Default New song

I haven't been to one yet - going to Liverpool on Monday - but I think it is called Tear Me Down. Whatever its called, it is a duet with Pearl, and is supposed to be pretty good. Just a shame we're going to have to wait so long to hear it on the album!

It is called "Tear Me Down" which is a song recorded for the Testify album

However it is not a duet with Pearl

He also did Mercury Blues/Crazy 'bout a Mercury which I had not heard before

I was half right then (ChrisMc previously). I was reading something the other night that said one of the new songs on the album was originally tried as a duet with Pearl (or maybe Amanda, but I doubt it), and sounded so good that they kept her on it for the recorded version. Must have got it mixed up with the concert.

What - a video copy?? If so where did you buy/find it??? I went to Liverpool but it was so good I'd love to have a copy of one of the other shows. The song was excellent - especially the bit about "The big Texan", but I meant its such a shame the album is taking so long.

Please let me know where you got hold of the copy, I'd love one.

Hi Steinbat

this Hyde Park is a very good audience recording (recorded in the front row with a mini disk).

Default Pearl/Meat duet

The song that Meat and Pearl will duet on is Man Of Steel.

I have read on a Kasim site that another song he's performing, Mad About A Mercury or whatever it's called, will also be one of the Testify songs. But I haven't heard anything about that. Has anyone else?
Does Meat talk about the forthcoming album at the shows?

I too would like a recording of the concert. I could pay (by Paypal) if payment is required. But if the tracks (especially Tear Me Down) will be put on a website somewhere, I'd prefer to download them myself.

Much as I enjoyed Meat Loaf's version of Mercury Blues /Crazy 'Bout A Mercury at two concerts in the UK recently if that track was to be on the new Testify album I would be rather disappointed. It is after all a cover and would in my opinion be nothing more than a "filler" to an album. I really want to see an album of new songs that Meat can make his own - though to be honest having waited so long for "new material" anything would be welcome

And no he did not talk about the new album at the two shows I saw in the UK recently

No, I went to the Liverpool concert and he didn't talk about the album there. I enjoyed Crazy about a Mercury, but if it is indeed a cover then I'd rather not see it on an album - Meat doesn't have to resort to covers. He also did Tear Me Down at the concert, now that I do want to see on the album - and I think it will be. Its very good, and the spoken bit about the 'big texan' is just brilliant. I'm not sure but I think the song might have more than a few connections with Meat's 'upbringing' by his Dad - like a few of his songs.

The other song he sang that I've never heard him do b4 was Lawyers Guns and Money, which again I think may be a cover, although I'm not sure. That wasn't bad but I think Meat can do better on the new album. I've read a bit about the writers that have been used, and it sounds like it is going to be good. Unfortunately no Steinman input, but that doesn't make it a bad album. Apparently 10 of the 12 songs are already done so more info may start leaking out soon. :)

I heard the new songs at Liverpool too,but I can't get too excited yet.I would rather hear a song first before I hear it done live.At a concert there's so much going on that you can't take it all in.Also with a song you've not heard before you don't know whats coming next.Suprise is good, but I think anticipation is better.
Weather the songs will be on Testify who knows, there's been so much said about the new album, that I'm just going to sit back and listen to my other Meat c.d.s until it comes along. After all,Meat has already done so much, and if he never brings out another song(god forbid ) this is one fan he's got for life.
About Lawyers Guns & Money,I don't think it's a cover but I may be wrong. The only record I have with it on is Storytellers-Does anybody know if it's on anything else?

Lawyers Guns Money is an old Warren Zevon song from 1978. It had minor chart success and he went on to release the major hit "Werewolf
in London".

Hi MEATLES.I'm not questioning you on who sang LG&M first but i've just been checking out the Guinness book of British hit singles and I cant find any reference to LG&M.Werwolf or Warren Zevon.
The book is suposed to contain every song that has ever been in the british charts. Is it possable that they were not released in England,or that they were released but never got to the charts?

Hi there

yes it is quite possible that Warren Zevon isn't popular in England, if you go to www.allmusic.com and search his name you will find it.

Tear Me Down is a cover too, you know. It is from the musical Hedwig and the Angry Itch. The orignal lyrics were about getting your penis chopped off so Meat and co changed the lyrics a bit, so it is entirely possible that some of it is about his dad. Most of the lyrics are the same though.

And come to think about it Meat has always done covers. In his live stuff and on albums. He has done Johnny b Goode forever in his live stuff, he recorded Promised Land, on Neighbourhood he did Martha, Original Sin and Left In The Dark (all covers. Though Left in the Dark is a bit different as it was orignally intended for him. Still a cover though because it wasn't intended for him like this). Like Joe Cocker - he takes songs and interprets them.

I think songs from Steinman aren't covers, because on the time that those songs are recorded Meat couldn't record those songs!

Original Sin was not written nor intended for Meat to sing. The original and in my opinion far superior version was written and recorded for the album of the same name performed by Jim's group of Vocalists "Pandora's Box".

And as for Left In The Dark... I say that this is a cover version too. The ones from Bad for Good that are also on Bat 2 are not, becasue as you say they were originally written for him to perform. But as for Left In The Dark, though written for him, Jim did not intend to not be present during the production of the song and it would have been most different if he had made it with Jim (ie: if it was not a cover of the Jim song).

The album Bad For Good was ment for Meat, but Meat lost his voice.

If Meat had a record company in 1988, Meat had made Bat II. Probably with a few songs from Bad for Good, and maybe from the album Original Sin. Because a record company wouldn't made a Bat II, Jim made his "own" album, with Pandora's Box.

That's why I don't think that al the songs from those albums are covers.

If Meat would release A Total Eclipse, than I agree it is a cover.

In my opinion is Meat's Original Sin better and more powerfull than the Pandora's Box version. I think Meat's version is the version Steinman mentioned with this song.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to know if anyone could tell me where to find setlists from this Holidays tour because I am probably going to the one in Jacksonville Florida and would like to know what kind of songs he's playing. Thanks.
