Hi, my name is Native Texan, and I'm techno-ignorant. How come when I try to quote someone's post, it doesn't look like when other people do? Nothing gets highlighted, I end up with the word "quote" before and after the section I choose. I appreciate any help you can give me.

Sounds to me like one of a couple of things. Firstly, do you mean when you post the message or when you are typing it? The highlighted grey box won't appear until you post the message. Try using the preview button to check. Second, I am unsure what you mean by highlighting a section. As far as I know (and i could be wrong) there is no way to quote a single section. I think you have to click quote (top right hand corner of the post you wish to quote) to quote the entire message and then delete the sections you don't want to appear. Third, are you using the right tags on the message. It should read [ q u o t e ] QUOTED TEXT HERE [ / q u o t e ] (but without the spaces) Hope this helps UC |

Hi Chris
I've recently transferred everything to a new hard drive and I'm getting error messages which are are a bit annoying. I just OK the error messages and everything works fine, but something must be fundamentally wrong for the damn things to be appearing in the first place. The error messages I'm getting are:- (1) When I open a Microsoft Office document it tells me that a document of the same name is already open. But it isn't. (2) When I open Microsoft Outlook it tells me it can't find pop.freeserve.com. (3) When I'm on the internet I occasionally get a message saying an error has occured and an error log is being created. Any pointers you can give me will be most welcome |

Chris,
I have recently downloaded ZoneAlarm firewall which for the first 15 days I am running as the Pro version. This includes a cache cleaner but the free version only has the firewall (which I will be left with in about 12 days). As I'm sure you're aware it gets rid of pretty much everything that IE remembers which is quite handy... My question is this: Can you clear the cache manually (I.E. Once I lose this function of ZoneAlarm)? Cheers, Stephen. P.S. Feel free to answer the other questions first - No rush :) |

With many many thanks to Stephen, i think i might well have this sorted!!!
Apparently pixagogo.com requires a password to view pics, that why i cant post em properly - will try geocities, see how that goes.. |

Geocities won't work, because the don't allow hotlinking.
Try www.uploadit.org |

Does anyone know of a way to stop the internet disconnecting when you switch users/log off in XP? It's very annoying because at the moment it takes me ages to connect to the internet Stephen. |

HELP!
hi Chris,
I dunno how I succeeded in sending here this post... I've been having connection problems since yesterday! Here is the error message I have on my Ibook: phpBB : Critical Error Error updating sessions table I only have the main page, but it is stuck! no updating on it! I am sending this post from my old pc (that I didn't use for ages!), and I have the same message, from time to time, but I've been able to get rid of it by going back and click again, what I cannot do on my Ibook! Can you help me Chris? This thing is driving me NUTS! Patricia ... fighting against software... |

Not sure what your problem is here I'mk afraid Patricia... if you're getting a phpBB error then the implication to me is that it's at the MLUKFC servers end and not on your PC, but I'm not 100% certain on that. No one else seems to be claiming problems from what I can see. All I can suggest is to clear your cache and history and have another go. Andy |

So, I have to "clear my cache and history". I deleted the cookies and history already but the "cache" I don't know what it is. Can you explain it to a simple of mind? Patricia ... who first whistles but if it doesn't work, begs on her knees |

Lost Soul,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. So far as I know, phpBB errors are at the server end. You need to get in touch with our beloved leader, R., and ask him about it. Sorry I cna't be more help. |

This is probably because that error message page is still stored somewhere in you disk cache.
Try this: Click on the community link and make it open in a new window. On Windows systems you usually use a right click and select "Open in new window" from the context menu. Could be the same on Mac OS. If you see that error message again, try to click the "Reload/Refresh" symbol of your browser. Try to click it while pressing the "ALT", "CTRL" or "SHIFT" key. I don't know the exact combination, but usually a click on Refresh while holding down one of these special keys forces your browser reload the current page and ignore/bypass your temporary internet storage (cache). |
