks you have awarded to other songs,so it's not suprising to get the odd inconsistency. |
